Unreadable By Dave It was free so I lost no money.The description is for a short story in which a message from Mars is intercepted and an astronaut is to be sent who will be the first man to walk on the planet. In the 12% of the book I forced myself through, there's already a domed colony there complete with farms.The book is written as narrative description, changing from past to present tense, sometimes within sentences, sometimes within paragraphs. There is also an issue with going between first and third person. I also need to mention that the main character, James, somehow follows his father into the Air Force by graduating from West Point.Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

By Meanwhile, Melinda I always wondered how the brain to computer interface in all the futuristic books was developed. When the authors write stories, the awesome computer speaks in your head, shows your brain pictures, and you can control everything with a thought. Must be nice, but some poor dude had to develop and then test a rudimentary version. That had to hurt. Ouch!This book is about those two guys, and it is sci-fi at its best. They form a startup for their brain to computer interface, which is big clunky hardware, including a chair. It doesn't stay that way. One wouldn't think this would be an action novel, but it develops into one. The discoveries, the risks, the rewards, the knowledge - it overwhelms one partner, that's when the creativity really rolls.My curiosity is no longer running rampant. Lysle Shields provided an exciting and highly satisfying answer to my question: How did they get computers completely controlled by the human brain?Awesome job Mr. Shields!

Slow to build but great at the end By Bandora Fox The story was slow to build, while I appreciate it when the author takes time for character development, in this case I felt like it was taking too long for the book to get interesting. Minor contextual errors where the author's word processor changed the spelling of a word to something else are minor by itself but when it happened every few pages it got very frustrating.I came close to giving up on this book while waiting for it to "get good" but I was rewarded with a great ending that almost made the initial suffering worth it.I received a complimentary copy in exchange for an unbiased review.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent sci-fi debut by Lysle Shields By Kelley Love it! This book probes the current and future possibilities of symbiosis between humans and computers. Suspenseful at the end, the slower first few chapters allow you to immerse yourself in the characters lives and learn their quirks and motivations. I truly feel this is a great first book by this author and look forward to reading more!

Best Ebook Online Isn't That Rich?: Life Among the 1 Percent, by Richard Kirshenbaum

Celebrated ad man Richard Kirshenbaum, the original New York observer, reveals the fashions, foibles, and outrageous extravagances of the private-jet set Paid friends. Pot dealers draped in Dolce. Divorce settlements that include the Birkins at their current retail price. Air kisses, landing strips, and lounge-chair bribery. For most of us, the idea of life inside the golden triad of Park Avenue, Sagaponack, and St. Barths is just as exotic as the mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle. Luckily, Richard Kirshenbaum has a VIP pass to the Upper East Side and is willing to share the wealth—of gossip. His New York Observer column on uptown social life provides a fascinating glimpse behind the gilded curtain into the swanky restaurants and eye-popping vacation destinations where the 1 percent gathers.Isn’t That Rich? features highlights from Kirshenbaum’s monthly column as well as several brand-new essays. From cash-strapped blue bloods willing to trade their good names for a taste of nouveau riche treasure to the fine art of donning a cashmere sweater in Capri, our intrepid correspondent exposes the preoccupations of the posh. His insider sources may be anonymous, but “his up-to-the-minute portrait of today’s 1 percent is both insightful and a joy to read, no matter what tax bracket you’re in.” (Mortimer Zuckerman)

