About the Author Phil Gurski served for more than 30 years as an analyst in the Canadian intelligence community. In 2001 he joined CSIS where he was a strategic analyst, specializing in homegrown Al Qaeda-inspired terrorism and radicalization to violence. In 2013 he moved to Public Safety Canada as a Senior Strategic Advisor on Canada’s Countering Violent Extremism policy.

By Peter Collins This book is a tightly written 170 page gem that addresses the risk factors for radicalization, the factors underly the foundation of the AQ narrative and the observable behaviours of those on that path to violent acting out. Case examples are provided, but this is not a "tell-all" authored by a retired CSIS analyst. Mr. Gurski provides an important and insightful text that is very readable. By Amazon Customer A scholarly explanation of what Canada is doing to combat terrorism through identifying and dealing positively with young people who are at risk of becoming radicalised or who have become radicalised. This author analyses case histories and compiles a list of factors to use in the identification process so State agencies can better target their efforts to counter terrorism. This requires the assistance of family, friends, colleagues, teachers, church leaders etc so the author carefully avoids an analysis of the Koran and the life of Mohammed as ultimate sources of radicalisation.
