Fantastic Work By Amazon Customer I interned for Skateboarder Magazine (RIP) while Jon was a staff photographer there and had the pleasure of scanning some of his negatives for the mag. This only adds to my appreciation of this incredible body of work that he's created and curated. His work has been the inspiration for my photography, along with countless others. This book speaks to the adventurous spirit of skateboarding and Nat Geo is the perfect home for his images. Mr. Mehring has an eye for photography forged in the crucible of the skate world that sets his style apart from any other photographer today. I realize my description is getting a bit over the top, so I will say this: this book is incredible, buy it.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. One of the Top 3 Skateboarding and Photo Books of the Year By Jonesy "Skate the World: Photographing One World of Skateboarding" by Jonathan Mehring ranks as one of the top books of the year, along with "A Secret History of the Ollie, Volume 1: The 1970s" by Craig B. Snyder and "Tracker: Forty Years of Skateboard History" from Tracker Trucks. The book's strong point is its size and range of images which makes it the perfect coffee table book. What it lacks in the way of story and text is made up for with contemporary imagery from around the globe that depicts how integrated and connected the world has become through skateboarding. In the Foreward by Tony Hawk, Hawk states that the sport of skateboarding continues to transcend race, religion, language, and economic barriers, and this is absolutely true. But "Skate the World" only tells the middle story, and how skateboarding will continue to transform that future we will have to anxiously wait and see. For the beginning of this story, the Tracker book and "A Secret History of the Ollie" are the other must-haves for anyone who loves skateboarding, photography, culture, and history.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Must-Have Book for the Fearful Freelancer (Which is All of Us) By Ava Jarvis When I first contemplated starting freelance writing after 11 years as a software developer at Amazon, I was very, very afraid. Sure, I could write—even wrote for a website once—but that had been more than eight years ago. What if nobody wanted me? What if my writing skills just weren't good enough for the market these days? Was I too old to freelance? Was I too young and inexperienced? Would I starve? Heck, I'd have to hustle for clients. And while I'm something of an extrovert, I'm not *that* extroverted.I was so sure I was going to fail that I was frozen in my tracks, unable to even update my LinkedIn profile out of fear of losing every single last one of my contacts from my previous career.Carol Tice changed all that. Her website, Make a Living Writing, is a wonderful resource for freelance writers, with hundreds of posts. It would take months to go through them all, but in FEAR NOT!, Carol has compiled some of the best advice for overcoming that fear all freelancers feel. Yup, all of 'em. From the ones who write for Forbes and Redbook, all the way down to wee freelancers starting out, like me.Here's a summary of just some of the advice she includes—which, I should mention, also includes marketing tips for introverted writers!- What really happens when you make mistakes- How the big pros deal with their fear (and Carol is a big pro, no doubt about it!)- Marketing for the introverted writer- Fear-busting inspirational tips that actually have teeth- Carol's biggest failure in her lifeHere's a summary of what's not included:- Demotivational words from the "expect to fail" movement- Inspirational meaningless nutritionless fluff- How to get rid of fear through magic- A video of Carol's rock group daysTold with humor and honesty, this book is the perfect companion to your freelance fear-busting strategies. For fear is our greatest enemy. It freezes us when we need to act. And in freelancing, it's all about action.

By Shawanda James Fear is the one thing that's plagued me from the time I started my freelance writing career 4 years ago. I can't even remember how I first found Carol's blog, "Make a Living Writing", but it's been one of the best things to happen to my writing career. This book is SO invaluable because it provides much-needed encouragement AND practical, effective tips and techniques. Carol understands that writers need the confidence and the skill to break through fear. You also come to realize that she's your biggest cheerleader, even though she doesn't know you personally. That's huge, especially for writers who don't have a lot of support. Carol's attitude is, "I did it. You can do it too." That's the best part of all! Thanks Carol for another masterpiece! It really helped me, and stands to help thousands more.To the writers - no matter where you are in your freelance writing career, this book will help you. It can make the difference between going after your dream of being a writer, or spending many of your future days living in regret.