Isn't That Rich?: Life Among the 1 Percent, by Richard Kirshenbaum

About the Author Richard Kirshenbaum is one of the most exciting personalities in New York City advertising. In 1987, at age twenty-six, he cofounded the Kirshenbaum Bond + Partners agency, which pioneered such innovative concepts as the pop-up store, sidewalk advertising, and other forms of high-visibility guerrilla marketing. At the time of its sale, KBP was the largest independent ad agency in the United States, with one billion dollars in billing. In 2011 Kirshenbaum launched NSG/SWAT, a high-profile boutique branding agency that works with entrepreneurs and emerging companies. He is also cofounder, with music icon Chris Blackwell, of Blackwell Fine Jamaican Rum. Kirshenbaum has lectured at Harvard Business School, has appeared on 20/20, was named to Crain’s New York Business’s “40 under Forty” list, was inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame in 2000, and snagged second place on a list of the top one hundred US entrepreneurs. He is the author of the business book Under the Radar; the relationship guide Closing the Deal, which has been translated into nine languages; the advertising memoir Madboy, an Amazon bestseller; and Isn’t That Rich?, a compilation of essays from his New York Observer column. Kirshenbaum is an accomplished playwright, and his work has been produced by David Mamet’s Atlantic Theater Company. He has also contributed to Us Weekly’s “Fashion Police” feature and has written comedy for the legendary Joan Rivers, among others.

14 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Insider gossip By Margaret Picky "Isn't That Rich?" is an anthology of mostly reprinted columns of the same title from the unique, formerly-pink pages of the "New York Observer." Each chapter gives insight to a glib world of certain circles of various types of rich people in New York and those who associate closely with them.The writing style echoes the concerns and style of those it reports on, with lots of dialogue and name-dropping of places, activities, brands, foods, and drinks of choice, but with actual identities veiled behind just-vague-enough descriptive titles.Think of a much less demanding, society column version of Lewis Lapham, but with any conclusions or judgment left to the reader. I don't know any other author who does this in quite the same manner, and certainly not so skillfully or humorously.The only caution is that, while it is very amusing in small doses, read a chapter at a time as it was presented in the original context, reading it straight through might lead to an overdose of ennui.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Excellent By OneMoreThing Sales of tar and pitchforks should be through the roof. I kept reading and reading, thinking they can't all be awful, and it's true. Some of them aren't that awful. But most of them are indifferent, entitled, dismissive, and weirdly jealous of others who are just like them. It got so that every flicker of self-awareness from one of them was a profound relief.The point seems to be that money insulates people so overwhelmingly that they lose their ability to relate to anyone not as wealthy they are and then only on very superficial and entirely quantifiable terms.I recommend this book as an excellent inside look at the people who comprise our de facto aristocracy. The dialogue is pointed; the absence of named names a bit annoying at times but the reader gets the idea. Excellent reading for someone who enjoys the deep inside enemy territory works of Jeff Sharlet, but the prose is a little punchier and the sympathy for the subjects a little less apparent.

10 of 12 people found the following review helpful. LIfestyles of the Rich and Vacuous By Antigone Walsh Equally irritating and entertaining, this well written collection of essays portrays the wasteful excesses and arrogance of the uber rich. While Park Ave doyennes bemoan the damage special diets are doing to dinner parties, their male counterparts are busy mastering the art of draping cashmere sweaters. The author plays coy with his subjects, using only cutesy pseudonyms rather than real names. But like escargot, more than a taste quickly becomes nauseating. The author appears to be happy to be the lap dog of the rich and famous so long as it gains him entree into their charmed circle. Tremendous amounts of money clearly insulate these lucky folk from the common problems that plague the proletariat but also seem to immunize them from intelligence, compassion, generosity and kindness. I don't believe money makes the man. Morality does. And the rich folks presented here, are, despite their wealth, privilege and gilded lifestyles, sadly lacking. This is an easy read, amusing in parts and best taken in small doses. After reading, though you might be motivated to become a Teamster, a communist, or just read the biography of someone who deserves the ink like Mother Teresa.

What does it mean to be human? What if the price of saving humanity is giving up your own?

The year is 2322, and we stand upon the precipice of extinction.

The invading Metigen armada has decimated the eastern third of settled space in a matter of days, leaving tens of millions dead. Determined to save the heart of human civilization, Earth and Seneca at last put aside their differences to face the threat together. But even this may not be enough to stop the fleet of colossal dreadnoughts inhabited by advanced AIs.

