This is the story of a boy from a small Irish village who became an adventurer, a humanitarian and a doctor to the stars. Part travelogue, part thriller, part celebrity tell-all, you’ve never read anything quite like it. Patrick Treacy grew up in rural Northern Ireland during the Troubles. Determined to become a doctor, he raised the money for medical school by smuggling cars from Germany to Turkey. Working in a hospital in Dublin in 1987, a needle he had used to draw blood from a patient with HIV jabbed him in the leg. He took blood test after blood test, wondering whether he was going to die. Overwhelmed, he moved to New Zealand, away from everyone who knew what he was going through: his girlfriend, his friends and his colleagues. Thus he began a peripatetic existence, working as a doctor around the world. In Saddam Hussein’s Baghdad, Treacy was arrested and imprisoned, spending days wondering whether he was going to be hanged as a spy. In Australia, he worked for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. On returning to Dublin, Treacy set up the Ailesbury Clinic, where he worked on the cutting-edge of the new field of cosmetic dermatology, championing treatments including the use of Botox. This brought stars to his doorstep, including the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. Central to this memoir is Treacy’s personal journey: his efforts to escape the Troubles, cope with the fear that he might have contracted HIV (until he found out that he had not), get over his lost love and defend Michael Jackson’s legacy.

The book spans countries, continents, and interesting cultural events, all woven into the fabric of personal, intimate, and self-disclosing life experiences of this famous medical doctor-dermatologist.Dr. Treacy shares with his reader his major life challenges, disappointments, and victories – personal, professional, financial, social, medical, and spiritual. A native of Ireland, the good doctor spent periods of time in Haiti, various parts of Africa, Australia, and Britain. His education and humanitarian activities took him to far-away places, where his involvements set him apart from others who are also at the top of their professions. From having smuggled cars to Turkey to pay for his higher education to having suffered a life-changing scare in which he was accidentally injured by a needle infected with the HIV virus, Dr. Treacy's background is steeped in unique and exciting experiences....These unique experiences include the most recognized celebrity on the planet – Michael Jackson, “The King of Pop.” Beginning in late 2006, Dr. Treacy began treating Michael Jackson with cosmetic procedures in his Dublin clinic. By Justice I found myself not being able to put down this book .... as Dr Treacy took us through his extraordinary and extremely intetesting life.An excellent read!I will not tell much, as that spoils it for the rest. ... but will add that I am very pleased, that Michael Jackson found Dr Treacy as a friend near the end of his life! Michael certainly deserved to have a genuine caring and understanding friend .... in a world where friends were difficult to find or be trusted.Buy the book .... you will have no regrets!Congrats Dr Treacy!

The scenes from childhood, adolescence and early adulthood flow seamlessly, giving the reader an insight into decisions made later in life. And what a life! I suppose growing up in Northern Ireland, particularly during the times of 'The Troubles', gives a young man a certain preparedness for anything life might throw at him. From his earliest encounter with HIV; working in war-torn Iraq; becoming a prisoner of Sadam Hussein; a stint with the Flying Doctors and many other adventures, it becomes clear that Patrick Treacy is a versatile and talented individual. It comes as little surprise, therefore, that Michael Jackson would consider him his 'go-to' guy in Ireland. Patrick Treacy and Frances Kenny have produced a page turner that kept me entertained from beginning to end.
