The characters take on a greater depth which makes the whole series come to life more. The violence in the many parts of Africa that were considered stable is breathtaking. The impact it has on the precious assets of these countries is devastating. I read today of the poisoning of 11 elephants in Zimbabwe - just as discussed in Elephant Murders - and it brings home the reality of what appears in this trilogy. These books tell the story in an effort to bring change - I wish I could be more hopeful about human nature and believe that the elegant, wonderful elephant can be saved.

By Scott Lucas Hmm, I'm not sure what can be said about a Dilbert page-per-day calendar that isn't already painfully obvious . . . but I love it nonetheless. My ONLY complaint is that it used to be 7 per week and in the past few years it is now 6 (Sat./Sun. are on one page). It makes sense if you have it in an office, but I miss the extra 52 comics. :)If you aren't some alien-type person who doesn't find Dilbert funny, you'll get a quick laugh every day with this. Since laughter is the best medicine (well, as long as you don't have diarrhea), this potentially can make you more healthy and less stressed!!!

This Dilbert calendar gets me through the work week, and I can't imagine not having one at the office to keep me grounded. I was captivated from the first page and found myself reading incredibly fast in order to find out what would happen next. I loved that the book was set in Africa in the past. It is a world I know nothing about so it was exciting to learn something new. I loved the steaminess and action in this book. You could feel the author’s passion for Africa as you read the book. O’jay weaves a very believable tale of old Africa but with a modern view on it. This was a fantastic book with a very well developed plot and cast of characters. It was an honour to be able to read such an incredible book. 5 stars

The cover had me thinking I was stepping way out of my normal but once I got start, holy crap did I fall in love with this book! The authors talent is very well displayed behind the cover. The characters are very likable! The plot of this book is amazing and will have you turning pages just to try and figure it all out! This author was new to me and I am very please that I had the honor to read for him. Of course I don't cheat the authors and do spoilers, but I promise that if you pick yourself up a copy of this book you will be amazed!*Received for an honest review*

By Claude Bouchard, The Vigilante Series Well past 3D, Romyn's imagination can best be described as multi-dimensional. When I read the two volumes of his Prometheus series, I was impressed not only with the research which had gone into his work but also with the ease he melded reality with myth, successfully creating a believable storyline for all willing to open their minds.So now Romyn decides to widen the scope and takes on perhaps the greatest myth of all... God, Christ, the Bible, a few popular angels, one of them fallen, and throws them all together into a fast-paced thriller taking place all over the world... And beyond? Oh yeah... By Joanne Chase Luke Romyn is not your run-of-the-mill Indy author, his books have a literary quality that I find rare among the kindle books available today. His writing goes beyond the quick-grab easy book, and into a realm that is well thought out and incredibly well written.In Corpus Christi, he draws the reader in slowly, moves the prose along well, and brings it to a crescendo of amazing proportions. This book is a gem that deserves attention. Good work!

By GreenRaven As I am reading Corpus Christi I was wondering if Luke released it at this time to cover Easter weekend. No wait, it's been out for a bit. Should I wonder about why I am reading it now? The protagonist in this work has even more reason to wonder about the things he encounters and that is where Luke grabs us and will not let us go.This book is what Luke does best. Challenging our perceptions of religion and mythology while giving us engaging characters. These are characters with a compelling back story. The ones we hold close. We feel their pain, glow at their accomplishments and support them at every step.Luke's descriptive passages come with a cadence of their own. My heart beats with the rhythm and my breathing quickens with anticipation of the outcome.I curse Luke on a daily basis as I am so engrossed I almost miss my train or tram stop, or I know I need to let go and go to sleep. The story will not wait.

Sally and Ian work well together to solve the mystery of the missing ship in this book. Sally is a thoroughly enjoyable protagonist to follow in the series. I highly recommend this and each of the books in the Through the Fold series.