Alex Solovy and Caleb Marano hold the key to defeating the invaders, for they know the secrets the aliens wage war to protect. Now they face a deadly gauntlet of relentless alien hunters and assassins sent to kill them before they can unleash a potent new weapon. They will risk everything in a bid to save their families, their loved ones, the entire human race - even if it means they can't save each other.

The lines blur between man and machine, ally and enemy, and soldier and civilian. In a final stand against an ancient, powerful foe intent on eradicating it from the universe, humanity comes face to face with its destiny.

When faced with its greatest challenge, will humanity rise to triumph or fall to ruin?

Aurora Rising is an epic tale of galaxy-spanning adventure, of the thrill of discovery and the unquenchable desire to reach ever farther into the unknown. It's a tale of humanity at its best and worst, of love and loss, of fear and heroism. It's the story of a woman who sought the stars and found more than anyone imagined possible.

Jennsen is an amazing writer.4. It is my opinion that if you buy and read this book/series, you will gush also. And I'm not even kidding.And this is why I think all of what I just said.1. This book/series is a space opera. Which means it's a really huge story that spans the galaxies. Which means lots of people and places and events. ALL of which were handled beautifully by this writer. I did not scratch my head at any point and wonder - it was all well thought out and nicely tied together.2. The characters were all compelling in their own ways with distinctive and well-developed personalities. There were plenty to love, plenty to hate, and I found myself emotionally invested in pretty much all of them. (Did you hear that, G.S? We need more books about them!)3. The writing was quite well done. In an exciting story such as this one, I sometimes find myself skipping sentences and paragraphs in order to get to more of the story. Not so with this book. I was careful to read each sentence because the writing is just that good. I will echo the other reviewers who have said this book/series is very well done for a first time author.So quit debating with yourself and reading reviews to decide whether or not to purchase and read this book/series. Just do it. And get ready to gush.

Great Read By GerryN For those who love science fiction painted with a broad brush, strong plot lines and well developed characters this is a great read and an excellent closure for the trilogy. You could read this a stand-alone, especially since Jennsen has provide synopses of the two earlier books and a summary list of characters, but I don't recommend it. Transcendence brings together virtually all of the plot lines from the two previous books and - (hope I'm right here) - segways into futher adventers of Alexis and Caleb. In particular, I enjoyed the great dialog, strong female characters, and the male characters who possesed both intelligence and strength, Jennsen adroitly handles combat with nearly invinciple aliens, very human relationship issues, the limitations of human intelligence, control of nearly human artificial intelligence, and the importance of individual actions in complex and diverse society under great stress from both within and without. I read though it in two days and am now rereading it more carefully - and enjoying as much as my first read. Hope you enjoy this trilogy as much as I did.

13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. A memorable trilogy by a very skillful author. Can't wait for her next book. By Wullie This is one of the best SF series that I have read for some years. With a strong, gripping story-line and a cast of very engaging characters, GS deftly handles abstruse topics including evolution of artificial intelligences and their interface with humans. Set in a Multiverse where the future of humanity is threatened by aliens from another universe, this is the story of the battle between the aliens and the human forces led by Alex Solovy and her friends, both human and AI.Impossible to put down once started, this series is finely crafted and very thought provoking. Highly recommended.

And many of those writers never get to The End. It's not because they lack talent or drive. They just need some direction and guidance. They need Michelle Lim's Idea Sparking. I love how this book gives writers daily encouragement, tips, and suggestions for meeting daily word count. Coyle's expert ability to draw from the deep historical background of cataloging theory to illuminate the potentials of library data on the Web helped win her the 2011 ALCTS Outstanding Publication Award. Here she persuasively argues that to more effectively connect library users with books, movies, music, computer games, and other resources, library data needs to move beyond FRBR towards a more integrative approach to bibliographic models. But doing so requires fundamental changes in the approach to library data. Combing a sweeping perspective with a critical eye, she assesses how we define a work in the bibliographic world. Showing how bibliographic models reflect technology and our assumed goals of libraries, she points the way ahead for catalogers and metadata specialists, providing clear explanations and analysis on such topics as

