I found the premise of a secret society tasked with protecting the presidency to be so intriguing that I stopped reading The President's Shadow, and picked up the first two books. That worked well for me, as I found the characters growth during the series to be important and the stories seemed to build on each other. What I can say is that I really like Brad Meltzer's writing style, it was almost conversational. The mixture of fact and fiction keeps it interesting, and I think all three are vastly entertaining. They are complex, fast paced, and yes, fun. The set would make a great investment, and I'm certain that readers already enmeshed in the series will not be disappointed by it's conclusion.*I received my copy through NetGalley.com in exchange for an honest review.

Actually I didn't know it was a series until I started writing my review. The story goes from the present back to the time Beecher's dad was in the service. I had absolutely no problem keeping up with the story due to it being a sequel or the fact it jumped back and forth. As a matter of fact, I read it in one sitting and missed a meal because I was so into the book.I will say this though, you can't trust anyone hardly in this book. Your not sure until the end who's good and who's bad and then, you still wonder. The only problem I had was how Marshall and his dad got burned which must of been in an earlier book. It still didn't deter my enjoyment, it only makes me want to read the rest of the series.I want to thank Grand Central Publishing and Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this fast paced and entertaining thriller which I thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

By Amazon Customer In The Inner Circle, Tot invited fellow archivist Beecher White to join the Culper Ring--a secret group first assembled by George Washington during the Revolutionary War to protect his secrets and win the war--after Beecher stumbled upon a presidential secret. In The Fifth Assassin, the sequel, apparently (I haven’t read it yet) Tot was shot in the head and Beecher assumed his position as the head of what remained of the Culper Ring. In The President’s Shadow, this third installment in the Culper Ring series, Beecher “sneaks” into the White House only to discover they were waiting for him all along. The First Lady Shona Wallace unburies, while gardening, a severed arm that had been buried in the Rose Garden by a White House intruder. The president’s inner circle suspects it was done with inside help. In its closed fist, the severed arm is holding a penny with an inscription that ties it to Beecher’s personal history, or rather, that of his father’s service in the armed forces. Beecher needs the president to know more about his father and how he died. The president needs to keep the investigation under wraps and off the press. Who better than Beecher and his Culper Ring to investigate?I think this country is in real trouble if the Secret Service needs help from an archivist to solve a case like this, still I willingly went along for the ride.Count on Brad Meltzer to concoct a story where fact and fiction intertwine seamlessly and U.S. history is just part of the mix with such outlandish result that could very well be real. With small bite chapters and easy to read prose, The President's Shadow will breeze before your eyes.Secret government agencies, ultra secret government projects in off the grid locations, conspiracy theories...What's not to like?!Strongly recommend it.DISCLAIMER: I received from the publisher a free Galley of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
