Each volume focuses its attention on an individual film and has pages of publicity material used to promote the film during its initial run (and often re-releases).The 9 short films featured in this volume (7 of them Laurel & Hardy) were all produced by Hal Roach and include THICKER THAN WATER (1935), BERTH MARKS (1929), COME CLEAN (1931)... as well as BEAU HUNKS (1931), PERFECT DAY (1929), BLOTTO (1930) and COUNTY HOSPITAL (1932).This booklet (it wouldn't be fair to call it a book) features re-printed posters, newspaper clippings, lobby cards, interviews and adverts which were published during the film's initial and re-release runs. This volume has some exquisite lobby cards (particularly in the case of BLOTTO).Each issue has a glossy cover, and approximately 11x8.5" in size.This volume is 72 pages, of which 48 pages are used for actual material from these films; which also included publicity material on the Charley Chase short, THE NICKEL NURSER (an additional 4 pages) and the Our Gang short, SHIVER MY TIMBERS (a whole 6 pages).THE OPINONSIt is quite a brave undertaking by the author to put these volumes together in the manner he is. There is hope that the interest in this work may stimulate future publications from an author with a good reputation within the Laurel & Hardy community. The work herein has been collected over a long period of time by a dedicated author, whose previous works are moulded in the same style of presentation. As the set of issues continues to be expanded, this would make a nice addition to the bookshelf of any fan.With this volume you are getting nine films for the price of one, and all for the same price. That alone should act as the incentive to consider a purchase and to keep the publications coming.
