About the Author Lawrence, (Larry) Mackin is a police officer and former probation officer with 30 years of law enforcement experience. Larry was born and raised in South Boston, Ma and is part of a large family, many of whom have served in the U.S. Military and as police officers. A life member of the NRA and political conservative, Larry has campaigned as an independent candidate for the Office of U.S. Representative and Sheriff. Larry was the founder and President of Citizens against Reverse Discrimination, an organization that filed a Federal Reverse Discrimination lawsuit challenging the use of racial quotas in the City of Boston's Police and Fire Departments. The lawsuit went through the Federal Court system up to the United States Supreme Court. In addition to many newspaper and magazine interviews, Larry has appeared on numerous national television shows such as, 48 hours, World Monitor, Phil Donahue, Oprah Winfrey, Sally Jesse Raphael, among others. Larry is married to his wife Jeanne of 28 years. They have three children.

Once I started it I could not put it down. Mr. Mackin factually relates the role that women have played in our country's history. In the book women also play a critical role with the Son's and Daughter's of Liberty in their fight to not only restore freedom in America, but to prevent a muslim revolution lead by Obama himself. The book is eerily true and very believable. Hopefully all of our police and military personnel are reading this book. As a matter of fact, every American should read this book,

The editing and proofreading, however, was the worst I've ever seen in a publicly published book. Punctuation was often wrong and inappropriate words that sound alike often used. It was so bad, that it interfered with the overall enjoyment of the book.

It was like Perry Mason meets Alex Cross.The Texas insanity defense really is a strange thing and this book brought many of the legal issues while staying true to the fictional story line. I recommend this book and can't wait to see what this author has planned for this series.

About the Author Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is the creator of Tarzan, one of the most popular fictional characters of all time, and John Carter, hero of the Barsoom science fiction series. Burroughs was a prolific author, writing almost 70 books before his death in 1950, and was one of the first authors to popularize a character across multiple media, as he did with Tarzan s appearance in comic strips, movies, and merchandise. Edgar Rice Burroughs s popularity continues to be memorialized through the community of Tarzana, California, which is named after the ranch he owned in the area, and through the Burrough crater on Mars, which was named in his honour.

BERGER At the Earth's Core is one of the great stories of all time that will get your young son excited about reading. You will have to read it to a youngster because the vocabulary is advanced (which is great for them to learn), and the story is so fast paced and exicting, they follow it without any problem and never want the story to stop. Best of all it teaches a young boy all of the manly values in the context of an adventure that anyone and everyone will love. And when they want more you can introduce the subsequent stories, all of which are just a good as this one. And then go on to the Tarzan or John Carter of Mars series for more great writing and wonderful adventures. Burroughs is one of the greatest writers who ever lived. Try it out.

A Journey Into A World Without Time and Where Reptiles Are the Dominant Species By Dave Wilde “At The Earth’s Core,” first published in 1914, is one of Edgar Rice Burrough’s most imaginative works. It is the first of seven books in the Pellucidar series and imagines a world inside the earth (five hundred miles beneath the surface) where the most advanced species is reptilian and the humans are still living in the stone age. As ludicrous as it sounds now, during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, there were many who believed in the possibility of a hollow earth world with entrances at the poles. Scientists proposed the idea of an inner world to explain anomalous compass readings and such things as the aurora borealis. Such inner worlds were theorized to have atmospheres and be possibly inhabited.Although Burroughs was not the first to contemplate such an inner world, there are none who have perhaps created it so magnificently. In “At the Earth’s Core,” David Innes and Perry Abner travel in a mighty metal prospector into the earth’s crust and break through into a world they never imagined with an eternal noon-day sun hanging in the heavens. Alongside the dinosaurs and cave people, one of the most interesting ideas explored by Burroughs in these books is the idea that time is man’s creation and, without the sun rising and setting, one loses track of time. Thus, one could go off and have incredible adventures and think weeks or even months have gone by while another who sits reading a book could think not much time has elapsed. It is an incredible idea because, without our guideposts of the sunrise and sunset and without clocks and technology, how do we really know how much time has gone by.On the surface, some might compare the world of Pellucidar to Burroughs’ worlds of Barsoom and Venus (although he wrote the Venus series decades later). After all, Innes, like John Carter, is nearly alone (except for Perry) in a savage world where he first offends, then romances a savage princess. And, like Carter, who overthrows the existing order in “The Gods of Mars,” Innes takes on the dreaded Mahars. However, here, the concepts are quite different. The reptiles are the smarter, more advanced species and they are not a human-like reptile species. Moreover, this is a more dangerous, savage world, peopled by primitive tribes and filled with dinosaurs and all manner of strange beasts that have developed quite differently from the evolution of the outer world.Burroughs’ writing in this novel is absolutely terrific and his descriptions of the prospector and the journey into the center of the earth, absolutely fascinating. This was written over one hundred years ago and is still one of the greatest adventure stories ever written. Five stars!

Even though 'hollow earth' stories and theories have fallen out of vogue after geological discoveries over the ages, it's sometimes fun to go back and revisit stories such as this. Not nearly as detailed or geared towards true geology as Jules Verne's JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, AT THE EARTH'S CORE is an absurd (and enthralling) 'inner world' search-and-conquer novel by old pulp-adventure-pro Edgar Rice Burroughs.I wish that this Kindle edition had included the original black-and-white illustrations of an earlier (much much earlier) edition from decades past, but it does have a cover illustration taken from those original images.

