I have read a lot of books and I always wonder how an author creates a book and what he/she must have to know in order to write a book. Learning all of these for me is really shocking, exciting and amazing. This is exceptionally a good starting key for those who would like to try and give it a shot to become a writer or an author. From the basic steps to brainstorming, questions and promotions. A good read indeed and I might try to write a book one of this days and apply all the things that I have learned from this Charles Jensen book.

There were several good points made that I have not come across in the multitude of other books I have read on writing. Short and to the point. It certainly makes writing a book in 24 hours actually feel do-able. It does not go into much detail, which is why I didn't give it a 5 star rating. Perhaps a better title would be "Write a Book like this one in 24 Hours." Which does not make it bad. It turned out to be precisely what I wanted.

By amazon customer This book discusses a very interesting topic, writing a book in 24 hours, breaking the notion that writing a book eats up a lot of time. It also points relevant and important points to look at when writing and publishing your book. I find this book really helpful.

A Demon in the Desert (Grimluk, Demon Hunter Book 1), by Ashe Armstrong

From the Author I wrote this because I love weird westerns and I wanted to orcs get treated like more than just cannon fodder. Out came a demon-hunting gunslinger named Grimluk. I hope that despite any debut roughness that you'll find the story entertaining and want to see more. Grimluk's just getting started.

From the Back Cover The Wastelands mining town of Greenreach Bluffs is deteriorating: with each passing day its inhabitants grow more fearful and paranoid, plagued by...something. They suffer nightmares and hallucinations, there are murders at the mine; the community is on the brink of madness and ruin and, as events escalate, realization dawns: the town has a demon problem. Two attempts at hunting it down fail, Greenreach Bluffs is at breaking point...and then Grimluk the Orc strides in out of the Wastes to answer their call for salvation.

About the Author Ashe grew up watching and reading about adventures and having horrible nightmares. He spent most of his young life wanting to know more about what scared him but also doing so from between fingers and from under the covers. Eventually, the realm of nightmares became home. Heroes and villains and the struggle of Good against Evil combined with Horror helped mold him into the weirdo lover-of-the-strange that he is.Some of his biggest inspirational sources would be Clint Eastwood westerns, the Lord of the Rings, The Elder Scrolls video game series, Hellboy, the Vampire Hunter D series, Deadlands, Stephen King (especially the Dark Tower), Robert E. Howard, and HP Lovecraft. Star Trek has also played a pivotal role in Ashe's life.Ashe currently lives in Auburn, AL with his partner.

I really, really did.The first few pages are a little rough, but they're the squeaky gate to a perfectly paced, unique, and overall well-constructed story that's entertaining as hell. It may have some minor flaws (occasional typo or misused word), but the bottom line is, I did not care. That's how good the story was.Bonus points:-Awesome female characters (always on my wishlist)-Seamless genre meld (not easy)-You will not see the dragon until it is on top of you.Do recommend, will be gifting to D&D nerd friends on their birthdays.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. refreshing twists By Courtney Cantrell Ashe Armstrong's first novel, A Demon in the Desert, has a lot in store for the reader of Weird Westerns. In casting the main character as an orc instead of a more traditional protagonist (human, elf, etc.), Armstrong promises a departure from same-old same-old fantasy, and he delivers on that promise. Elves, the zombie-like undead, dwarves, vampires -- magical creatures galore populate this Western. The climax offers a surprise appearance by a fantasy creature I did not expect, and Armstrong's twist on it made it not just a surprise but a delight.Grimluk, the orc protagonist, comes across as reserved and surly most of the time (pretty much what you'd expect from an orc!). But a softer side shows through, as well as hints of an interesting past. He's clever and inventive and confident, and his choices drive the story's fast action. There's a lot of room for exploring this character, and Armstrong's writing leaves no doubt that he will embark on that exploration with flair.I also very much enjoyed the strong, active roles many female characters play in Armstrong's tale. They're scrappy, courageous, and well able to determine their own course. Refreshing.Personally, I wanted more thorough editing throughout the novel -- but I also realize that many readers won't feel bothered at all. So, for its imaginative world, active characters, and interesting plot twists, A Demon in the Desert gets 4 stars from me.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Saturday afternoon read! By Samantha Full disclosure: I backed this project on kickstarter, and I don't regret it.Grimluk is a somewhat surly, somewhat sarcastic, somewhat vengeful- all what you'd expect from a demon-hunting orc. He's also got a softer side, but he's still delightfully unpolished. The supporting characters are a fun bunch, and you get a good feel for their different personalities and a bit of their backgrounds. I really enjoyed reading it, and the final battle had me with goosebumps and giggles (as an avid D&D player, I was picturing my group and I in the same situation and it was magnificent). That being said, it is a first novel, and there are some parts that were unpolished and needed a bit of work. There were a few slow bits, and while I like things being described in detail (better to help picturing it in my head), I can see why another review didn't enjoy it as much. Not a 5-star rating, but there is a LOT of potential for Grim's future adventures.

