Ex CIA agent Evan Hernandez knows the odds of seeing a kidnaping victim again and alive, no less, is about zero. When a family friend is kidnapped in Juarez and his brother asks him to be his alibi so he can travel to pay the ransom, Evan proposes to go in his place. After all, he has nothing to lose. Perhaps through his own sacrifice he will finally find redemption. In Mexico, Evan stumbles quite literally into a conflict between an ambitious cartel leader with a desire to reshape Mexico and a government sponsored mercenary outfit run by an ex-CIA agent from Evan's past. Dark Cloud's mission is to create a vacuum, destroy the Eastern Cartel and control the remaining crime syndicates. Evan finds himself immersed once again into a life he knows too well, the same life of deceit and danger that cost him his family decades earlier in Columbia. Silver Lead and Dead takes you on a journey into the terrifying world of the narco. Mexico is collapsing. The leader of Dark Cloud uses two ghosts from Evan's past to recruit him, a mission involving a submarine sale, and the man who killed his family.

Review "Vince Flynn fans will adore this hugely satisfying action thriller about the redemption of an ex-CIA operative in the badlands of Mexico." BestThrillers.comSilver, Lead and Dead is a fast-paced action thriller that adopts the tried-and-tested manner of some of the biggest action authors and then takes events a step further as the plot becomes steeped in the protagonist's own murky past and questionable life choices. From the Author Silver Lead and Dead takes you on a journey into the world of the 'Narco'. Drug trafficking, politics, and ambitious characters fight to control Mexico as it slowly slips into a 'Narco state'. Many of the themes in Silver Lead and Dead are taken from the true Chaos in Mexico. Cartels engage in every endeavor imaginable from the kidnapping of children for organs, to sex trafficking to stealing natural resources like oil, coal and even uranium. Vigilante groups in Mexico have indeed begun to rise up as the police, many of which work for the cartels, are doing less to protect the citizens. A portion of the proceeds from this book will go to the A21 campaign, a non profit that helps prevent human trafficking.Hope you read it, hope you enjoy it!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Fun By A. Harvey I found the book to be straightforward and well written, with excellent storytelling. The pacing of the story is excellent. It is a long book, but it keeps moving at a brisk pace, and readers will not feel bogged down by the size of it. Where the action is intense, it is very intense. Where it is funny, it is very funny. The internal monologues of the characters give time between the action scenes for readers to slow their hearts a bit and catch their breath. The storytelling here is exceptional and natural.

Vazquez Great, fast paced action thriller along the lines of Vince Flynn. Main character Evan, haunted by his CIA past is pulled into an under the radar ransom/rescue in Mexico. As life would have it nothing is what is seems and it will take all of his skills to navigate the harsh realities of the corrupt and lawless element that are the real power in Mexico. Almost as enjoyable as the story line itself are the facts/culture-interwoven thru out the story showing how our southern neighbor has descended into chaos at the hands Mexican Drug Cartels...sad but true commentary on today. Make sure to read the Author's Note at the end of the book as he lists some news headlines and links that make for interesting reading as well as his website.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Has an Action/Adventure Movie Quality to it By You can call me Lynn This is a mystery/thriller with a touch of Military and International Intrigue. In the beginning, Evan is attempting to come to terms with a past even his own brother, Jack, didn't know about. However, Jack's needs outweigh his own so he shares some secrets in order to keep Jack safe from harm. Evan went to Mexico to help Jack's housekeeper's father. That trip led him almost full circle back to the past he hoped to leave behind. This story has lots of plot twist and turns. According to the author some of the events in the book are based on things that actually happened. To me, the way Mr. Garmisch put them together was seamless and plausible. In some ways had a action/adventure movie quality to it.Warning: This book is for Mature Audiences due to moderate graphic violence, adult language, sexual situations. There is also illegal drug use and human trafficking which may be offensive to some people.Disclaimer: I found this book on Reading Deals Review Club list and was provided a copy for free in exchange for an honest review.