  • library data models and their connection to technology, from early printing to relational databases and the Semantic Web;
  • ideas and influence of leading thinkers such Lubetsky, Wilson, and Tillet, along with lesser known theorists like Tanaguchi;
  • IFLA meetings that led to the FRBR study group, including its original charge and final report;
  • FRBR as a conceptual model, and how that differs from data models;
  • the FRBR document's flawed entity-relationship model and how it overlooks user needs;
  • efforts to define a work as a meaningful, creative unit separate from the physical package;
  • detailed analysis of the FRBR entities; and
  • implementations of FRBR both inside and outside the library community.
Coyle's articulate treatment of the issues at hand helps bridge the divide between traditional cataloging practice and the algorithmic metadata approach, making this book an important resource for both LIS students and practitioners.

Dublin to Dieppe to Amsterdam. A routine trip for the cargo ship Kreya, her Danish crew and handful of passengers. Brief enough for undercurrents to remain below the surface and secrets to stay buried. The portents, though, are ominous. ‘There are three signs,’ the spiritualist warned. ‘The first is when the beast walks free. The second is when water breaks iron … The third is when horses swim like fishes.’ Captain Olsen, a self-confessed connoisseur of human stupidity, has no patience with the irrational, and little interest in the messiness of relationships. ‘I condemn no man or woman,’ he declares, ‘however savage and enormous their sins, as long as they do not touch the Kreya. But anything that touches the ship is different. In this small world, I am God. I judge, I punish, and I need not give my reasons.’ Olsen’s philosophy is challenged in the extreme when, in mountainous seas, disaster strikes: the rudder smashed beyond repair, a mutiny, and the battered vessel adrift in the vast ocean, driven irrevocably northwards by wind and tide - until she comes to rest, at last, lodged in the great Arctic ice-pack.

By Evil Overlord 3.5 stars - Metaphorosis ReviewsA Danish cargo ship with a few passengers meets bad weather during a short voyage.I started reading John Christopher a long time ago - maybe with The Lotus Caves (soon to be a film?) or with The Prince in Waiting, both books that opened my eyes to a whole different kind of writing than I'd seen to that point. I read The Prince in Waiting not too long after it came out, and for all its YA focus, it may have been the most adult thing I'd read to that point, with its hero forced to confront life's harsh realities outside his comfortable life. I still love those books.It's just as well I didn't start with The White Voyage, a much more adult book in which things happen slowly and deliberately, even as reader and characters all see disaster looming larger and larger with each passing hour. The characters are well-drawn, but lack distinctive voices; even the stubborn, resolute captain takes some time to show a difference from his more romantic first mate. Christopher (who I only now learn was really Sam Youd), did better with his young adult characters, to be honest.This adult book has a fair helping of philosophical introspection about the nature of life, destiny, and purpose. Some of it is absorbing and interesting; some seems misplaced and dry. What keeps the book gripping despite its somber nature is the impending doom that's clearly signaled from page one - even from the title. It's a ghastly, fascinating slow-motion crash that, for all its romantic concerns, does little to spare the reader's emotions.If you only know Christopher from his young adult books, be warned: this is different. This is a thoroughly adult book, though a less effective one than his best YA. Its a dark and effective look at certainty and its costs. Worth taking a look at, to see a different side of the John Christopher you think you know.