Tyler Ballard was in prison when his son created a dreamworld called Foreverland, a place so boundless and spellbinding that no one ever wanted to leave. Or did. Now his son is dead, his wife is comatose, and Tyler is still imprisoned.

But he planned it that way.

The final piece of his vision falls into place when Alessandra Diosa investigates the crimes of Foreverland. Tyler will use her to create a new dimension of reality beyond anything his son ever imagined; a Foreverland for the entire world.

Danny, living outside of Spain since escaping the very first Foreverland, begins receiving mysterious clues that lead him to Cyn. They are both Foreverland survivors, but they have more in common than survival. They become pieces of another grand plan, one designed to stop Tyler Ballard. No one knows who is sending the clues, but some suspect Reed, another Foreverland survivor. Reed, however, is dead.

Everyone will make one last trip back to Foreverland to find out who sent them. And why.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It will mess with your mind and leave you mindblown By Genie What I've loved from the very beginning of this series is the overall concept - it's so fascinating. The virtual reality which seems so much like the real world, and how it affects those involved in it is something that definitely reminds me of Inception (so if you loved that movie, you're sure to love this book). However, despite that similarity, Ashes of Foreverland, and the previous installments - all take that idea even deeper. There are multiple POV's, though all written in third person which allows for such poignant prose to shine."Is the physical world any more legitimate than Foreverland? Under what pretense is physicality the gold standard? That was the question he begged all of humankind to answer."This book asks the question - at what point does science take things too far? When is the reality of humanity more important? Where is that line and what happens if you were to cross it? There's a definite existentialist vibe coming through here, and it almost feels philosophical, if you want to take it that way. How Danny Boy, Alessandra and Cyn were impacted upon by the works of Tyler Ballard and his wife Patricia is multifaceted and endlessly intricate. When you're dealing with such topics as the mind and how perceptions of reality combined with that 'nothingness' which you could fall into is so captivating. I also really liked how this picked up on Tony Bertauski's other Halfskin series (and the fourth 'Foreverland' novel will combine these two series together fully.)"Time was the god that meted out each grain with methodic timing and refused to sell more. Time was a cruel god that promised eternity. But delivered only the past."There's also, as always, some fantastic mystery/thriller elements here to keep those pages turning. From hidden messages in endless parcels written with signature green ink, to characters who turn out not to be who you thought they were - it's all here and left me going WOW. One thing to remember with these novels is expect the unexpected and trust no one. That being said, there were a few surprises where some of the people who you perhaps thought were bad weren't after all."The ceiling swirled into the sky, the walls fell apart. There was no sensation of travel, no illusion of space. The needle's kiss."FINAL THOUGHTSThe characters in this books have their minds messed with, and just reading this will probably do the same to you (in the best possible way of course). If you're a sci-fi or Inception fan who and looking to be mindblown, then I'd definitely recommend this!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Ashes, Ashes, All Fall Down By DrPat If you haven't read the first two books in the trilogy, this review may contain SPOILERS."Annihilation" was about boys on a paradise-island shutting down the lure of Foreverland to avoid being severed from their bodies. "Dead" had girls escaping from their cold concentration camp to evade the same fate. Now in "Ashes of Foreverland," those who got out of their prisons are beginning to wonder if Foreverland is still waiting for them somewhere. A journalist, Allesandra, has started to investigate the crimes of the cabal that organised Foreverland, and part of her story is an interview with Tyler Ballard, in prison for life for his original Foreverland experiments, the ones that eventually killed his son and hospitalized his wife. What Alessandra discovers brings her entire world into question:* If Ballard is in prison, why does everyone around him—including his guards and the warden—do his bidding?* Why has his comatose wife Patricia been moved into the same building where there are ongoing Ballard-style dream experiments using animals?* What draws Alessandra so strongly to this building, to the dream-state lab?* Who are the Foreverland escapees, Danny and Cyn, and what are they to Alessandra?* Who is the mysterious doctor-director of the dream-state lab?As Ballard works to create a world-wide Foreverland, Alessandra fights to find a path through an increasingly confusing world that may not be as real as anyone—Ballard, Danny, Cyn, or Alessandra herself—thinks.Together, the three novels of this trilogy present a powerful statement about reality and the lure of dreams. The "Foreverland Boxed" set was my first encounter with Bertauski, and I will definitely be looking for more of his work.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. WE MUST GO DEEPER! BWAAAAAAAHHH By PSW Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.Sometimes, at the conclusion of a great story, you just sit back and say "damn".The three Foreverland stories are very different, but all revolve around the sinister paradise of Foreverland. "Ashes of Foreverland" takes the ideas and momentum of the first two stories and goes a bit mental, in a good way."Ashes" is very layered, weaving in and out of realities and in and out of story-lines. We see some familiar faces, and some new faces, and some faces that might be familiar or might not be. It also weaves in some elements of Tony's other books, which is quite interesting.Things I liked:• Lots of craziness - Everything was on edge all the time, didn't let up the whole book• Character Growth - Danny and Cyn really grow up during the course of this book. I think they learn a lot about themselves as they fight through the story.• Ending - The ending of "Foreverland is Dead" made me go "ahhhh what was that?!?". I had a similar reaction to the end of "Ashes", but in a very different way. Very fitting.Things I didn't like:• Too much stuff - I did feel like there were a lot of ideas shoved into this story, maybe a few too many.• The fate of some characters - No spoilers but I didn't really like the way some characters from earlier books were dealt with towards the end. But, I guess, it was fitting for the tone of the story.Final thoughts:If you liked the first two stories in this series, you will love this story. It is a fitting end (?) to the Foreverland Saga; it will confuse you for a while, it will make you second-guess where the characters are, and it will make you go "hmmm, oh....damn". I highly recommend "Ashes of Foreverland", and, of course, the preceding Foreverland stories.

