A Cowboy Christmas: An American Tale is a novel of Western fiction for all ages. Masterfully crafted, the story explores the lore of the Western frontier when it was imagined to be as big and far away as the moon.
The tale begins just beyond the far bank of the Mississippi, when the Stars and Bars were in tattered threads, and sweeps across Arizona and New Mexico Territories, westward to California gold.
WB, not yet 16, crosses the mighty river without fear and leaves the muddy shores of civilization behind. With empty pockets, a spark for life, and a wild sense of freedom, he follows his heart, searching for adventure and fortune in a new world. Experiencing the harsh realities of the Great Plains, WB meets the love of his life, Ginny. As they are falling in love, and as fate has it, they are separated by a hostile encounter. When WB awakes, Ginny is gone.
Crisscrossing the West in search of each other, WB and Ginny experience the perils of a wild frontier and a Western theater of unraveling characters. Their tale unfolds with close encounters and near misses. Overcoming the hardships of staying alive and enduring the challenges of a vast landscape - their destiny - bound by love and loyalty is tested. Ginny and WB come alive, discovering their own identities.
An American tale rich in history and vivid word pictures is told in a cowboy's flavorful soup of words with wit, grit, and humor - an inspiring adventure of discovery, strength, character, and romance.

By Amazon Customer I received this book as a gift from a really close friend. It was even autographed! (Cool signature by the way). I decided to give it a read on my flight home. A young man heads west to carve out his path and a new life. The adventures he has along the way are quite incredible! I was told there is a lot of historic truth to the towns he traveled along the way which made it even more interesting. His romantic interest has quite the adventure herself, and can hold her own. I almost read it in an entire sitting, but had to take a break because it was so rich in dialog. Some chapters are short and they really pack a punch. Thanks Mark for this gift. Our friendship means a lot.

Truncale Even though I was born and raised in a big city, like a lot of young American boys I dreamed of being a cowboy. This classic (A Cowboy Christmas: An American Tale by Tom Vandyke) is a story about a young man who hits the trail with the goal of discovering the wild west and be coming a cowboy. Along the way he winds up for a short time with a family in a wagon who are also going west. This family has a beautiful daughter named Ginny. Our young cowboy becomes smitten with Ginny and loses her along the trail. For the next three years our young cowboy drifts westward learning how to be a cowboy along with many life lessons. He is still trying to find out where his true love Ginny is located. I never give away too much in a novel and spoil it for the reader. If you love down home writing and a great cowboy story I strongly recommend this book. This 110 page text is organized into 22 delightful short stories and a fantastic ending. The writer really makes you feel like you are on the open range sitting in the saddle next to our romantic cowboy. An absolutely great read.If you love cowboy stories you will love this one.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: The Samurai Soul: An old warrior's poetic tribute).

First time author, VanDyke, spins a delightful narrative of the old West as told through the eyes of a young cowpoke, WB. A love story weaves its way through the well researched and developed account of living life in the rugged Old West of the late 1870s. I look forward to the next book from this new author who shows a great deal of promise.