By Jeanne D This is the first book I've read by this author, and I have not read any of the other books in the Beyond Fairytales series, but this cover and the description drew me in... and the story itself did not leave me wanting. Gemini has a very well-crafted world--the specifics of this fantastic world unfold seamlessly for the reader. I love that feeling of settling into a world where everything FITS. When I don't have to work to follow the various life forms and ships and planets, when the author is just in it and the story feels as real as modern day real life, I get sucked in and that's a happy feeling. The main characters and the supporting cast are well developed, down to the smallest detail, including the delightful balance of the nyx and fahir species and their roles in the story (don't want to give too much away!) It's hard to discuss the specifics of plot and character without talking about what the story works and what the author does well, but generally the story is action packed. The plot and world are complex yet I had no trouble keeping up, even when I had to (didn't want to, had to!) put the book down between readings and come back. There was no suspension of disbelief required here--I was with the book from page one and never lost focus or interest. There were some really tender surprises, too (I love when the bad guys aren't just one dimensional bad guys...) A believable romance, complex characters, and a compelling and yet very real world that keep me glued to the pages. This book is exactly what sci-fi romance should be, and I will be looking for more from this author! Highly recommend!

It gave me everything I loved: complex characters, a fantastical world, alien species, space chases, bad guys, bigger bad guys, prison escapes, gun fights, and romance.Whoo! Reading that list I realized, it's a lot. Catherine Peace doesn't let readers down. This book qualifies as action adventure romance and weaves a complex, but easy to follow story line. Pacing and plot are perfect and fit the sci-fi genre beautifully. The romance, while intricate to the story, doesn't overpower the action and secondary plot lines. I'm looking forward to the next book, as the author mentions she has story lines for 3 more in the series. Also, if you ever wondered what cats would be like if they evolved, Peace gave a wonderful creation.If you love sci-fi, Firefly, and adventures in space this book is definitely up your alley.

It was a little confusing in parts but once I figured it out everything fell into place. The ending left me confused and I really hope for another one to finish up. Over all the fantasy Sci if was interesting. I was given this in exchange for an honest review. I would read more of her books.

Despite this disclaimer, Agent Brooks: The Making of a Superhero is—in my opinion—loosely based on the author’s life. I should know. I grew up with him!The story begins with agent Ted Brooks on a mission in Afghanistan, but quickly flashes back to Ted’s formative years. Ted is a shy child, the results of older, over-protective parents. Fortunately, he grows-up in a neighborhood filled with many colorful personalities and opportunities for adventure and mischief, which help him to overcome some of his social anxieties. Ted is a relatively bright student and pursues advance degrees in the life sciences and attains a PhD in biochemistry. During his dissertation research he invents a novel mind- and body-enhancing drug and contrary to ethical principles, begins taking this experimental drug. The drug not only enhances his cognitive abilities, but also his physical attributes including strength, endurance, and agility. Ted is truly transformed. How does Ted use his newfound attributes? What happens to Ted at the furtive Bionics? What is he doing in Afghanistan? You will need to read the book to find out.The author presents a quick-paced and entertaining narrative, based equally on fact—the author worked in the pharmaceutical industry—and fiction. As one of the author’s childhood friends (Jim in the book?), I look forward to reading the next installment of agent Brooks, superhero.

By Dogmother Agent Brooks was an exciting thriller with a lot of action, character development, knowledge of the sciences, enough sex to keep your imagination going and a great hero (who is more human than Superman), but definitely becomes the one to save the day. I call it a thriller, because even before its midpoint I was so intrigued, it was difficult to put the book down, wanting to find out where our hero was going to wind up! For one who generally chooses non-fiction books, it was an easy and fun read. Except for the title, I had no idea how Agent Brooks would evolve and how it would end, until the end. Thanks RJ.

Allen Jr. OK, let's be plain-spoken as Heinlein would've preferred.The transfer is fine, as far as that goes. The problem is, it is "volume one". which was very much obscured on the page I bought it from.I thought it was the whole Expanded Universe _book_. And this _volume one_ includes most of his political stuff, not his stories. Look... maybe I agree with Heinlein in his political view and maybe I don't. In fact, it's some of both. But here is an example of _someone_ doing what Heinlein would have, probably, hated. Taking gross advantage of the reader. I never knew Mr. Heinlein. Except two fan letters, which he very generously responded to, I have no connection. Somebody out there is milking the cow, on this. If you advertise that this is the book "Expanded Universe", it needs to be that. This isn't. It's a very much abbreviated version, that doesn't include... well, everything that we Heinlein fans expect from an eBook of his named "Expanded Universe". We know what the original contained. And to be honest... maybe painfully so, to his family or whoever is rsponsible for this travesty... we never read Heinlein to get his political views. We read him to be entertained and educated on other topics. It doesn't make any difference if I, or anyone, personally, agree or disagree with his political views.This was sold as his stories. And it basically isn't. It's a lie perpetrated by whoever has control of this original work. To milk as much money as they can from the legacy. Expanded Universe should be an eBook, unto itself, and absolutely not broken down into parts. It was a REAL book unto itself, that Heinlein himself authorized. Breaking it down into "parts", or "volumes" is just milking the cow for more money. I don't think I've never given Heinlein a bad review, and I haven't still. I'm giving whoever the selfish cash-centic person who decided to release Expanded Universe this way a bad review.

