Commander Peter Wake, U.S. naval intelligence agent, is in Florida in 1888 culminating an espionage mission to learn Spain’s naval readiness in Cuba. He and sidekick Sean Rork are hoping to wrap it up and head home on their annual leave. But a beautiful woman from his past shows up, begging him to find her missing son. He agrees, and thus Honor Bound, Wake sets off across Florida and through the Bahamian islands with a motley band, including a Smithsonian ethnologist, a naval architect, a Bahamian Seminole sailor, Russian spies, British military intelligence, and a Polish-Haitian soldier. The search for the boy leads Wake through an ever-deepening maze of international intrigue―and an ever more passionate relationship with the boy’s enticing mother. After enduring storms, mutiny, and shipwreck, Wake and his group find themselves deep in the jungles of Haiti and the alien world of the Bizango culture and the vodou religion. The trail leads Wake to the hidden lair of an anarchist group, only to learn they are planning to wreak havoc around the world―-unless he stops it.Honor Bound is the ninth book in the series. Macomber's previous Honor novels are At the Edge of Honor (winner of the Patrick D. Smith Literary Award as Best Historical Novel of Florida), Point of Honor (winner of the John Esten Cook Literary Award for Best Work in Southern Fiction), Honorable Mention, A Dishonorable Few, An Affair of Honor, and A Different Kind of Honor (winner of the American Library Association Boyd Literary Award for Military Fiction), The Honored Dead, and The Darkest Shade of Honor.

Del Colliano I am a history major from Florida's oldest college(Rollins), and everytime I read one of Mr. Macomber's books, I learn something about Florida and the West Indies, and other remarkable and exotic locales. This newest effort has more plot twists than the Pentagon has angles - and a remakable amount of historical information that Macomber interweaves into his books.I recommend it in the strongest possible terms to fans of historical novels - especially ones that deal with the oceans. You will enjoy this book even more than the others Mr. Macomber has penned. I think he is a national treasure.

The story was fast paced, interesting and anything but predictable. The background research and study the author puts into his work, not to mention the "eyeball recon", makes the reader feel that they have been to these places with the characters. I have read all nine of the Honor Series involving the adventures of Peter Wake and enjoyed them all, but each book stands on its own. The author has never left the reader feeling like they missed something along the way if they have not read all of the novels in this series because he is so good about tying the story lines together within the narratives of each novel. The historical aspects he touches on his his endnotes makes it difficult sometimes for the reader to separate fact from fiction with regards to the characters in the book, which is a credit to the author.I highly recommend this book and series to anyone. Before I picked up my first Honor Series novel, I knew little to nothing about sailing, boats, or Florida and little about the Navy. These books have been a great and interesting education in all of these subjects and more. I eagerly await the next installment.

Action packed, fast moving, excellent documentation, polished and honed with well balanced, humor, intrigue, romance, history, narrative and even tenderness. I have read all of his previous books and this one proves that Robert is even more focused and determined to deliver a superior product. Kindle makes it better for me.John M.