Fear Not! is a Little Piece of Heaven By Cherese Cobb As a new writer, I imagined a successful, six-figure writer sits on clouds, eats cotton candy, pets unicorns. Okay, I didn't really, but I did imagine that pro-writers careers are heavenly--sources get goosebumps when they hear the writers' names, clients beg to work with them, and hoards of adoring fans sing their praises. Carol Tice's newest e-book Fear Not! Confidence Building Insights, Tips, and Techniques grounded this belief. When Carol wrote that she was called unpatriotic among other non-publishable names for her Forbes' article "The Truth About Franchising for Veterans: Lots of Risk, Not Much Reward", I felt a tinge of relief. I recently had an article published at xoJane and commentators called me spoiled, psychotic, talentless, etc. Of course, like most writers, I automatically assumed that I sucked and wasn't cut out for the world of freelancing. Carol reminded me that my job isn't about being liked. It's about finding the truth and myself in the sea of black and white letters.

Sylvie and Cyrus with their Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Team Seven fellows have been sent to New Mexico to work with the Texas Rangers to investigate rumors that werewolf scouts are being used by the Montereyan Empire. They must navigate their way around dubious allies and hostiles. This is story is of a dystopian future. Its an old fashioned action adventure fantasy, with swords and boots, like the pulp fiction of the sixties and seventies.

By Pat Patterson While it gets along without it, the Author's Notes at the end of the book, which explain the world, should really go to the very beginning. It will explain a great deal of what is going on, without harming the story at all.I have been told that any book that is not immediately captivating in the first pages has zero chance of getting a contract in the world of traditional publishing, That is ANOTHER reason for us to be grateful for indie publishing. Ranger Ask Not has some minor, almost cosmetic flaws, but check this out:FANTASTIC world building. The societies on what used to be the North American Plains are described through action, and the conflicts are those which arise naturally. The inclusion of shape-shifters and were-wolves is an added benefit.GREAT characters. Heroes, villains, and hangers on are all portrayed with sympathy and respect. Nobody is tossed out there as a one-dimensional crowd-filler.GREAT plot. We know something is going to happen, and it does, with frequency. As an added bonus, Angus liberally sprinkles in passages which draw on his own experience with edged weapons. It makes a difference. And promises of sequels to come. I want sequels. Lots of sequels. So, with all that going for it, why is this a 4 star rating, and not a 5 star? One word: commas.I am NOT about to beat this great book and new author with a hammer. However, there is a big difference between "We've come to eat, Grandma!" and "We've come to eat Grandma!"Nuff said. So, pull up yer big kid pants, and give this book the treatment it deserves. The art part needs no improvement; the editing is easy to fix.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good, fun read. By Adrian Jordan I very much enjoyed this book. As mentioned elsewhere, the editing left a little to be desired in some spots. There was the lack of commas, and also the author uses the name of a character not in the scene in reference to the character speaking or being spoken to once or twice. Beyond that, the story is great. The action is heavy. The use of weapons and amour is described with more realism than you'll find in a lot of other places. The characters are interesting and well done. The setting is a nice blend of classic Western with a hint of feudal European. All in all, I'd suggest taking a chance on this book.

When the British Prime Minister, an amateur astronomer, spots a UFO flying close to his Norfolk country home, he knows it has to be a hoax. But it needs to be checked. He despatches Connie Wilson, his most personal investigator. Soon, she hooks up with John Gideon. They discover that other strange things are happening in the district. A charred body has washed up on a local beach. Mysterious security men in black four by fours are patrolling the neighbourhood. Two young girls have gone missing. And a cow has been heard speaking French. Something very big, very weird and very dangerous is going on. And somehow, it's all connected to a mysterious Viking Rock possessed of seemingly unlimited energy...

I really enjoyed reading about my home town of Albuquerque By CE I really enjoyed reading about my home town of Albuquerque, in fact I live a walk away from the observatory so that is fun too!Excellent character development and good writing for a first novelAlso a nice twist endingMy only problem with the book is a personal one, I am the child of a divorce and having the main character in serious marriage trouble and pondering an affair was tough for me personallyI hope for the next book that she moves the character past that issue by either already being divorced and moving on at the start of the book or working to save the marriage...

Ebook PDF Online Civic Engagement in Food System Governance: A comparative perspective of American and British local food movements (Routledge Studies in Food, Society and the Environment), by Alan R. Hunt

The local food movement is one of the most active of current civil engagement social movements. This work presents primary evidence from over 900 documents, interviews, and participant observations, and provides the first descriptive history of local food movement national policy achievements in the US, from 1976 to 2013, and in the UK, from 1991 to 2013, together with reviews of both the American and British local food movements. It provides a US-UK comparative context, significantly updating earlier comparisons of American, British and European farm and rural policies.

