By AnnieInSpringfield UPDATE: This calendar has officially been relegated to scratch pad status. IMO, labeling this calendar as "women's humor" is false advertising. I've ordered a different one.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Some of the cartoons/jokes are very juvenile and/or crude (i.e., "farts"; Cupid mooning people instead of shooting arrows). They are out of place in a product promoted as "women's humor" -- more appropriate for "5th grader humor". I've had one or two laughs (i.e., "I could have been wonder woman ... A Cowboy Christmas: An American Tale is a novel of Western fiction for all ages. Masterfully crafted, the story explores the lore of the Western frontier when it was imagined to be as big and far away as the moon.

The tale begins just beyond the far bank of the Mississippi, when the Stars and Bars were in tattered threads, and sweeps across Arizona and New Mexico Territories, westward to California gold.

WB, not yet 16, crosses the mighty river without fear and leaves the muddy shores of civilization behind. With empty pockets, a spark for life, and a wild sense of freedom, he follows his heart, searching for adventure and fortune in a new world. Experiencing the harsh realities of the Great Plains, WB meets the love of his life, Ginny. As they are falling in love, and as fate has it, they are separated by a hostile encounter. When WB awakes, Ginny is gone.

Crisscrossing the West in search of each other, WB and Ginny experience the perils of a wild frontier and a Western theater of unraveling characters. Their tale unfolds with close encounters and near misses. Overcoming the hardships of staying alive and enduring the challenges of a vast landscape - their destiny - bound by love and loyalty is tested. Ginny and WB come alive, discovering their own identities.

An American tale rich in history and vivid word pictures is told in a cowboy's flavorful soup of words with wit, grit, and humor - an inspiring adventure of discovery, strength, character, and romance.

By Amazon Customer I received this book as a gift from a really close friend. It was even autographed! (Cool signature by the way). I decided to give it a read on my flight home. A young man heads west to carve out his path and a new life. The adventures he has along the way are quite incredible! I was told there is a lot of historic truth to the towns he traveled along the way which made it even more interesting. His romantic interest has quite the adventure herself, and can hold her own. I almost read it in an entire sitting, but had to take a break because it was so rich in dialog. Some chapters are short and they really pack a punch. Thanks Mark for this gift. Our friendship means a lot.

Truncale Even though I was born and raised in a big city, like a lot of young American boys I dreamed of being a cowboy. This classic (A Cowboy Christmas: An American Tale by Tom Vandyke) is a story about a young man who hits the trail with the goal of discovering the wild west and be coming a cowboy. Along the way he winds up for a short time with a family in a wagon who are also going west. This family has a beautiful daughter named Ginny. Our young cowboy becomes smitten with Ginny and loses her along the trail. For the next three years our young cowboy drifts westward learning how to be a cowboy along with many life lessons. He is still trying to find out where his true love Ginny is located. I never give away too much in a novel and spoil it for the reader. If you love down home writing and a great cowboy story I strongly recommend this book. This 110 page text is organized into 22 delightful short stories and a fantastic ending. The writer really makes you feel like you are on the open range sitting in the saddle next to our romantic cowboy. An absolutely great read.If you love cowboy stories you will love this one.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: The Samurai Soul: An old warrior's poetic tribute).

First time author, VanDyke, spins a delightful narrative of the old West as told through the eyes of a young cowpoke, WB. A love story weaves its way through the well researched and developed account of living life in the rugged Old West of the late 1870s. I look forward to the next book from this new author who shows a great deal of promise.

Uneasy lies the head. In just a few months, Alacrity Fitzhugh and Hobart Floyt had claimed Hobart's inheritance from the ruler of a small interstellar empire then returned to Earth and toppled its government. They'd also become good friends. But Alacrity had more important goals than bodyguarding Hobart - he wanted command of the fabulous White Ship, the starship designed to track down the secrets of the ancient and powerful Precursor aliens. Yet it took only a few minutes at the White Ship's helm for Alacrity to learn that a captain's problems can be tougher than the "real work" of a knockabout Spacer - and that solving them could cost a piece of his heart.