By Happy Amazon Customer "The hard gleam of determination in his eye sparked their own drifting dampness of spirit." ~John Christopher, 'The White Voyage' This book is quite literary and not everyone will like the prose style, yet I loved it. The story is very much a tale of shipboard woe, with leisurely pacing, so read that sample before you buy it and you'll know if this book is your cup of tea. Was so surprised to discover and read this book by John Christopher. I love his The Tripods Set of 4: When the Tripods Came/ the White Mountains/ the City of Gold and Lead/ the Pool of Fire sci-fi Tripods series of 4 books. It's the kind of sci-fi that you can read and enjoy again and again. As far as 'The White Voyage,' the writing is terrific and the story is interesting (or was to me). Happy reading~*

By Pete Barber (Author) White Voyage’s premise is far from new—place a group of strangers in a life threatening situation and see what happens—yet the author’s prose flowed so smoothly, and his characters felt so true, that I really enjoyed the journey.The story rolls along at a sedate pace, but even this impatient reader was never tempted to skip-read. The interaction between the characters and the feeling of impending doom that hangs over the novel kept me engaged. I wanted to know who the winners and losers would be. Who would unravel? Who would dig deep and find the will to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles?And I had to wait until the end to find out—as it should beDisclaimer: This review was originally written for "Books and Pals" book blog. A missile flight simulation is a computational tool that calculates the flight of a missile from launch until it engages the target. The simulation is based on mathematical models of the missile, target and environment. This book provides instruction for the preparation of these mathematical models to simulate the flight of a surface-to-air missile. The 2nd Edition of Missile Flight Simulation provides updated simulation processes using MATLAB® and Simulink™, while improving and clarifying previous content. The book may be used as a reference or as a textbook, although it is devoid of exercises. However, the reader is encouraged to perform the simulation of Charter 12 using MATLAB® and Simulink™, or a programming language such as FORTRAN (see Chapter 10). The book is not intended to be a missile flight engineering reference and does not contain every aspect of missile flight. It provides the appropriate content for simulating missile flight from launch to terminus only.

Mcglynn I recently acquired a copy of "Missile Flight Simulation" by Dr. Jeffrey Strickland. I have worked in missile defense and tactical missile seeker system engineering for more than 20 years and I find this to be one of the more useful items in my missile flight dynamics library, after Zarchan's priceless "Tactical and Strategic Missile Guidance."Dr. Strickland first provides a solid grounding in missile fundamentals, the physics of flight, and associated missile systems/subsystems in the first three chapters - after that the reader is plunged into a solid mathematical treatment of the physics of missile flight and flight simulation of missiles and targets. In later chapters there is a first-rate treatment of guidance and control and missile seekers - EO/IR and RF - at various levels of simulation fidelity, as well as a solid treatment of HWIL simulation techniques and pros/cons. The final third of the text concentrates on a systematic development of a missile as a system, and the translation of missile systems engineering into equivalent software engineering and algorithm development, including several helpful Matlab/Simulink examples.I would like to close by stating two observations, which are, of course, only my personal opinion. First, this is a very valuable reference for expert-level practitioners of missile-systems engineering and missile flight simulation, and a great addition to the technical library of anyone involved in missile systems engineering and missile flight simulation. Secondly, I would like to state what - in my opinion - it is NOT. I don't think that this is a standalone textbook - I would find it quite difficult to use this book as a textbook, even at the graduate level - either as a student or as an instructor. In all fairness, I think it stands on its own as a reference and would make a valuable adjunct to a graduate level text in this area (e.g., Zarchan's text).If you are a practicing missile systems engineer or heavily invested in missile flight simulation - from low-fidelity link-budget models to high-fidelity 6-DOF flyout simulations - this is a must have for your reference library.

