22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. A WONDERFUL ENDING TO A SUPERB TRILOGY By s.ferber "Finished" comprises the third book in H. Rider Haggard's so-called Zulu trilogy, the first two novels being "Marie" and "Child of Storm." This is a magnificent set of books that deals with the downfall of the Zulu people, as personally witnessed by Allan Quatermain, the hero of 14 of Haggard's novels, including "King Solomon's Mines." "Finished" has all the elements that Haggard's fans have come to expect from him: a great and fast-moving story, scenes of big-game hunting, interesting and amusing characters, bloody and well-described battles, all with a dash of mysticism and some supernatural elements thrown into the mix. It is a real rouser. In the first half of this book, our hero Quatermain gets personally involved in the problems of a young couple in the bush veld in Africa, but the entire second half of the book details his stay with the Zulus, their war councils, and the great battles that the Zulus fought against the English in the late 1870s. The tone of the book is suitably elegiac, mourning the passing of a proud people and culture. This is a magnificent trilogy of books, and it is a real shame that they are all out of print. But I heartily recommend that you seek them out.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Finished By Bwhami The third novel by H. Ryder Haggard in Alan Quartermain's adventures during the Zulu wars. Through a series of Adventures Alan ends up at the Battle of Isandhlwana. This battle was considered to be the greatest military disaster that befell the British army. All three books take us through the historical events of the Zulu's wars. Read Marie first and then Child of Storm before reading Finished. I enjoyed all three books.

While the book has all the elements you come to expect from Haggard and Allan Quatermain, I thought the beginning was a little slow - thus only the 4 star rating. But regardless, if you are an Allan Quatermain fan, you will want to read this book.

Yes, it still pops up every now and then in some country songs or your latest folk hit, but overall, songwriters are moving away from telling fully fleshed-out stories through their songs. By Amazon Customer This book from Friedemann Findeisen is great for songwriters and mixers who want to reflect on their tracks and mixing, with the song of keeping the interest of the listener throughout the entire song. It has a substantial number of practical tips and ideas about how to hook listeners from start to finish and illustrates that with a huge amount of references to specific sections of well-known hit songs. I feel it gives the reader new ideas and food for thought on things to try in writing, recording and mixing pop songs. Besides going into detail on the tension curve of the overall musical arrangement of a song the book contains chapters about how the separate instruments (like drums, guitar, bass and vocals) can be used effectively in creating more tension and excitement in the music. It also has a chapter about the do and dont's of writing lyrics, which I thought was very good.

By Amazon Customer If you are interested in writing and composing songs - which you can stand behind - look no further. This is a book for songwriting in the 21st century. Things come together, there will be many 'aha!' lightbulb moments, whether 'so *that's* what I did right!' or 'so *that's* what I was doing wrong this whole time!' This is an instructional course, and Findeisen is an excellent guide. He regularly makes and uploads videos on songwriting, I'm in the middle of a 40 minute interview he does with a Scandinavian songwriter at the moment. The author was even kind enough to accept my friend request on social media, and my confidence in my own music is getting ever closer to where I want it to be. Get it, you won't be disappointed. -Tom L

By AZ Judy I'm very happy to add the mini mortar & pestle to my Outlander collection... They are good quality and a great choice as a symbol of the series.The "32 page book of quotes and images from the TV show" leaves a few things lacking... in fact getting a few of the quotes from the Starz TV show wrong. The images are well chosen and sure to be enjoyed by fans. I'm happy to have the 'wee book' but was disappointed in the lack of detail in the quotes when the Outlander TV show is so well done and true fans, like myself, should be fully aware of these inconsistencies.When there are 13 quotes "from the TV show" included... they should be correct. These were not:Pg. 7, JAMIE: "You're a kind woman. With a good touch. And your husband is a lucky man." ... There is no 'And' before "Your husband is a lucky man." (Episode: Castle Leoch)Pg. 10, DOUGAL: "I think it would be wise to take a healer along, especially one that does well under strain and there's a lot of that on the road." ... The quote is to "have a healer along", not "take". (Episode: The Gathering)Pg. 12 JAMIE: "I give you my obedience as kinsman and as Laird and hold myself bound to your worth so long as my feet rest on the lands of the clan MacKenzie." The quote is "hold myself bound to your word", not "worth". (Episode: The Gathering)Pg. 16 JAMIE: "There's no joy in falling a dead man." The quote is "There's no joy in flogging a dead man." 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Love the Mini Mortar & Pestle, but the quality control is lacking By Katherine I ordered two--one as a gift for my daughter and one for me. I opened mine and found that the book was defective so I opened the other and it was fine. Amazon replaced it shipped in a poorly packaged envelope so it arrived crushed and the mortar was chipped, but the book was perfect so I ended up with two good sets. It's an adorable reminder of the show on a shelf in my kitchen. The mini mortar and pestle should be functional for very small quantities, but I doubt I'll ever use mine since I have a standard size one I use for herbs.