By A Customer In this, Daley's third installment of the "Adventures of Hobart Floyt and Alacrity Fitzhugh" (following _Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds_ and _Jinx on a Terran Inheritance_), we go beyond the scope of the original books into the past of Alacrity Fitzhugh--including his real name, his "Captain's Sidearm", and his obsession with the Precursors, an uber-race that has disappeared from the Cosmos--but not before leaving tantalizing technological clues. Much of the story takes place on an inhospitable planet as Floyt, Fitzhugh, and a female companion fight nature to reach an important meeting for the eponymous White Ship of the title. Enjoyable--but it leaves some unanswered questions, which, alas, will now remain that way with Daley's passing.

Highly recommended; fun and funny By Ken Coar Book 3 of the chronicles of Hobart Floyt and Alacrity Fitzhugh The third and final novel in the Hobart Floyt and Alacrity Fitzhugh series, following 'Requiem for a Ruler of Worlds' and 'Jinx on a Terran Inheritance.' It continues the chronicle of the madcap adventures of this odd couple, in the same fast-paced, free-wheeling, and thoroughly enjoyable style as the first two. It, too, can stand on its own -- but is more enjoyable if one is steeped in the wonder and hilarious hysteria of the preceding titles. I consider it a significant tragedy that Brian Daley died of cancer in 1996 before he could continue the stories (if such was indeed his intention). Requiescat en pace, mon ami. 'G'-rated according to me. I consider the content of this book to be suitable reading for all ages.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Loved It. By Glen Martinez I must say I have waited years to find and read this book. I was rewarded for the wait, I will say it ran alittle long in the middle but tied the ends of the other two books in this trilogy together. I just wish Brian Daley had lived to continue this as Alcarity and Hobart are well worth reading.

Suppose you had a fully armed and cloaked Klingon bird of prey. What would you do with it? Meet Dane Corey, a former Star Fleet captain highly decorated for bravery at the Battle of Thos but now drummed out of the service in disgrace after assaulting Admiral Riker, who directed that battle. Now making his living as a gambler, he is on his way to the distant planet Ganymede for reasons unknown, his only possession a letter in his tunic pocket against his opponent, William Riker. Meet his ship, the Orion Queen, a fully equipped B‘rel class Klingon scout ship now registered as a Ferengi vessel and outfitted for smuggling. Follow the mystery of not only how Captain Corey acquires her but how a civilian ship can possibly be legally equipped with disrupter cannons, torpedoes, and a cloaking device with Star Fleet’s full knowledge and without their interference. Meet his crew, a complete cast of total misfits that range from a Ferengi boy practicing the Rules of Acquisition, a Borian She Devil looking to steal the ship and willing to kill to anyone do it, a sniveling coward of a professor of no known degrees motivated entirely by greed, and a failed Star Fleet engineer last assigned to a garbage scow. And meet the world of “dime novels”. First introduced in 1860, dime novels were short stories of mystery and frontier adventure that proved to be the most popular reading of their time. They formed the basis for radio shows like “War of the World’s” and TV westerns like “The Rifleman” and “Gun Smoke”. This book series follows that success by using space exploration as the new frontier and the animosity between Corey and Riker as the mystery. What really did happen at the Battle of Thos? Where did the Orion Queen come from? And where is Captain Corey taking her? And who will stop him first? Admiral Riker or his own crew? Find out what happens when Captain Corey commands the finest ship with the worst crew in the entire universe and with Star Fleet right behind.

The voyage of the Peggy Sue continues under the command of Captain Billy Ray Vincent. The story resumes a year after the events on the deadly planet Paradise, chronicled in book one, Ghosts of Orion. The Peggy Sue has gone farther away from Earth than any human built ship, “almost one hundred light-years as the crow flies,” as Captain Vincent observed. After stopping to fill up on deuterium at an icy moon circling an unnamed planet of an insignificant remnant of a dead star, the Captain decides to head back to Earth and home. On the way they pass through Alpha Phoenicis, a binary star system in the constellation of the phoenix. There they receive a signal that could only have come from an artifact of the T'aafhal, the mysterious vanished alien race whose actions thrust humanity onto the galactic stage. They immediately change course for the signal's point of origin—a small planet orbiting a red dwarf that is the companion star to the system's main orange giant. What they don't know is that they are about to find themselves in the midst of an interplanetary invasion, and an ambush by an undetectable Dark Lord ship that strands Mizuki on the planet's surface. A raging battle for succession among the natives is complicated by meddling “daemons” from another planet in the system. The Queen's Daemon is the second book of the T'aafhal Legacy series, the sequel to the popular T'aafhal Inheritance trilogy.

