Norbury Engaging, super-fast pacing (I read it in a day in two sittings), interesting read, timely topic but not over-the-top preachy about the subject of illegal whaling. Good goal for the MC and her agent partner. Sufficiently sinister bad guy. Exotic setting (if coastal Norway seems exotic to you. It does to me.) Style is light and breezy. Dialogue true-to-life real and believable for each character. What's not to like?An excellent read and a good sequel to the author's first book in the series. Only a slight negative for using too much hard-to-decipher dialogue for the Irish cook, Dylan. Figuring out what he was saying briefly took me out of the story. One other slight negative was enough mentions of coffee to make me think of Stieg Larsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." In that book, it seems like the characters were drinking coffee about every other page. In Poppy McVie, not nearly as much, but enough that I noticed. Maybe that's where she gets her non-stop energy. ;-)But highly recommended nonetheless. If you like cozy-style mystery/adventure/law enforcement reads, this one is well worth the money and time.

By Pamela Beason Poppy McVie is such a gutsy character--I love her dedication to braving danger to save wildlife. This story takes place in Norway, so with this book a reader gets an exciting outdoor adventure with Poppy's hunky partner thrown in to rev up the action, and a trip to Scandinavia as well! I've seen magnificent orcas in the wild, so I could really identify with Poppy's determination to nail the criminal who wants to capture them for show. As the author of eco-mysteries such as Endangered (A Sam Westin Mystery Book 1), I'm excited to find Kimberli A. Bindschatel. I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Action sequences verge on perfection By Erin Fanning In a continuation of the Poppy McVie mysteries, author Kimberli Bindschatel has once again combined humor, intrigue, and an always-entertaining heroine into an endless adventure through the black-market world of killer-whale hunting. Action sequences verge on perfection, taking the reader from clifftop paragliding to sailing among choppy Norwegian waters, and the edgy romance between Poppy and her partner Dalton continues with many tension-filled scenes. The story ends with the promise of another mystery in the works, and I'm looking very forward to reading it!

Side- splitting at regular intervals, tears as well. A great insight into the person behind the great voices. A highly accomplished page turner.

One of the voices behind pop's biggest stars By Stephen in CH Tessa Niles is one of the most-heard singers in the history of pop music but her name isn't particularly well known. As a backing singer, she has worked with the leading pop and rock artists of her generation both in the studio and at many of the defining concert performances in the history of contemporary pop (consider Live Aid and Eric Clapton's "Unplugged" sessions). Her memoir reads wonderfully and gives lots of insights into the unique world of the backup singer. The great ones (and Tessa has worked with almost all of them) aren't necessarily looking for stardom but focus instead on serving the song and the lead singer. She has stories about the artists she has performed with - David Bowie, Sting, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Tina Turner and more - but her honest descriptions of the challenges of maintaining family stability and a balance between her professional and private lives are among the most interesting parts of this well written book.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great book from one of the best backing vocalists in ... By Alexandr Britikov Great book from one of the best backing vocalists in british music scene of 80s and 90s. If you want clever and honest look inside the world of show business, this book is for you. Tessa gives you a good mix of her own private life and work life. She finds kind words for every artist she worked with and she worked with a lot of them! So, if you expecting some "yellow press" histories, scandals etc. you won't find it here. And it's really great in my opinion, because instead some cheap crap you will receive a lot of interesting stories from touring and recording and you will understand better what are bright and dark sides of working as professional artist. For me it was always interesting why Tessa never really tried to make solo career. She had great voice, singing versatility, she was beautiful at least. This book will give you answer. Tessa is some kind of "team player" in sport terms, she hasn't big ego, like most well known music stars and she really enjoys backing solo artists more than making her own stuff.