The comparative perspective shows that, over time, more effective strategies for national policy change required social-movement building strategies, such as collaborative policy coalitions, capacity-building for smaller organizations, and policy entrepreneurship for joining together separate rural, farming, food, and health interests. In contrast, narrowly-defined single issue campaigns often undermined long-term policy change, even if short-term wins emerged. By profiling interviews of American and English movement leaders, policymakers, and funders, the book demonstrates that democratic participation in food policy is best supported when funders incentivize groups to work together and overcome their differences.

Civic Engagement in Food System Governance: A comparative perspective of American and British local food movements (Routledge Studies in Food, Society and the Environment), by Alan R. Hunt

Review "This book fills a long-standing gap in academic research on the formation and growth of local food movements. The comparative approach is well-researched, providing evidence-based insights into processes of political and social change. It is a must-read for anyone studying food systems in the US or UK." – Becca Jablonski, Special Assistant Professor of Food Systems and Regional Economics, Colorado State University, USA.

"This is an authoritative study of local food movements in Britain and America, drawing on the author's extensive research and policy experience. It is full of insights for policy analysts, food farming and environmental campaigners, and students of politics." – Philip Lowe, OBE, Duke of Northumberland Professor of Rural Economy, Newcastle University, UK.

"Hunt’s research benefits from his experience building bridges between groups holding very different views of farm and food policy matters, amplified by personal insights from his family’s agricultural background. The result is policy analysis centered on people." – Gary R. Matteson, V.P. Young, Beginning, Small Farmer Programs, The Farm Credit Council, USA.

About the Author

Alan R. Hunt is owner and principal of Local Food Strategies LLC, based on his family farm in Hampton, New Jersey, USA. He was previously a Fulbright Scholar at the Centre for Rural Economy, Newcastle University, UK, where he also earned a PhD in Rural Development.

The book favors the use of primary evidence, reviewing over a thousand policy documents from governments and advocacy groups. The result is a different perspective on the movements for local food in the US and the UK. It digs deep into the inner workings of advocacy groups promoting local food systems. The sections with the interviews really insightful. It is probably best for a academic audience or if you are really into learning how food and farm policies happen at the national level.

The definitive monograph, created in close collaboration with the artist (1923-2015), a pioneer of abstract art, who influenced subsequent generations of artists such as Tauba Auerbach, Matt Connors and Alex Israel.

This definitive monograph, and the last book to be created in close collaboration with the artist, a pioneer of abstract art and one of the most distinctive and influential artists of our time, maps his prolific and diverse oeuvre from the 1940s to his final projects before his death in late 2015.

Encompassing his paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, postcards and prints, and including the iconic monochromatic paintings for which he has become best known, this monograph includes a chronological survey by Kelly expert Tricia Y. Paik. Enriched with in-depth interviews with Kelly, images from his personal archive, artworks by the artists who have inspired him and his own works, this survey celebrates Kelly's individual approach to his art.

This monograph also features short essays by leading writers and critics, Robert Storr, Richard Shiff, Gary Garrels and Gavin Delahunty, and an illustrated narrative chronology mapping Kelly's life and work, with many never before published images.

Review

"One of Fall's 10 Best New Coffee Table Books" —Bloomberg Pursuits

"For the consummate minimalist, here's a maximalist book on 92-year-old artist Ellsworth Kelly's lifetime of groundbreaking work. Curator Tricia Y. Paik guides us through the artist's color-soaked career in 400 illustrations and scholarly essays. It's a must for any Kelly fan: the only book, in fact, to completely span the artist's entire oeuvre." —Bloomberg Pursuits

"This work of beauty and scholarship proves that Kelly is one of the great master artists of the last century." —Publishers Weekly

"A new monograph from the ever-innovative Phaidon amply shows just how extraordinary his output has been... beautifully captures Kelly's diverse output... The New Yorker said: "What other artist except Matisse makes effulgent hues seem at one with cool intelligence?" Phaidon's book - and the work itself - provide the answer." — Roll Royce Magazine

"Kelly is a crucial link between early 20th century Europe avant garde and mid 20th century American avant garde. ...a definitive monograph, superbly presented; and for many he will be a revelation. He uses a single colour with such bright and such bold intensity. The impact increases with each turn of the page." — Mature Times