It's like she can look into my brain and find all of the things I'm obsessed with, write a (long, amazing) book about them, AND promise me a sequel in 6-8 months. I've read and loved all five of her currently-published novels, but Outer Bounds has got to be the best so far. Here's why:1.) The characters oh em gee the characters. All of them! Anna the seven-year-old sociopath and her "pet" robot, Magali the Killer, Runaway Joel, Milar and Tatiana...I could sit here all day debating with myself and not come up with a particular "favorite" character. This cast is a complex and diverse bunch with divided loyalties and priorities, and yet the relationships that they build over the course of the story and the gradually-revealed ties that bind them all together weave the story as a whole into a truly epic tapestry.2.) The science part of this fiction is amazing. The world of Fortune is a bit like Herbert's Dune - a rather unpleasant place to be most of the time, cruelly mined for its sort of gross natural reserves, mixed with a bit of Firefly's space-western aesthetic. Populating this world are Nephyrs (augmented human soldiers who have had their skin and most of their humanity stripped away), operators and soldiers (humans who are literally wired into practically invincible battle-mechs), and "Yolk babies" like Anna, who are hyperintelligent if not particularly socially adept, kind of like the kids in the Enderverse.3.) Sara King's writing continues to amaze me. The part where Tatiana is wired into her soldier had me cringing, one scene with Anna was definitely High Octane Nightmare Fuel, and there was one particular part toward the end that had me sniffling for the rest of the book. The aerial dogfights are brilliantly described and left me wishing that SOMEBODY would turn this series into a movie or TV show. When you read this, you'll feel like you're there on Fortune watching the bloody birth of a full-scale revolution.Overall, I'd have to say this is one of my favorite reads of the year and I'm (as usual) dying to see where Sara King will take us next!

Anyway, last night I bought it, (despite what I view as an exorbitant price for a Kindle book) I read it, and now, I am a believer. Just like the Princess Bride, this book has everything. Adventure. Romance. Cyborgs. A midget psychopath, lol. It was funny, it was creepy, it was sad, it was awesome! This author totally impressed me by pulling a bunch of completely unexpected twists -- and I've read a lot of books, really impressed by the unexpected now. I also typically hate POV changes, but I actually buckled down and read them this time, and each one made me want to continue reading THAT ONE... I loved ALL the characters. Even the ones that came in half-way through the story had me at hello. I can't wait for book two, so if you're listening to me, Sara, publish it already! :-) Highly recommend! Now I'm gonna go read it again to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Fortune's Rising had me at the edge of my seat and unable to put it down. I stayed awake until 4am to finish it...something which no book has made me giddy enough to do in many years. I was left in shock more than once when I thought "she wouldn't go there, she wouldn't... she went there!" But it turns out the events were totally integral to the book and perfectly executed. I wish I could give it 6 stars.Sara King makes a big deal about being a character writer. It's important to her, and that makes a big difference in her books. Each character feels so real like they actually exist in this world that Sara placed them. Another reviewer compared the "Yolk babies" in this book to the kids in the Enderverse and I think that is spot on. Not copied from OSC - but as rich and varied and unique as the Ender characters in a very GOOD way. Each character has their own uberhuman skill or character trait that they must learn to use to their advantage. At the same time those traits create a void at the opposite end of the spectrum that they must learn to overcome.The way the characters lives intertwine and the way that comes to light is simply brilliant, and leaves you with the feeling that there is so much more to discover. The dystopian world she creates is absolutely fascinating. As the book progresses, you can feel the tensions rising at the brink of a revolution that I'm sure will be equally gripping in the next installment of her Outer Bounds series.

This book is at times sweet, sarcastic, and utterly ridiculous. I'm sure I will be referring back to it on rainy days. Very cute overall.

A "Super Cute Flippity Flappity Rampage" of funny By Nancy Davis Kho I received an advanced copy of this book, which is why I have a few months on the rest of you with a new favorite party trick: hand the book to a guest and have them try to pick their favorite. First of all, it's impossible, because every one of Mary Laura Philpott's irreverent Penguins with People Problems is funny. But seeing what people gravitate to is like a Rorschach test. My 80-something mom was a fan of the "bit of a work-friend whore" bit, while my dad liked Marsha and her four maragaritas writing her memoir. Mine? Milo and his secret obsession with owning a dance floor a la Billie Jean.The point is, there's no point to this book, besides making you laugh, reread, laugh, reread. I'm stocking up to give anyone I know who needs cheering up.

I follow the Tumblr Penguins with People Problems and thought this would be a nice little gift. I know she sat one night laughing at it, has taken it to work to share with a couple ladies there and has shared it with a couple of her girlfriends. For a good laugh this book will deliver.

From the Author Merry Christmas Cookies2 16-1/2 oz. tubes refrigerated sugar cookie dough, softened1 c. dried cherries, chopped1 c. pistachios, chopped2 11-oz. pkgs. white chocolate chips Combine cookie dough, cherries and pistachios in a large bowl; mix well. Shape into 2 logs; chill for one hour. Slice cookies 1/4-inch thick; arrange on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes, until golden. Cool completely. Melt chocolate in a double boiler over medium-low heat; stir until smooth. Dip cookies in melted chocolate and place on wax paper; let stand until set. Makes about 5 dozen.

On an almost daily basis, Andy Goldsworthy makes art using the materials and conditions he encounters wherever he is, be it the land around his Scottish home, the mountain regions of France or Spain, or the sidewalks of New York City, Glasgow, or Rio de Janeiro. Out of earth, rocks, leaves, ice, snow, rain, sunlight, and shadow he creates works that exist briefly before they are altered and erased by natural processes. They are documented in his photographs, and their larger meanings are bound up with the forces that they embody: materiality, temporality, growth, vitality, permanence, decay, chance, labor, and memory.  Ephemeral Works features approximately 200 of these works, selected by Goldsworthy from thousands he has made between 2001 and the present and arranged in chronological sequence, capturing his creative process as it interacts with material, place, and the passage of time and seasons.