The Queen's Daemon (T'aafhal Legacy Book 2), by Doug L Hoffman

From the Author The Queen's Daemon follows the further adventures of the crew of the Peggy Sue, Earth's first star ship and now an armed merchant ship exploring the Orion Arm for the Orion Arm Trading Company. A year has passed since the events retold in the first book of this series, Ghosts of Orion, and Captain Billy Ray Vincent and company are a hundred light-years from home. I wanted to show that the Galaxy is a big place and the earthlings' ship a small bastion of life in the vastness of space. The same human impulse to explore, to push further into the unknown, that drove people during the age of sail drives the crew of the Peggy Sue.After refueling on an ice moon in an unnamed star system they head back toward Earth, thinking they have little to show for a year in space. Transiting the Alpha Phoenicis system their plans are changed when they receive a message that could only have come from a T'aafhal installation. They head for the planet where the signal originated, hoping to find valuable information regarding the long vanished T'aafhal, the alien race who thrust humanity and their polar bear companions into a galactic war that has been raging for millions of years. Arriving at the alien planet things spin out of control as war rages in space and on the surface. In the previous book, I gave my central characters--Billy Ray, Beth, Mizuki, Bobby, and the others--a short break from having to fight malicious aliens. I used Ghosts to more fully establish the relationships among the officers and crew, while introducing a number of new characters who will figure into the larger series story arc. The Queen's Daemon is a return to the central themes of the T'aafhal Legacy series: humans exploring a hostile galaxy; the constant threat posed by the Dark Lords and their minions; the quest to find out what happened to the T'aafhal, why they tampered with humanity's destiny and then vanished. For those who missed the space battles and alien combat of the T'aafhal Inheritance novels, this book should satisfy those longings. Not only do the Dark Lords return to imperil our heroes, but they have fomented an interplanetary war among two less developed alien races. The earthlings are caught in the crossfire and have to quickly figure out how to deal with alien weapons they have never encountered before, while some members of the crew crash on the planet where the T'aafhal artifact is hidden. In some ways Mizuki is the central character of this book, for she ends up on a knight's quest, the type of adventure she had always dreamed about. In the end, the four central characters solidify their relationships and are forged into a team that is ready and willing to pursue the mystery that haunts all mankind--what happened to the T'aafhal? But that is a tale for the next book in the series. My characters and I are in this for the long haul, I hope you will be as well.

From the Back Cover The others rose and quickly exited the cabin, anxious to get on with the needed repairs. The door slid shut, leaving Bobby and Billy Ray alone for the first time since before the enemy engagement."How're you holding up, pardner?"Bobby looked his friend directly in the eye."I'm OK, been too busy to think about it.""We're going to get her back.""Yeah, but first we've got to repair the ship and neutralize the alien threat. I understand, Billy Ray, I've had a ship of my own.""Sure thing, Bobby. I just wanted to make sure you knew we're going after Mizuki and the others. We don't leave our own behind."Bobby smiled wanly."Damn straight, Captain. So let's fix the ship, kill us some aliens, and then go find my girl."

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a rare gem of exploration By Bryan Jorgensen I love SF novels. However, lately I have run into poorly edited battle books that all seem to be the same. Then I tried Mr Hoffmans Ghost of Orion. I loved it and then read this sequel ... The second of the series. These are stories of exploration. A brave group of brilliant friends embracing the unknown. They are not battle books. Laced within the novels are both famous and obscure quotations. Fun references to past Sci Fi greats and truly thought provoking grammar. I enthusiastically endorse both these books which should be read in sequence. I cannot wait for the Peggy Sue II and it's voyage of exploration to the Pleisades star system. Thank you Mr Hoffman

The action flowed very well in my opinion and I kept wanting more and more, so as a result I finished the book rather quickly. Now, I just have to wait for the next book in the series. Which I might add will be difficult to do with any level of patience. Seriously, the book was very well written, very few spelling or grammar errors to trip you up while reading. Enough back story has been inserted that I want to get the previous sets just to get up to speed with all the key players.