"The first [monograph] to cover his whole career and is rich in illustrations, not just of his work but of his milieu... the essays in this book help to reveal his human as well as artistic personality" —The Sunday Times

"Brighten an art aficionado's Christmas with Phaidon's definitive monograph on pivotal modern artist Ellsworth Kelly. Kelly was always ahead of his time, making monochromes and multi-panel works more than a decade before the term minimalism was coined. Kelly's career spans eight decades, and the book places him among other modernist masters, such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso." — Aesthetica

"There is a ruthless efficiency of your work—your color, your lines. But there is a tenderness to your work at the same time. It's pristine and efficient and yet deeply emotional." —Gwyneth Paltrow, Interview Magazine

"It would be misleading to suggest that Kelly is the kind of genius who can do no wrong; truer to say that even his mistakes are generally worth our time." — Frieze

"Part magician, part mathematician, he works with the precision and clarity of a poet." — The Guardian

"With lovely light-handedness, it demonstrates that Kelly's prints are more like books than movies. Each monochrome and multicolor abstraction is an intimate affair." — The Los Angeles Times

" [Kelly's] seven-decade career has been an unwavering exploration of shape, line and color in their purest forms. While many other artists of his generation were appropriating images of American flags or movie stars or newspaper clippings, Mr. Kelly was relentlessly immersed in abstraction: creating color spectrums and panel paintings with nothing but a giant curve or rectangle, or making drawings depicting the simple outline of a leaf." — The New York Times

"At 90, [Ellsworth] has spent more than half a century creating elegant, monochromatic canvases in uncannily luminous color—paintings whose spare beauty and grace are as self-evident as facts of nature and have placed him among the most eminent artists of his generation." — Vogue

The story is called the mission, is part Tony’s life dreams copyright. The story is about a dream I had in 1977, a very weird dream about me, as a predator in a reptile planet. Thinking back wondering if our planet earth would be identical to the world I created in my mind if the dinosaur survived.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Ray Bradbury would love this one By Frank Scozzari 'The Mission' provides a fabulous look into the mind of author Antonio Corona. It's based on a dream he had in 1977.Heading out to work one Arizona morning, the sky turns inexplicitly dark. Suddenly, the narrator finds himself in on a dark reptile planet equivalent to Earth in Jurassic times. Then the narrator himself morphs into some kind of predatory animal. What happens next is for the reader to find out. This is a hugely imaginative Sci-Fi short story. It is quite a literary adventure in terms of where the mind of the author takes the reader. Anyone fascinated in dream interpretation would find this story particularly interesting. Ray Bradbury would love this one.

About the Author Stan Fischler, "The Hockey Maven," has been covering the ice game longer and more actively than any living journalist. He began working professionally as a hockey journalist in 1954 and is a Lester Patrick Award-winner "for contributions to hockey in the United States." Currently appearing on MSG Networks "Hockey Night Live" weekly program, he made his television debut as an announcer working in Boston and covering the World Hockey Association's New England Whalers in 1973. His NHL debut took place two years later, when he began a long association with the New York Islanders doing telecasts. Fischler still does Islanders telecasts for the Madison Square Garden Networks, and he has no less than seven New York Emmy Awards to his credit. He wrote his first of more than 90 hockey books in 1968, an autobiography of Hall of Famer Gordie Howe. Fischler has "ghosted" autobiographies for such notables as Brad Park, Don Cherry, and Derek Sanderson. His "Bobby Orr and the Big, Bad Bruins" was a bestseller, as was "Hammer," the autobiographer of Philadelphia Flyers tough guy Dave Schultz. Before his wife, Shirley, died in May 2014, she collaborated with her husband on two definitive hockey encyclopedias, as well as other NHL books. He is a Brooklyn native.

The #1 book in my Kindle library By Gail Stolzenburg I have spent many hours during the past few years reading about, listening to, and studying the techniques Mark Davis and Tom "Big Al" Schreiter share in their books, CD's, and presentations on the subject of communication. There is so much valuable information.. Public Speaking Magic (and it is Magic), is as applicable to blogs, podcasts, webinars, emails, and just regular conversation as it is to delivering a speech. It truly does make a difference what you say and do in the first few seconds when meeting and speaking to someone. After reading it a number of times, I believe it will be helpful to any profession or industry. It is #1 in my Kindle library.

