1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Four Stars But! By D. J. R. McGOWAN An awful lot of work has gone into this book and provides some excellent advice to both beginner and advanced artist and I do share and appreciate most of the views and advice given by my fellow artist and while the author warns (quite rightly) about the grid system, he, like so many other books on drawing, puts this method forward. This to me spoils the uniqueness of the book The grid method, once used, is like cocaine and very habit forming and most 'artists' using this method, seldom return to learn how to actually draw! My advice would be to jump ahead and avoid this section, but read and practice the rest, in this otherwise excellent book.Daniel McGowan Portrait artist (author Why Measure? 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent guide to portraiture By jackel88 This is one of the best books I've read lately on the subject of portraiture. It gives many techniques in each phase of drawing a portrait. It begins with the true fundamentals of pure drawing, let alone a portrait. It goes into excellent details of every phase from beginning to end of completing the portrait.
