Some favors just have to be repaid, so when his old commander asks Mike Reardon to go into the jaws of hell, Afghanistan, to rescue a couple of his guys, private contractors, Mike can't say no. Of course a payoff of several million makes the task more tempting. But this time Mike will have to use all the Corps taught him, plus some dirty tricks of his own to get anyone out alive. MartinMike Reardon is no novice when it comes to the perils of war. State side, he is now in the process of forming a team behind the scenes to return to the battle field. Tough guys like himself...former military men around the age of forty, ready to walk away from their lives at a moment's notice to take the law into their own in order to complete a mission. Their names...Skip, Killer, TooBad, BeBe, Pax, and Mike Reardon himself heading up the team. Lots of money involved.....plenty of risk. Can they do the job that they have set out to do? Time will tell. Moxie, murder, and mayhem make up the graphic plot as these gutsy guys become the motley crew and follow through on the plan...Add the gorgeous Sophia McAmber to the mix and you've got one great adventurous story. Spoiler alert for those who don't want to know whats actually in the book. This one starts with Mike Reardon at home in Vegas getting a 3AM call from and old friend. Commander Scroder.Scroder was one of the panel members at Reardon's court martial.Reardon and his squad of Force Recon marines raided a house where the male family members were busy stoning a couple of young girls to death. Their crime was in speaking to Reardon, the infidel. The males made the mistake of swinging guns towards Reardon's squad and they happily cleaned house. One of the dead was an Iraqi Major General, hence Reardon's court martial.Scroder argued with the other men on the panel and Reardon was given a General Discharge which beats the hell out a Dishonorable Discharge and breaking rocks at Leavenworth.Reardon pulled Scroders son out of a drug mess and the kid is now a George Washington University educated DC attorney. One good turn deserves another.Scroder runs Blackthorne a private security firm. He had a crew in Afghanistan and they were attacked. Six men were killed and two were taken hostage. There is also talk of a backpack nuke. The dirtbags want fifteen million dollars for the return of the Blackthorn men.Reardon gets his team and they head for Atlanta and from there to Italy. Mikes best friend Pax hasn't fully recovered so Mike tells him he can't go but he can go to Malta to man the computers. Pax is pissed but he knows he's not physically able to go so computers it is.The team is Skip Allen, Mikes 6'5" Marine Force recon buddy, BeBe Gunter an ex Navy SEAL, Henry Hausemen, Juarez and Micheals are all three ex Delta. Reardon has one helluva team to head into Afghanistan. Looks like he's headed for sand land one more time.So begins another damned fine read by Martin. This one has Mike, Skip, the team, Commander Scroder, Scroders neice Sophia McAmber, a Pax and Taj in Malta, an interpreter, the death of one team member, DVP's, the Afghan Army, a backpack nuke, a race through the desert, helicopters, a couple of dirtbags named Zazia and Akhmed, a raid on a complex just outside of Mazar-I-Sharif, a Govt that wants no part of rescuing private contractors and don't believe the info about the nuke, more hostages than planned for, a running battle across the desert a side trip by Mike and Pax to settle accounts with the Albanian who bombed Pax's Vegas headquarters killed three employee and damned near killed Pax and Mike Reardon and his team getting it done.Five Stars again.

Bring It On By Mary Gramlich Mike Reardon is never one to turn his back on any one in need but especially those who were had his back during his time in the service. So when an old commander calls and asks him to form a team to do a rescue mission, even knowing where they were going, Mike says be there as soon as I can.So with his team formed and orders in hand Mike heads for Afghanistan to do a complicated but well a laid out search and rescue, or so he thought. But with any Op Mike knows you always expect the worst and in dealing with Afghanistan you know to anticipate the evil and that is exactly what he finds. The group digs in and does their job but with one surprise after another always changing the plan on the fly becomes straining and beyond difficult even for this seasoned veteran.Knowing the job will get done is not the issue the struggle is how many good men have to go down in order to deal with a mindset that believes in victory at any cost. Mike knows what he is dealing with but at times he still struggles with trying to sort out the normal from the demented as taking a life is not his objective but always an option. As the group goes from one location to another in an effort to tie up loose ends and get the job done Mike figures out where his team is solid and where he needs to shore up some slack all the while plotting the next step to bring down the bad guys and bring home a victory for the great ones.