Have you always wanted to learn how to speak the Emirati Arabic Dialect but simply didn’t have the time?

Well if so, then, look no further. You can hold in your hands one of the most advanced and revolutionary method that was ever designed for quickly becoming conversational in a language. In creating this time-saving program, master linguist Yatir Nitzany spent years examining the twenty-seven most common languages in the world and distilling from them the three hundred and fifty words that are most likely to be used in real conversations. These three hundred and fifty words were chosen in such a way that they were structurally interrelated and, when combined, form sentences. Through various other discoveries about how real conversations work—discoveries that are detailed further in this book—Nitzany created the necessary tools for linking these words together in a specific way so that you may become rapidly and almost effortlessly conversant—now.

If your desire is to learn complicated grammatical rules or to speak perfectly proper and precise Arabic, this book is not for you. However, if you need to actually hold a conversation while on a trip to Dubai or Abu Dhabi, to impress that certain someone, or to be able to speak with your grandfather or grandmother as soon as possible, then the Nitzany Method is what you have been looking for. This book is recommended for those who already have some prior knowledge of the pronunciation of Arabic accents (such as the Arabic accents: ayin, ghayn, ha, and khaf). For those of you who do not, this book does indeed provide some great, in-depth techniques on the pronunciation and recognition of these accents, that you will encounter throughout the program. These techniques have proven extremely beneficial for beginner students who were previously unfamiliar with these accent pronunciations. But keep in mind this isn’t a pronunciation book.

This method is designed for fluency in a foreign language, while communicating in the first person present tense. Nitzany believes that what’s most important is actually being able to understand and be understood by another human being right away. Therefore, unlike other courses, all words in this program are taught in English transliteration, without having to learn the complex alphabet. More formalized training in grammar rules, etc., can come later.

This is one of the several, in a series of instructional language guides, the Nitzany Method’s revolutionary approach is the only one in the world that uses its unique language technology to actually enable you to speak and understand native speakers in the shortest amount of time possible. No more depending on volumes of books of fundamental, beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels, all with hundreds of pages in order to learn a language. With Conversational Arabic Quick and Easy, all you need are fifty-three pages.

Learn the Arabic Dialect of the United Arab Emirates today, not tomorrow, and get started now!