It contains many great ideas how you can get past the first 20 seconds in opening your speech in a group meeting, regardless if your audience is only a handful or a great multitude!I first thought that this book would be simply the same as one of Big Al's previous books, First Sentences or the Ice Breakers, but the book stands on its own.Of the three shortcuts provided, I put #2 (Tell a story) on top. The #1 (Ask a question) is not only great for public meetings but can also be thrown during one on one situation. I never thought about #3 (Do an exercise) to be possible, only after reading this book that I got the idea how to do it.Written with Mark Davis, this will be another additional collection of Big Al's great books in my Kindle Library.I highly recommend this book.Links for the other books of Big Al mentioned:Ice Breakers! Burroughs' Best Martian Tale By George R Dekle Conventional wisdom has it that the first three books of Burroughs' Martian series, "A Princess of Mars," "The Gods of Mars," and "The Warlord of Mars" form an excellent trilogy and all the rest of the Martian tales are quite poorly done in comparison. I disagree.I will cite two examples as to why "Chessmen" is Burroughs' best work in this series.[1] You can hardly conceive of a more ghastly creature than a spider-being who lives as a parasite on headless human bodies, but that is a perfect description of Ghek the Kaldane, one of the central figures of the book. Burroughs takes this repulsive monstrosity and makes him such a loveable character that you cannot help but like him.[2] Burroughs not only wrote a good yarn, he wrapped his tale around a striking boardgame that he had invented--jetan, or Martian chess. It's no real trick to invent a chess variant. There are thousands of them, and most of them are rubbish. What is so singular about jetan is that it is a good chess variant. I read "Chessmen" as a child, and after reading it, the first thing I had to do was make a jetan set and play the game. I whiled away several enjoyable hours with the game. John Gollon, a noted authority on chess variants, had a similar experience when he was writing "Chess Variations." He thought he'd include a chapter on jetan for some comic relief, so he made a jetan set and played a few games. He found jetan "quite good--very playable and interesting." He then pronounced jetan "not a mere novelty, but ... a respectable game."These two singular achievments (Ghek & jetan) are not the only details that make "Chessmen" so enjoyable. Gahan of Gathol (aka Turan the Panthan) makes for a satisfying hero, and Tara of Helium fills the bill quite nicely for a damsel in distress. The heros are noble, the villians are wicked, the cause is just, and the action is nonstop. Great escapist reading.

The Original and Authentic Magical Adventure By William Barton The Chessmen of Mars is, I think, the pinnacle of Burroughs career, and certainly the best of the Barsoom series. It's also one of the great science fiction romances of the Twentieth Century. As a boy, reading the typical John Campbell-influenced SF of the 1950s, nothing prepared me for finding this book (and about 30 other moldy Burroughs hardcovers) in my grandmother's attic. There's not an alienated child in the world who could read this book and not be struck deeply by the pathos and courage of Ghek the Kaldane, whose the real hero of the tale, rather than Gahan of Gathol, the golden boy who gets the girl.

I first read these books well over 50 years ago and they, and this book, have lost none of their charm. For the student of SiFi and S&S, these are a must read. Granted, the style is certainly different than todays books, but this is a plus. We need to read and remember it. That being said, these books are just simply fun to read. Recommend them highly.

A Fighting Man of Mars: With linked Table of Contents, by Edgar Rice Burroughs

About the Author Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is the creator of Tarzan, one of the most popular fictional characters of all time, and John Carter, hero of the Barsoom science fiction series. Burroughs was a prolific author, writing almost 70 books before his death in 1950, and was one of the first authors to popularize a character across multiple media, as he did with Tarzan s appearance in comic strips, movies, and merchandise. Residing in Hawaii at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbour in 1941, Burroughs was drawn into the Second World War and became one of the oldest war correspondents at the time. Edgar Rice Burroughs s popularity continues to be memorialized through the community of Tarzana, California, which is named after the ranch he owned in the area, and through the Burrough crater on Mars, which was named in his honour.