After writing the other books, meh has come out with another sequel to his other books. It is a most enjoyable and fun reads, that you can find. It is a book that you want to never set down. I just wish that he could write the coming sequels sooner. I love all the characters that he brings to life. I would hope that I get on the preferred list of those who get the new books first. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When the feisty and fiery Olivia Pavarotti left her home in Ames, Iowa to meet her fiancé in the Cook Islands, she never expected she'd find herself instead that very same evening bobbing on the open sea in a life raft with a complete stranger. When Navy Seal Commander Zackariah Steele set out on his vacation from Coronado for Aitutaki, he never expected to be suddenly trying to survive on a deserted, uncharted tropical island with a snotty, sarcastic redheaded Iowa reporter, either. Then just when rescue seems possible, "unfriendlies" prove their island might not be so deserted after all. Can two total strangers -- and two polar opposites -- manage to keep each other alive long enough for help to arrive? Can Olivia and Zack hide from those unfriendlies until the rescuers find them? Or will they end up killing each other simply because of their own differences? Find out in this hilariously fun romantic thriller of two people thrown together by circumstance -- but brought together by fate -- in the newest book by R.T. Graham, "Isle of OZ".

By Gloria Antypowich I read this book in 3 hours after I went to bed one night—I was still smiling after I shut off my light to go to sleep.I’m certain any male would have been tempted to throw Olivia Pavarotti back into the ocean, when he realised how snooty and downright rude she was. He had found her unconscious in the water and pulled her into his life boat after the plane they were riding in crashed.Navy Seal Commander Zackariah Steele has dealt with many women but never one like Olivia. She does not seem to grasp the seriousness of their situation and she shows no appreciation for the fact that he saved her life. She refuses to “take orders” from him when he tells her to eat the raw tuna that he has caught, even though he impresses upon her that it will save her life. He disgust grows and he quickly begins to give back jab for jab to her sarcasm and nasty attitude. The handsome Navy Seal and the feisty reporter from Iowa rubbed each other the wrong way for days, even after their raft finally washed up on a deserted island. She scoffs as he deflates the raft, and his lifejacket and then uses a branch to brush away all signs of their footprints as they make their way to the treeline. She is certain that help will arrive any minute and she wants to be out in the open to make sure they are found. He is well trained and totally aware of the possible dangers. Finally he gets it through her head that all of the people on the plane died when it plunged into the ocean, and it is highly possible that when the remains are found it will be assumed that any missing bodies were carried away by the currents.Shocking events happen that change her attitude. She begins to respect his judgement and then she begins to acknowledge how attractive he is. He has been aware of her other more desirable attributes for days—she isn’t all smart mouth: but he still knows it’s wisest to keep things hands off. This is a clean read, filled with temptation. There is also mystery and danger- and I couldn’t help but chuckle at the impossible way they related to each other.I wondered about the Title—the Isle of OZ—thinking of the Wizard of Oz, or something like that, but it didn’t fit. I found the reason the island was named The Isle of OZ endearing. If you love a funny romantic tale that revolves around people who are so opposite that they would be more apt to kill each other than fall in love don’t miss this read!

I sincerely hope that she was not based on a real person. That personality... like nails on a chalk board.I also felt that the romance between the two main characters was extremely shallow. The man hated her (with good reason), until he saw her walking around half naked. Then suddenly she became his soulmate.Seriously? And the reason she was running around in lace underwear? Because she was too fluffin stupid to pull her pants out of the fire after knocking them in.That little plot device made zero sense at any rate. Her pants were soaking wet from a swim in the ocean. It's not possible that they instantly caught on fire. At worst there might have been scorch marks. Most likely they would have only steamed a bit before she rescued them.I do not think this author realizes who her audience is. Most women who read these types of romance novels aren't interested in a heroine who acts like a spoiled 5 year old half the time (worse in many cases), appears to have the intelligence of a raisin, runs around half naked for most of the story, and giggles like a imbecile at her own (terrible) jokes.