Hollingshead (Ann Arbor, MI) I have been involved in engineering analysis and simulation for 41 years and specifically in tactical missile modeling and design for 26 years. I am currently responsible for introducing new staff engineers to mathematical and physical concepts required to understand operation and performance of tactical missile functional systems. I purchased this book based on the review provided by Mr. Mcglynn.Tactical guided missile design involves virtually every field of classical physics and engineering science and as such, attempting to explain the underlying physics and mathematical concepts as well as computer implementation in a single book is going to be at an introductory level at best. I feel that Mr. Mcglynn has focused on the positives of the book, rather than acknowledging that there are a number of flaws and shortcomings.Things that are "right" about this book include the overall introduction in Chapter 2. It provides a decent overview of the various missile subsystems on the most part, and I believe this is the best feature of the book overall. The author provides a description of the subsystems in more detail in other chapters: Chapter 4 on missile dynamics derives the 6-DoF equations in sufficient detail. Chapter 6 on propulsion is adequate as a description of rocket motors. More discussion of air-breathing engines would be useful. Discussion of target motion in chapter 7 and scene simulation in chapter 9 are topics that are adjunct to describing missile physics and functional design, but certainly are important in simulation and as such are helpful as reference topics. Chapters 10, 11 and 12 are dealing with computer implementation issues. In my opinion, these are written at an overview level, and the numerical implementation in Chapter 12 in particular could have been deleted.Things that I believe need improvement in the book counterbalance its positives to a large degree. First and foremost is that I believe the author did not adequately describe guided missiles in terms of feedback control system concepts. These concepts are alluded to, but not in any detail. My contention is that without a firm grasp of these concepts, understanding the target tracker, flight control and overall guidance loop itself are not possible. Many people new to missile simulation come with training in computer science, classical physics and mathematics but have no exposure to control systems engineering. A chapter needs to be included discussing linear systems, Laplace transforms and the rudiments of control systems. One example of this shortcoming is discussion of CLOS guidance where the author describes that guidance requires both an offset error and an offset error rate. The reason for the rate term is not apparent unless one understands feedback control system stability.In my opinion, chapter 4 on aerodynamics, which admittedly is a tough subject,is the least satisfying of the book. It does not adequately explain the physics or thermodynamics of compressible fluid flow; it is confusing in places and outright wrong in one section. The overall tenor is that this description was based on subsonci wing theory and airplane aerodynamics theory which differ from Body-Wing-Tail missile supersonic aerodynamics in several major respects. There is no mention of how shock wave physical characteristics and wave drag. The author appears not to be aware of slender body aerodynamic theory applicable to missiles.I also felt that no mention of the navigation system and its relation to both flight control and guidance systems is a serious omission. In several places the author states that the missile doesn't have its velocity vector available. All modern missiles have an inertial measurement unit that provides this. Proportional Navigation (PN) guidance is arguably the most important guidance concept to understand for missileers. I feel that the discussion of this does not provide adequate detail. I would recommend the series of six papers by the staff of Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (available online at no cost).Other areas that I feel are not developed in sufficent detail for a reference book are the discussion of coordinte transforms, which are relegated to an appendix with little explanation of how they are developed. In my experience coordinate transforms and their computation present a major source of problems translating mathematical models into a working missile simulation. Somewhat related is a lack of detail about "aerodynamic trim" 3-DoF models and what they imply about 3-DoF simulation coordinate transforms. I didn't see where the "Pseudo-5 DoF" simualtion approach was addressed at all.As an aside, there are many typographical errors, which are quite confusing to the neophyte and the typesetting could be improved. Fixing these errors (or providing an errata list) would help with readability.Overall, the book should provide a starting point for people being introduced to missile simulation, and the relatively low price provides decent value per dollar for people entering this business; however, I don't believe that even moderately experienced missileers will gain a great deal this book.