Much of it is repetitive, and I'm afraid it displays more of Heinlein's weaknesses than his strengths as an author. His characters are thin. They tend to sound like (and be) mere mouthpieces for the author's views. They're closer to ideological tracts in the guise of short stories. It's somewhat interesting to look back at this period in science fiction and to read what Heinlein thought of his own work. The stories themselves, I'm afraid, aren't all that satisfying.

Heinlein is a master, of course... but this book delves more into the master's thoughts about World War 3 and Armageddon and how to survive - and could be a bit dry at times... Heinlein was way ahead of his time relative to knowledge of the dangers of Atomic warfare... his ideas on how to deal with the upcoming war seem a bit dated now but we still live in a nuclear armed world and we are not safe yet, so who knows? The brief introductions, updates and thoughts from the master regarded each story were wonderful. They gave some insight to his current thinking without changing the original story.

Flynn I started reading Zane Grey's novels about 15 years ago, when a great-uncle told me of the times, as a youth in the 1920s, he had read Grey's novels on cold nights in front of a fire. It must be close to a decade ago when I first read this title, and I can't help but re-read it every few years. It infuses me with wonder and awe every time.I knew enough about Grey's novels, by the time I read this one, to know that Riders of the Purple Sage was considered his best. But when I got to the end of The U P Trail, I said to myself, "This is the greatest book I have ever read." This novel, which is focused upon the construction of the Union-Pacific Railroad, has something incredibly passionate and elemental about it that not only elevates it above Grey's other numerous titles, including Riders, but makes it a giant in its genre. Grey himself says in his dedication that "it is the book for which I have written all the others."The book's scope is akin to a giant mirror being held up to reflect, in one grand and allegorical image, the breadth of the human experience in the building of the American West, and the destruction of its frontier culture. It's a tale of heroism, virtue, sacrifice, greed, personal ruin, redemption, betrayal, saintliness, violence, bigotry, lust, depravity, nobility, and so many other aspects of human nature it's hard to list them all here. It is filled with unforgettable characters who represent every social group involved with both the building of the railroad itself, and the white man's ambition to expand the nation to the Pacific coast. Some of the incidents and moments created by Grey will remain with readers long after they have finished the book, if not forever. And central to it all is the tortured story of the lovers Neale and Allie.As to drawbacks: modern readers may struggle, in places, with the novel's tone and language. The dialogue of its characters sometimes contains the vernacular and political perspective of the era in which the book was written, and held up to modern standards it could occasionally be labeled politically incorrect. Readers may also have trouble accepting the extra-innocent, almost saintly Allie, and the numerous occasions in which her virtue is preserved against all odds.Generally, though, I believe that the power and beauty of the book will be the primary impression left with those who read it. It should not be missed by anyone who is a Zane Grey fan OR a fan of historical fiction pertaining to the American West. It's a great view of the legacy in which all Americans live today.

12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. The single greatest western epic ever written. By OAKSHAMAN Without doubt, this is the single greatest western novel that I have ever read. It was a gift given to me as a boy, and I have reread it periodically ever since. This is a magnificant epic of a novel in a single volume. The collossal enterprise of building the first transcontinental railroad from start to finish connects everything, but is really about Neale's love for Allie Lee- and everything he and their friends go through to rescue her. I know that sounds more like a romance novel than it does a western, but, trust me, this is THE western. You actually care about the many skillfully drawn characters- and it hits you hard when they die in heroic sacrifice. I know that some readers will see the characters as western charactatures and stereotypes, but that is only because Hollywood later overused them- the book came first. By the way, Larry Red King's rescue of Allie Lee from Belle's "Dance Hall" is still the greatest single scene in any western novel, or film, as far as I am concerned. Oh yeah, not all the language is "politically correct" these days. That's because the men who built this nation weren't politically correct- empire builders never are. One more thing, the hero of this novel is an engineer, a civil engineer, and a great role model. At least to me, he was.