By Jeraca *I received a free PDF version of this novel from the author for my honest review.*This is a dystopian novel of a world where there is a New Haven and an Old Haven.Echo is from the New Haven world. She is the Princess of Thediby, the one that will combine two families together with her marriage to Prince Noah, Prince of Delentia.Ayden is from Old Haven, a world that has been picked apart and left in ruins. Work is hard to come by, money is something everyone wishes they have, and just making it to tomorrow is a blessing.When Echo and Ayden meet, worlds collide. They can't stop thinking about each other. Even though their friendship is forbidden, they have to see each other or they feel as if a part of themselves is missing.But when Noah finds out and then Echo's father, the King, finds out, things go very wrong. Echo is forbidden to see Ayden again. She can't accept that fate, so she defies the rules and runs away.Only the King put out a reward for anyone to find both Echo and Ayden to bring them back to New Haven.Will Echo and Ayden be able to escape from her father's rules? Will they always be running for their freedom to be with each other? Or will the King win and separate the two...for good? Read "Burning Bridges" by Nadège Richards to find out!MY THOUGHTS/REFLECTIONSThis was an intriguing novel. I was automatically sucked into the story as the reader is reading a very intense scene that is on the brink of war, then was transported 5 weeks earlier to how the war started.The world that Richards created was amazing. Her writing was very easy to follow and before I knew it I had read 100 pages without a single pause in the story.There were a few grammatical and punctuation errors, a few times where the wrong names were used in areas, but for a first novel I thought those errors were minor to the great story she created.I did have a few problems with the characters. Yes, there was character development throughout the novel. Echo grew to learn the truth and to obtain what was right and what she wanted rather than what others wanted her to do.But I felt like she was clinging to Ayden too much. For a strong willed character who went after what she wanted, she kept acting like a girl losing her head over a boy that she couldn't bear to be away from.And Ayden, who's 5 years older than Echo, acted more like a teenager than a 22 year old when it came to Echo. Don't get me wrong, he was amazing for his family when his father was being absentee with his alcohol. He just seemed...like a lost puppy when it came to Echo...I think that if the characters were more about "doing" than thinking and wishing, I would have liked them better. They want to be together forever? Great! Do something about it. Go away from the place that will eventually trap them. Not stare longingly into one another's eyes and then be shocked when you get caught.However, even with my conflicted feelings about Echo and Ayden, I do think this was a great novel. And even better, we get to read more in Richard's second novel, "Deceiving Destiny", which comes out December 2012 - so just 5 more months.For anyone who likes dystopian novels or who likes a girl fighting for what she wants, I would recommend this novel to you. It was very well written and the reader was definitely snared into the story from the first page, making it a quick read and leaving the reader wanting more by the end of it.

This book starts out almost at the end of the story and then pops back to let you know the back story then comes back again. It's actually really good. You won't quit reading because you want to find out how the characters ended up where they did, and what happens to them. Princess Echo is to marry Prince Noah, problem is, she hates him. She doesn't want to get married, she doesn't want to be queen, she wants to explore and learn the warrior ways, she just wants to be normal. She feels out of place in her life and nobody will listen to her. When Echo meets Ayden, it doesn't go well at first, but they can't stop thinking about each other. Unfortunately, he is a peasant and a hunter while she is royalty and a warrior. They each have their own set of problems that they have to deal with. As they get closer and closer to each other it becomes more and more dangerous. Her mother is also keeping a secret that could be the death of her. Can these to overcome all the obstacles and be together, or will the king intervene and force Echo into a marriage she doesn't want? I really enjoyed this book and was surprised by that, because I don't care for historical books. I loved how well the story flowed and I fell in love with the characters.