6 of 8 people found the following review helpful. A must have for beginners By John Gault I have not been involved in engineering analysis and simulation as Mr. Hollingshead, but I also bought this book based partially on Mr. Mcglynn's recommendation and I had also downloaded the free low-res version from the author's website.Let me first say that Mr. Hollingshead presumes to understand the author's mind and brings years of engineering presuppositions into play. Dr. Strickland is not an engineer; he is a mathematician. As a physicist, I am well aware that we look at concepts, identical ones, with a different perspective, than does a mathematician. I believe the same is true for engineers. At any rate, this book on surface-to-air missile simulation is from the perspective of a mathematician. This is probably the reason that Dr. Strickland spends an entire chapter on numerical implementation, which Mr. Hollingshead finds fault with.Are things "not right with this book"? Probably, but a book that covers the depth and breadth of material that Mr. Hollingshead is looking for cannot be covered in one volume of one book, in my opinion. It would appear that Dr. Strickland took a "just enough" approach to areas like flight dynamics, in order to get to the mathematical modeling (which is his forte) of a physical phenomenon, in this case a missile.Is the text full of typographical errors? I have found a few, but not as many as Mr. Hollingshead claims, nor more than I would expect. Mr. Hollingshead has made four typographical errors in his short review (see if you can find them).I do agree that "overall, the book should provide a starting point for people being introduced to missile simulation, and the relatively low price provides decent value per dollar for people entering this business." In fact books with similar treatment of the subject could cost three time as much as this text. Perhaps that is why there were some "editing slipups."In summary, I am really enjoying this books--I have not completely digested it. It makes complicated concepts simpler, provides numerous examples and graphics, and is well written. I was able to reconstruct Dr. Strickland's 5-DOF simulation in Chapter 12 with ease. I found the material in every section useful in its breadth of coverage, and a few in their depth of coverage.For the price of this book, I would by three and give two to younger collegues. I have never seen works this specialized and extensive sell so little. Dr. Strickland did an excellent job keeping costs down, and his choise to use MATLAB and Simulation was excellent. However, one could aslo use the GNU Public Octave as well, and at know cost.I highly recommend this book to beginnig molders, MATLAB users, and those who desire a refresher of the basics. But remember, this is a book about missile flight simulation. For detailed background on missile dynamics and guidance and control systems, you may need supplemental material. I am certain that Dr. Strickland is capable of witing there supplements, but from browzing his website, his passion appears to be simulation.And by the way, It is best to criticize a work, rather than the author of the work. Most critics have never been able to walk in an author's shoes :)

Briley has had such a warm and strong character development over these 5 books in the series and you can see how the world she inhabits has grown richer for it. My Smokey cat is still the irreverent wisecrack and it just makes you want to hug him and laugh. Awesome story and awesome series! I won't be waiting to start book 6, it is loaded and waiting for me, so here I come.

Here now is a steamy collectionOf limericks rare. Each selectionWill run for five lines,Contain marvelous rhymes—Detailing sex acts of subtle complexion.Some readers may think that it’s crudeTo offer for sale what is lewdBut if you’re offendedBy what is appended,We’ll say what you are; you’re a prude!Ronald Stanza has put together a collection of outlandishly funny limericks about some of the most serious, offensive, and even dangerous predicaments. These unique scrubblings are better than any insipid piece of graffiti doodled on a bathroom stall. This book describes just about every awkwardly inappropriate situation that nobody ever thought of writing a poem about, from dabblings in spectrophilia to bestiality, and from ill-fated self-servicing to the (mis)adventures of very misguided clergymen. If you’re a lover of all things raunchy, crass, and base, you will laugh for hours at the likes of impotent Scots, naughty old Sapphos, old women of Ghent, Oscar McDingle O’Figgle, lecherous Northumbrian druids, and one old phony named Kinsey. WARNING: Not recommended for reading in churches, libraries, mixed company, or quiet family gatherings. Proceed with caution, weariness, and most of all, a sense of humor!