Kayla Meadows’ life, with a wonderful husband and great career, couldn’t be more perfect. But when a routine flight into Dallas goes horribly wrong, her fate and the fate of the others she meets is left in jeopardy. Someone has set off an EMP device, shutting down the entire power grid, including communications and all motorized transportation. Chaos has ensued, and now Kayla must confront her deepest fears as she struggles to get home in an increasingly hostile environment. And it’s not only her fears that she must deal with, but the anxieties and doubts of those she suddenly finds herself responsible for. Written with unbounded intelligence and seen from a uniquely female perspective, this is a novel about pushing the boundaries of fear, adapting to life in an uncertain world, and finding faith in the face of raw ambition and power. Kayla has never truly been on her own before and now faces a nearly 200 mile trek on foot through what’s quickly becoming hostile territory. Joe and Monica, a couple thrust upon Kayla, don’t want to face up to the new reality. Mike, a teenager who was home alone when the event occurred, is looking for adventure. And Jim and his crew don’t want to rock the boat, even after they become aware of the sinister plot behind the catastrophe.

Unprepared (Volume 1), by N Sieffert PhD

About the Author Dr. Sieffert has always been an avid reader, enjoying many genres. This is evident in her writing as well, since she has published both fiction and non-fiction, and even children's books. Her fiction novels span the genres from suspense to science fiction to family saga. Her children's books were started because she wanted to ensure that her own grandchildren were introduced to Christianity in a clear and systematic way. And she wanted them to easily defend their faith, too! This leads to the subject of her doctorate, which is in Apologetics (making a defense). Sieffert feels strongly that all Christians should not only know what they believe, but be able to defend it. Her own faith grew by leaps and bounds during this time of study. She recommends it for all Christians. She and her husband of nearly 33 years have become increasingly aware of the issues in America, and have begun their own preparations to survive and be prepared to help others, should a catastrophe of some kind occur. It was this preparation which has led to her latest novel about survival in a hostile environment. She and her husband live on a very small but productive farm outside of Dallas, Texas, where they raise chickens, goats and pigs, and are teaching their children and grandchildren how to live more independently.

By Hershel Pryor I've read many books dealing with an EMP event, and find most are very "technical" and have characters that are already aware and prepared to some degree. This book deals with a main character who vaguely knows about survival, but is definitely not prepared to make it on her own. She must figure out how to push through the circumstances while handling adversity, personal fears and loss of people she meets on the long journey home. As she overcomes the challenges, she must accept that the old rules no longer apply. I like her growing faith in God, and acceptance of His guidance in her life. Most survival experts attest to the fact that the survivors are the ones who do not give up. This is an important lesson for all of us, including our children and grandchildren. I hope we never need to survive events like those described in the book, but being prepared, mentally and physically, is 90 percent of the battle. I will definitely buy copies of this book as gifts, and to share with friends. Whether you believe in God or not, you will find an amazing story and lesson in this book.

An event can laterally happen at any moment, by solar flare or other more nefarious means. We get to follow a character that is focused on life as usual, it's just that the "not so usual" ensues in a major way. Lost in the naivety of trust in your fellow man. Your main character Kayla survives tragic events and embarks on a dangerous and enlightening journey. Kayla learns and enlightens her followers by trial and error. Along the way she is challenged mentally, physically, and spiritually. Her goal is to get home to her husband, who she hopes has survived as well. This book will give woman a few things to think about that are unique to women. A definite must read for those that are unaware of what can happen in a world turned pside down.

By Toddee A great read and a much needed eye opener with all that is taking place in the world today. The story makes you think how you may react in a similar situation and how you may need to prepare for such an event. It also makes you think about those you interact with on a daily basis, and how dependent you've become of modern devices. The story was well thought out and if your like me you could see the story played out in your mind's eye while you read. Loved it and looking forward to book two!

The Son Of Tarzan, by Edgar Rice Burroughs

About the Author Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is the creator of Tarzan, one of the most popular fictional characters of all time, and John Carter, hero of the Barsoom science fiction series. Burroughs was a prolific author, writing almost 70 books before his death in 1950, and was one of the first authors to popularize a character across multiple media, as he did with Tarzan s appearance in comic strips, movies, and merchandise. Residing in Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941, Burroughs was drawn into the Second World War and became one of the oldest war correspondents at the time. Edgar Rice Burroughs s popularity continues to be memorialized through the community of Tarzana, California, which is named after the ranch he owned in the area, and through the Burrough crater on Mars, which was named in his honour.