By Book- Marks The Spot Tiffany's ReviewAll Echo has ever wanted was to be free and be able to make her own decisions. But with her being a princess it is impossible. The kingdom has been divided in to Hunters and Warriors, who if caught will have to fight to the death in the arena. Echo doesn't want to be a part of this life any more and her running away leads her to Ayden. Ayden is a Hunter and doesn't want anything to do with Echo. He thinks she is just a stuck up princess. When he gets to know her, she is nothing like he thought. Echo finds her self falling for the enemy and wouldn't have it any other way. What will Echo and Ayden do to be together and what will happen b/c of it.This book was very good. It had me entrapped until the very end. My only regret had to be stooping the boo and studying for finals LOL I love books that don't have the insta-love, but rather both of them getting to know each other. This book was like that. The Hunters and Warriors intrigued me as well. The Hunters when they get a certain age get tattoos of their origin...I think that's how it goes. I know it comes from the father and it is passed on. There wasn't really a lot about the Warriors and I hope to learn more about them. I loved the whole forbidden romance. No, it's nothing new with a princess falling in love with a peasant, but under the circumstance they were in it was great. The world building was great and I could see everything clearly and the characters well developed. I'm really in to this book and can't wait to read the rest of the series.Echo: I thought that she was a well enough character. I really didn't like her in the beginning. I just thought she complained a lot. I know I would be the same way so I can't judge. There was a certain part in the book where I was like grow up. She wants to be a warrior, but there she was crying day after day. By the end I think that she finally came to terms with everything and I think she will be a very strong character in the next book.Ayden: I like I was enamored with him from the beginning. All Echo had to do was describe his eyes and I was caught. LOL He also was surrounded in mystery. How did a Hunter come to work for a King? Where did he come from? I wanted to know everything about him in clothes and out.....Oops I should probably take that out. LOL ;)Overall, this book is about the start of a rebellion and finding out how much you would sacrifice for love.4 STARSIt has all the elements of a good story, but needs a little something to push it over the edge.

It just is what it is, however, the ebook code that comes with it won't work on the lexis nexis site if you order the manual from here... in spite of the fact that it's the same price, but I saved over $13 in shipping... and every little bit helps on my small office budget. Oh well. I prefer this printed version over an ebook anyway... still, would have been nice to have it on my computer as well.

By Eve Paludan I’m a big fan of priceless artifact switcheroo plots that keep me guessing until the very last pages. K.T. Tomb delivered that kind of a rollicking tale in this fast-paced, cross-genre mystery adventure thriller with just a bit of G-rated romance thrown in because, after all, it’s a honeymoon investigation!In THE HONEYMOONERS, Charlie and Ella hit the Cayman Islands for some fun and sun, but get an accidental case to investigate when it becomes clear that national treasures are being substituted with convincing fakes. This is the kind of realistic plotline that could have been ripped from the headlines. It’s a stunning truth that many countries are being looted of their antiquities by increasingly clever plots to enrich private collectors and steal history from the common people.So, with that in mind, right away, I found Charlie and Ella to be very empathetic characters with whom I identified. They have a social consciousness that doesn’t stop just because they are on their honeymoon. When their honeymoon turns into an investigation, they take that in stride and work together and also apart, to solve the case of the disappearing artifacts. I liked that they didn’t both have to be in every scene, but worked in concert doing separate tasks to bring the case to its stunning conclusion. They are each very autonomous characters with their own personalities. That was a relief and a pleasure to me that they weren’t constantly joined at the hip in every scene, yet gave a powerful team effort, as well as individual effort, to get the job done. The colorful ensemble cast of villains and locals were also well-drawn characters.This book DID have lots of twists and turns and as I read more of K.T. Tomb’s novels, I’m learning that just when you think the case is solved, oh no, it’s not. There’s always more, which I love, because I don’t want the book to end, and the plot fits together so well. The scenes are dovetailed with intricate plotting that’s seamless to readers. But, as they say, easy reading is hard writing and I can appreciate how difficult it must have been to write a mystery thriller this complex with all of the layered components of a great story. The clues, characters, and action kept me turning the pages and wondering what would come next. Fun, fun novel!Though THE HONEYMOONERS tells a well-written and complete story, I actually wish this weren’t a standalone book, but a series launch novel. My reasons? I enjoyed the natural rapport of Charlie and Ella Colton, great life partners who not only love each other, they LIKE each other. They are also intelligent, inquisitive, and sometimes funny. They have a perfect sense of timing and logical minds for solving mysteries from clues. That makes them a great couple to carry a successful mystery series. Hopefully, K.T. Tomb will write more of them with Charlie and Ella’s globe-trotting archaeology investigations. Very cool couple and enjoyable novel. Five stars and a polite request for more, please! – Eve Paludan

Great premise with two archaeologists on their honeymoon which leads to an entire epic adventure of mystery and international theft replacing treasures with forgeries.A touch of romance, action packed adventure, incredible thrill rides, and the perfect amount of mystery make this book a blast to read.Well developed characters and setting. Fantastic plot twists and tension scenes. Top notch writing and adventure!

However, it is very much a product of the time in which it was written. Buffalo Bill straddled two eras and must have found himself very lost in the latter part of his life.