"NO OTHER BOOK HAS MADE ME FIRE DIET COKE FROM MY NOSTRILS" - COMEDIAN TOM COTTER. What do hookers, Wall Street brokers, actors, tourists, rock stars, priests, drug dealers, fashion models, tourists, bartenders, old ladies, newlyweds, and divorce attorneys have in common? In the back of a cab, they all gave New York City cabbie Jim Pietsch a good time. Just because he asked them one simple question: "Heard any good jokes lately?" And they delivered...everything from crazy crack-you-up clean jokes, to fall-on-the-floor-laughing raunchy jokes. Jim didn't just listen and laugh, though. He shared the funniest of them all in his bestselling The New York City Cab Driver's Joke Book and its side-splitting sequel, The New York City Cab Driver Joke Book, Volume 2. Now, the Master Joke Magnet is back, putting together all the A-#1 Primo Material Killer Jokes from his first two books into one punchline packed volume. Jim got his first book deal when an editor for Warner Books got into his cab. After they spent the long trip trading jokes while driving from the West Side to the East side, she told him that he should write a book and gave him her card. He called her, and two weeks later he delivered a proposal to her at her office. The next day, she offered him a book deal and Jim’s Joke World was officially born. Only in New York! The New York City Cab Driver’s BEST JOKE BOOK EVER includes over 300 of Jim’s favorite one-liners and story jokes. He hopes that joke tellers everywhere will use this volume as their handbook, telling the jokes to everyone they know, and spreading hysterical laughter all over the world.

The Flying-U Ranch (Illustrated), by B.M. Bower

From Library Journal B.M. (Bertha Muzzy) Bower was the first woman to make a living writing Westerns, knocking out well over a dozen. This 1914 outing tackles the clash between the original cattlemen and the encroaching sheep ranchers. Both groups vying for the same grazing land historically was the cause of a lot of tension and bloodshed similar to the range wars between cowboys and farmers. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information, Inc.

From the Back Cover Life at the Flying U Ranch in the Bear Paw country of Montana was pleasant - until thousands of sheep invaded the coulee. B. M. Bower casts the ancient enmity between cattlemen and sheepmen in her own robust and slyly humorous style. Flying U Ranch brings back the Happy Family of cowboys introduced in Chip of the Flying U. Bertha Muzzy Bower, a Montanan herself, understood the joshing, boasting, and thoroughly decent young hands who worked at the Flying U - Andy, Pink, Slim, Big Medicine, Happy Jack, and the other members of the Happy Family. Here they must confront defiant sheepherders just when Chip and the Old Man are in Chicago. Bower delights in showing how they deal with rage and frustration without resorting to violence. The witty and nervy Flying U bunch gets satisfaction from a difficult situation justly ended.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Old time fun By Twostory A dated, but well written western yarn of the actions of cowboy ranch hands dealing with troubles with adjacent property-stealing sheep herders while their boss is away. At first it goes bad for the cowboys, but together they come up with a plan to attempt to get even and stop the take-over. All the characters and activities are believable. Some clever twists hold your interest despite the old-fashioned writing style.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Science fiction with impressive technology By Victoria Randall Symphonies is an action-packed science fiction story, heavy on the science.As a young teen, Mike witnesses his father’s murder by unknown political enemies. He is a genius in some ways, and the story follows his education and rise to importance in medical and scientific fields. Eventually he is chosen as the first man to be sent to another dimension, another Earth. What he finds there is not quite believable, but interesting.The venture into another dimension I found somewhat disappointing, as it could have been elaborated to a much greater extent. I’d rather have learned more about the other dimension than about Mike’s educational attainments. His relationship with the AI synched with his mind is fascinating.There is much to appreciate about this book, although it doesn’t flesh out enough details in some areas and too many in others. But it is fast moving, and worth a read, especially if you enjoy technology.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. does he realise he's missing out on love.. By Christophe Rating 3.5 stars.This is an epic story of one man, Mike Colford, and his astonishing adventures in life.It seems the main character in the book has it all - intelligence, attraction to women, people skills, survival instincts - except he doesn't quite have it all and only when he travels to another dimension (spoiler) and may well get stuck there, does he realise he's missing out on love...The book is well written. The writing has humour and action.The grammar is excellent. The author covers the sweep of Mike Colford's life with panache. I particularly liked the internal dialogue Mike has with (spoiler) an Artificial Intelligence computer that gets wired to his brain.Recommended.