The Union Pacific Story By Charles Wheeler What can one say about the greatest undertaking ever devised by man--the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the 1860's--and its exposition in story form by the greatest writer of the American West, Zane Grey. Historically accurate from beginning to end, descriptively unmatched by any other writer, and filled with characters enough to fill a mini-series. Of course, there is love found and love lost and then found again; it wouldn't be Zane Grey without that! But beyond the romance, the reader will find the heroism, the strength, the men and women with the kind of fortitude and vision that it took to make this country what it is today. And yes, there is a tragic side to the book. The passing of a life-style; the passing of a people--the Indian; for the progress of the railroad with its technology and its ability to bring huge numbers of people into the country meant the destruction of the Indian. I would recommend this book whole-heartedly for anyone--historian, or pleasure reader. And these Walter J. Black editions will last a life time. Also available in hardback is the unexpurgated version, Union Pacific, by Five Star Western which came out in 2009 telling the story the way Zane Grey "really" wrote it.

Katya falls in love with Alex, the Czech in charge of the Nuclear Physics staff for the UN and the Maintenance Crew for the company. Alex has an affair with Iliss, a woman PhD on his Nuclear Physics Staff. Iliss is a married woman going on the voyage with her husband, Jack, the head of the Astronomy staff for the voyage. And Jack is having an affair with Miko, Alex’s ex-mistress and Katya’s best friend. Miko is the head of Medical Research for the voyage. Later, Katya falls in love with Iliss. Falling in love twice complicates Katya's life and job. How do you hide affairs from 320 people on a spacecraft the size of a city block?

About the Author Dear Reader, I've been writing stories and poems for sixty years. I have a closet full of rejections. This year I began to e-publish. I wrote Summer in 1998, but I published it first because it is dedicated to my wife, Carolyn, the love of my life. It is about pain and suffering and the difficult choices people face, and how love can overcome anything. I have four other novels available for adult readers: Foundling, Clarence or Claire?, Katya and the Solar Wind, My Shotgun Wedding, and two sequels for Katya on the way. When the Dew Fell on the Okra is my first children’s book to be published. It was written in December 1966. When I graduated from Otterbein College in January 1967, I gave it to people who had been a help to me. Thanks to Rebecca Swift, my illustrator, it is now available for you to give to someone you care about. First Eighty-five Poems is my first volume of poetry. All of the poems were written between January 1, 1959 and August 1, 1963. They were written when I was in junior high and in high school. If you are a struggling Christian and have difficulties sorting out your priorities, I had the same kind of problems in my youth. I hope you find my poems meaningful to you. And I suggest that you write your own poetry. Rappers aren’t the only people who can express themselves. Everyone can. As a pastor and theologian, I do not separate the sacred and the profane. The difference is in the human mind and not in life itself, just as evil is in the human mind and comes out of the choices people make and not from the devil who made me do it. The devil has nothing to do with it. We are the ones who choose to do evil or good. The whole world is in our hands. Enjoy the books. By Mideel First I want to say I love this musical and the music it contains is some of my favorites off Broadway in recent years. That said the three stars are for this product not the musical.I had planned to use the beginning of the song "Omelette" in an audition but the problem is that the song is incomplete in this book. It is lacking the beginning of the song before the tempo/key change. Example Portion of Missing Part: "The fruit of life can't always taste like sweet persimmonsSometimes it's hard to swallow I'm afraid"...etc) Unfortunately this was key to my plans and considering the lack of music I am unable to use it and must change course. If I had known I would not have ordered. I will have to review the rest of the songs contained in the future to see if they are complete or not.So if you want portions of the songs and not necessarily the whole things then by all means get this. Otherwise temper your expectations and prepare to adapt. Still great music even if partial.

This book has all the selections and much of the internal dialogue and music within the numbers is also included. I'm very pleased. A great companion to the cast album.