A Martian cliffhanger starring Hadron of Hastor By ealovitt This is one of the first science fiction/fantasy books I ever read and I couldn't bear to see it languish without a review. My copy (which originally belonged to my father) dates from 1931 and its story was originally published in six parts in the "Blue Book Magazine" from May to September 1930. It is wonderful to see these books reissued, as they are the progenitors of many, if not all of the heroic fantasy serials that take up so much room on modern bookshelves. Edgar Rice Burroughs (ERB) was the first and also (in my opinion) the best writer of multi-volume fantasies.'Fighting Man' is the seventh book in ERB's Mars series and differs from most volumes in the series in that John Carter, gentleman of Virginia and Warlord of Barsoom (Mars) is only a peripheral figure. The adventure is narrated in the first person by Hadron of Hastor, a warrior in the service of John Carter. Hadron's family is rich in honor but not in material possessions and when he falls in love with the wealthy Sanoma Tora, she snubs him. For months, the soldierly Hadron haunts the palace of Tor Hatan, Sanoma Tora's father, but his hope of winning her are vanishingly small until she is abducted one night by a mysterious flier. The strange ship is armed with a weapon that disintegrates the metal of a pursuing flier, and the Warlord realizes that there is now a new weapon of mass destruction let loose upon the dying seas of Barsoom (it's hard not to adopt ERB's style after reading one of his books).Hadron is promised Sanoma Tora's hand if he can rescue her. The Warlord dispatches the doughty warrior in search of his love, and asks him to keep an eye peeled for the new metal-disintegrator weapon.Since this story was originally written to be serialized, there is a cliff-hanger at the end of every chapter. Hadron's flier is shot down by the terrible green warriors of Barsoom. He escapes and is trapped in a deserted tower by a man-eating white ape. He escapes, rescues a slave named Tavia from the green men and the two of them take to the air in Tavia's flier.Unfortunately, they are forced to land in the demesne of a very paranoid tyrant. While Hadron is confined in the tyrant's Pit, he learns the secret of the invisible metal-disintegrating ray from a fellow prisoner.Hadron, now under a sentence of death must escape to save both Sanoma Tora and all of Helium (John Carter's Barsoomian kingdom). Our hero battles his way across the dead seas of Barsoom, evading or slaughtering cruel tyrants, mad scientists, formidably-tusked green warriors, etc. until the final reaches of chapter seventeen when he resolves all of the plot lines and finds his own true love (not who you might think).'Fighting Man' has all of the color and breathless dash of its predecessors in ERB's Mars chronicles. It's okay to start your adventure on Barsoom with 'Fighting Man,' although I would strongly recommend beginning at the first volume, "A Princess of Mars." 'Fighting Man' can stand alone because ERB includes a long forward in which he describes the flora, fauna, principal races, and wars of Barsoom.

This particular book was first published in installments around 1930, as was the custom with pulp fiction at that time. The series was more or less reintroduced during the early 1960s (that is when I started reading them) and has been around ever since. For a work to last that long indeed says something. I have to agree with the reviewer (Mr. Wallace) in that this is one of the better works of the series. Each page if filled with wonderful improbable action and the villians are endless. While John Carter is indeed a part of the story, the main character is one of his top warriors, Hadron of Hastor. Plenty of Damsel in Distress stuff here, and all good clean fun. If you have never read the series, suggest you do. If you have "out grown" the series, suggest revert back to the little boy or girl lurking deep within you and let him or her out. You won't be sorry. Recommend this one highly.

Van Court Sanoma Tora, beautiful daughter of a rich and powerful leader on Barsoom has been kidnapped! Noone knows by who or why, but the poor but courageous Hadron of Hastur (who has been paying court to her) volunteers to charge off to her rescue. Never mind that Sanoma Tora is a spoiled little gold-digger who has snubbed our hero at every turn, making it clear that he is neither rich nor influential enough to get into *her* bed...Guided by his passion for Sanoma Tora, he sallies forth to rescue her. In the process, he kills bad guys, rescues the innocent, enlists the aid of allies, becomes the hero to a poor escaped slave girl, and saves the entire fleet of Helium (the nation of John Carter, Warlord of Mars) from certain doom.Romance figures large in this one, with unrequitted love, by and for Hadron being the essential themes of this book.Needless to say, Hadron acts with honor, comes to his senses about the pampered princess/spoiled, self-serving brat (pick one or more), fights heroically, outwits his enemies, saves the day, and finds a more worthy love. All of the above is obvious, but getting there is a first rate ride.Another tale of Barsoom, another winner, and another reason to read the next one.E. M. Van Court