"One of the best books on the Grateful Dead." —Rolling StoneJust what was it about the Grateful Dead that made them rock and roll’s most beloved band? In Deadheads, those with the real story, who were there and are still listening to the music, explain it all.Grateful Dead lyricist John Perry Barlow talks about his lifelong friendship with Dead guitarist Bob Weir. Cajun chef Rick Begneaud shares his memories of feeding the Dead. John Popper of Blues Traveler recalls playing with the Dead at Bill Graham’s memorial tribute, while publicist Dennis McNally shares some wild adventures of working with the band for more than thirty years. Author Linda Kelly recalls being dragged to her very first Dead show, hanging with Jerry in New York City, and more.First-show revelations, backstage adventures, parking lot hoopla, how-to-live-life philosophies, strange tangential experiences stemming from being in that certain place at that certain time—these intriguing anecdotes evoke wonderful images, lots of smiles, and a close look into a fascinating phenomenon in the history of music. This twentieth-anniversary edition of Deadheads celebrates fifty years of music and includes the best stories from the original 1995 edition, two new chapters, as well as new interviews with various friends, artists, and followers of the Grateful Dead.

Deadheads: Stories from Fellow Artists, Friends & Followers of the Grateful Dead, by Linda Kelly

From Library Journal Former Spin magazine writer Kelly assembled anecdotes from over 30 Grateful Dead followers ranging from the famous (LSD guru Timothy Leary) to Grateful Dead associates (sometime lyricist John Perry Barlow) to "typical" fans. Their stories do little to explain the band's cultlike mystique and, disturbingly, often seem as concerned with past acid trips as they are with the group's music. A few stories are gems, but most inadvertently perpetuate the stereotype of Deadheads as superficial and sleazy. Photographs of the band and Deadheads in action are as bland as the text. If the recent death of head Dead Jerry Garcia is generating demand, try instead the reissued Grateful Dead: The Official Book of the Deadheads (LJ 8/83).?Lloyd Jansen, Stockton-San Joaquin Cty. The interviews are amazing. All kinds of regular nondescript Deadheads and their stories. One about going to Bill Grahams house for Christmas dinner and meeting Jerry and his entire family just months after his coma. Another about cooking Cajun at Bob's house and a detail account of Bobs mountain bike accident by the only eye-witness. This book will last way past all others in its relevancy. Thank you Linda.

Power, Politics & Society: An Introduction to Political Sociology discusses how sociologists have organized the study of politics into conceptual frameworks, and how each of these frameworks foster a sociological perspective on power and politics in society. This includes discussing how these frameworks can be applied to understanding current issues and other "real life" aspects of politics. The authors connect with students by engaging them in activities where they complete their own applications of theory, hypothesis testing, and forms of inquiry.

Exemplary Introductory Text for Political Sociology By Dean Matthew Braa This is an excellent survey for undergraduate students in political sociology. It is clearly written, i.e. readable forundergraduate students. There is a strong review of theories and concepts that focus on power in a givensociety and how power shapes the polity. I especially like the author's explanation/review of theories of the state. Also a good review of social movements theory. Dr. Dean Braa, Western Oregon University

America is now experiencing a cascade of events orchestrated to culminate in her fiery destruction. Those behind this evil conspiracy to destroy America want a New World Order to usher in the coming anti-Christ. Many of these orchestrated events all come to catastrophic fruition just as the military's Special Forces are initiating their "Jade Helm 15" exercises in the southwestern states. Now those who were warned of the coming financial collapse and that the Jade Helm 15 drill would go live then used to institute martial law are proven right. Those patriots and Christians who warned to prepare for all these perilous events are now considered America's most wanted terrorists, as they are hunted, robbed, imprisoned or exterminated. The true American patriots, former veterans, libertarians, and constitutionalists or any that oppose this oppressive regime must flee for their lives to survive the new government's genocidal plans. Now, what started out as an economic collapse and martial law scenario, quickly turns into a second civil war, as many within the system leave it, only to join forces with those that must fight against a world descending into evil chaos and insanity! America's foreign enemies all take advantage of the circumstances to attack during her vulnerable period, hoping to take their share of America's vast resources. Those trying to survive through these perilous times must learn to live by their faith in God, wits and strength in each other to escape those committed to their destruction.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. an annoying heroine By Sue Williams I have no idea why the hero has any interest in the heroine at all. She is shallow, vain and completely self centered, but we are supposed to believe the H is crazy about her. I am all for suspending belief in reading some stories, but this was too much of a stretch. The only person more irritating is her idiot brother. Will not be reading his story.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Another great SEAL novel by Cat Johnson! By LRC I have enjoyed all the Hot Seals books by Cat Johnson. She has created this close-knit group of SEALs, some of whom are retiring and beginning to work in their own company GAPS., which is realistically, slowly, getting off the ground. This story is about Chris, retired SEAL and friend of former SEAL Rick, who lives with his sister Darci. Chris has it bad for Darci but she only seems to see Sane, who has fallen, finally, for an old friend. Darcy thinks Chris is just a joker, a friend, until she accompanies him on a supposedly easy mission as his date cover, and sees him in action (both in and out of bed). Once they get together they sizzle, but she thinks he's not the commitment type. There's a scary yacht trip and then an ultimatum from Chris to Darci. Great story, continuing with the same great group of friends by the same great author. Well worth reading.