The Son of Tarzan of the Apes becomes Korak the Killer By Lawrance Bernabo In the previous novel "The Beast of Tarzan," Jane and her infant son Jack were kidnapped by Tarzan's enemy Nikolas Rokoff and his henchman Alexis Paulvitch. Of course, Tarzan tracks down his wife and son and finally dispatches Rokoff. However, in this fourth Tarzan novel, "The Son of Tarzan," Edgar Rice Burroughs provides an adventure whose key point is: like father, like son. Paulvitch had survived the vengeance of Tarzan and now wants to even the score by luring young Jack Clayton away from London. However, his plan is foiled when Jack escapes with the help of Akut, the great ape. The pair flee to the same African jungle where Tarzan was raised a generation before. It there that young Jack Clayton establishes his own reputation as Korak the Killer. Not only does he find Korak find his own place in the jungle and amidst the great apes, he also rescues Meriem, a beautiful young woman, from a band of Arab raiders. Meriem turns out to be the daughter of Armand Jacot, a Foreign Legion Captain who is also the Prince de Cadrenet, and therefore a fitting mate for the son of Lord Greystoke. On the one hand, "The Son of Tarzan" is a ERB adventure yarn that closely parallels many of the key elements of the original "Tarzan of the Apes." In that sense this is a fairly predictable story (almost from the moment we hear about "My Dear" we know who she will turn out to be in the end), but given all the speculation about what the Tarzan novels were saying about human society and evolution, it is interesting to note that we have the same relationship between "The Son of Tarzan" and the original "Tarzan of the Apes" that you find between Jack London's "White Fang" and "The Call of the Wild." In each we have the creature of the wild become civilized and then reverse the process in the second. Of course, London's novels have received a lot more consideration along these lines in terms of Darwinism and the whole nature versus nuture debate (effectively canceling the question out by taking it both ways in his two novels), but it is interesting to see Burroughs do essentially the same thing with his own two novels.

Tricked by one of Tarzan's arch-enemies into running away from home, Tarzan's son Jack finds himself banished to the deep jungle with only Akut, the giant age as a companion. As time goes by, Jack learns to cope with the jungle and transforms into Korak, a jungle lord who converses with apes and rides Tantor the bull elephant. Korak rescues a little Arab girl with a hidden background, and the two young people become fast companions of the wild. The action is constant, the plot convoluted but typical of the Tarzan series with never a dull moment. My only objection is the ending of the book. All is, of course, resolved, but it is so quickly done one cannot help wondering if Burroughs was up against a deadline. Nevertheless, it is quick, good reading!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A sequel that is as good as the original By Michael S. Armstrong The Son of Tarzan deserves a strong 4 star rating. While the story shares a lot in common with much of Burroughs' early Tarzan material, isn't that why you like the Tarzan series? The Son of Tarzan also stands out among the early Tarzan series for its excellent characterization. The book's best feature is the relationship that evolves between Tarzan's son Korak and the kidnapped French girl, Meriem. It is much more satisfactory than the Tarzan and Jane relationship, which really fizzles after the first couple of Tarzan books. The reader sympathizes with Meriem from the onset of the story. Burroughs patiently develops her character throughout the book, creating an appealing feminine presence. The reader also sympathizes with Korak, who proves to be more than just a "Tarzan Jr." While the two share certain similarities, Korak is his own man whose ultimate fate hangs in the balance until the very end of the novel.Alongside these two strong leading characters, Burroughs works in a number of foes that add significant interest to the plot. The character of Baynes is the most interesting among these, and the reader will appreciate how Burroughs expands his role. The plot does not get overly complicated, nor is the reader buried under an avalanche of endless characters. By the end of the book, Burroughs is able to tie up all the loose ends that he has created. There is a certain amount of predictability, and Burroughs is unsuccessful in his attempt to cloak the identities of the "Big Bwana" and "My Dear." This does not greatly detract from the overall book, though. I found that the book's pace gained momentum as the story progressed, and found the conclusion to be very satisfactory. It is not a conclusion that merely baits the reader into buying the next edition, unlike the present "Lord of the Rings" movie saga, for instance. It stands on its own.The 1917 version that includes many outstanding illustrations by J. Allen St. John is the best way to go on this one. St. John's only lapses are his inability to capture Meriem in "civilized" garb, the illustration in which Tarzan looks like a skinny 90-year old man, and the bizarre, strangely proportioned Quasimodo-ish picture of Baynes fighting the black. Aside from these glaring exceptions, his work is top-notch.