Review: Kissed by a SEAL By Jen Twimom Kissed by a SEAL is the fourth book in Ms. Johnson’s delightful Hot SEALs series, which follows the lives of former Navy SEAL teammates who have remained close friends. While each book is a standalone romance, almost all of the characters are featured in each of the stories, giving readers the opportunity to better know the players involved from the start.Darci Mann is the sister of former SEAL Rick, and often present when the guys get together. While she has long lusted after Zane (to his ignorance), she was a bit heartbroken when he found love with Missy (Book 2). Meanwhile, Chris Cassidy, retired SEAL, stood by and watched the woman he cared about give her attention to his friend who didn’t deserve it. Hiding his true feelings for Darci behind jokes and friendship, Chris never made a move.Kissed by a SEAL is another hit from Cat Johnson's sexy Hot SEALs series. Chris and Darci's story was exciting and sexy, especially when shared from his POV. The author does a wonderful job establishing Chris’s long standing feelings for Darcy, and it is laughable just how clueless she is. The fact that I've watched both individuals interact in previous books made their hookup more all the more satisfying. While the author does an amazing job sharing how much Chris cares for Darci, I wanted more time to see Darci’s change of heart from being caught up on the wrong guy to realizing she cared about Chris. I wished that transition would have started earlier in the book so that I would have had more time with the pair as a couple. With that said, I still enjoyed their romance. Additionally, watching GAPS (the group’s private security firm) begin to take off and see a mission was satisfying. I look forward to reading more about the team and would love to go back and revisit the couples who are just starting out in their fledgling relationships. Overall, Kissed by a SEAL is an entertaining, sexy romance. My Rating: B+ Liked It A LotOriginally posted at That's What I'm Talking AboutReview copy provided by author.

Ronald Leslie's story: a story of bravery By A Customer As Henty points out in his preface it is perhaps better that Prince Charles' attempt to win back his father's throne failed. For if the end of the battle had been different at Culloden it "might have been followed in time by another revolution, another expulsion of the Stuarts..." The hero in this story is Ronald Leslie, who as a young child is smuggled out of France, and from out of the clutches of the king of France. For Ronald's father, a young soldier, had married the daughter of Marquis de Recambours. The Marquis is a noble who objected strongly to his daughter's association with a common soldier, and in fact was not even told of what had taken place. When the Marquis learned what his daughter had done, she was shut up in a convent and Colonel Leslie was put in a dungeon. Ronald grows up in the household of Andrew and Janet Anderson, whose brother had escaped with Ronald out of France. Suspicions are aroused against Ronald when he warns a Jacobite leader of the police who are coming to get him. But Ronald manages to keep out of farther trouble, with Andrew's help. Time goes on, and before long Ron and Malcolm are off to find out if Ron's father is still alive, and to see about rescuing him and his wife. But danger threatens, and after dueling with Duke of Chateaurouge Ronald must fly. So it is that the two become mixed up in Prince Charles fight for the throne of James the second. This is an exciting story, and also an excellent history lesson about Britain's history.
