Declan Farrell, earl of Dungannon and the famous highwayman known as “the Gypsy,” is about to have his heart stolen by the very woman he intends not to marry. STAND AND DELIVER Declan Farrell, earl of Dungannon and the son of the duke of Arlington, is a nobleman of the highest order, dissolute and a thief. He is a drinker and a lover, and at night he is “the Gypsy,” a highwayman who prowls from the city of Boreas to Chappendale Forest. And yet, his heart is true. Impelled by a tragic past, he steals from the rich and gives to the poor, offers hope to those who cannot fight their fate. So much was taken from him, which is why he gives. He himself is undeserving of love and happiness, but there are those who are worthy, like Lady Althea Standfield, daughter to the duke of Oxmoor. Independent and kind, beautiful and smart, she must be freed from the obligation of marrying him. His heart might be stolen by a woman of such fine form and finer character...but his heart is all that he has left, and it is perfectly protected.

Hot Gypsy meets Robin Hood By Boundries Moonlight Rider ReviewI received and ARC for an honest ReviewMoonlight Rider by Charlotte Boyett-Compo Review5 StarsI liked this book from beginning to end! It has a spin of Robin Hood and I love it! We get to meet Declan aka “Gypsy” who robs the rich and gives to the poor in historical times. I think we all need a man like Declan who is willing to give up his life and give back to the poor. I like that in a guy.I did fall in love with Declan and Alethea in this book and fell in love with secondary characters as well. This book is well written for a historical time piece and I loved it. I like historical time pieces and being able to transport back to those times and live through the characters. You will enjoy this book and go on an emotional ride with laughing, crying, and just feeling what the characters are feeling. I don’t see this in many books these days or don’t feel it but this book really brought out emotions in me.You will also love Jack and Declan, they are laugh out loud funny and it’s great when you can laugh out loud with a book when you are reading. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for fun in historical times.

Like historical romance By Sonja Tilton Like historical romance? rogues all mysterious ...who ride in on magnificent stallions, all dressed in black? a good heist with a twist? Then oh yes Declan is for you. The alpha male of the story likes to dance with trouble, whether in it, or causing it.... But what is the fun and excitement of life if you don't push the envelope a little bit once in awhile.... It makes you wonder, what is Declan going to do to finally get himself caught? It seems inevitable.Of course you also have a dad who wants to marry his son off to a woman who he doesn't want to marry. You have a woman who is determined to make Declan hers in the most intimate way possible, another woman who has the same designs... and both are bold enough to go after the man they want! This is perhaps not what you would expect from most women of historic era. It makes the story more interesting though. Who will he choose...the women who want him? The woman Declan's father has strategically paired Declan off with? now I can't tell of course, that would just ruin the story. No spoilers! But this tale brings plenty of intrigue that's for sure. And that is what I like about this book. The women in it have back bones, the story constantly moves, never stalling at a particular point in time and you have lots of side characters who bring more flavor and intrigue to the main plot. It's a story you can easily visualize and plot out in your head what the scene and characters look like and are doing. A good read for those who want a naughty trip back in time!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It surprised me, kept me on my toes, and it was never boring. By A Hopeless Romantic's Booklandia I'm not quite sure how or what all I feel for Moonlight Rider. I was excited to read about the dangerous highwayman with the tortured soul and it started off great, I was really into the book, but then we came to this huge plot twist and it messed me up. If there had been some warning, I think it would've made reading the book a little easier and a lot less confusing for me. Everything was colored by the twist and it was hard for me to enjoy reading most of Moonlight Rider. I do know I loved the ending, but I can't say for sure whether or not I love it when I think about it as a whole, but I definitely don't hate it.The first thought I had when I met Declan Farrell was pretty much OMG! He's just like Robin Hood! and I thought he was just awesome. I thought I would love him just like that, but I didn't and I still don't. I don't like the way he is with Aleatha for most of the book, he doesn't treat her right, and he ends up being a jerk even though I know most of the time he wasn't trying to be for cruel reasons. Declan is truly a great guy with great qualities, but my loyalty was with Aleatha and his behavior just overshadowed his goodness with me and made me dislike him. I liked him when he finally stopped being an idjut as his awesome best friend, Jack, would call him and realized he loved Aleatha, but he's still definitely not my favorite person. Now while I'm not too fond of Declan, I absolutely LOVE Lady Aleatha! She surprised me from the moment I met her and she is an amazing heroine! She's witty, strong, determined, sweet, devoted, and loyal. I can't tell you all she does for Declan, but I can tell you she's selfless, loves him with everything she is, and she's just the best person in the book. Aleatha is by far my favorite, but there were quite a few characters that I loved a lot too!!Moonlight Rider is full of danger, steam, heartache, and many twists and turns. It confused me, angered me, and made me ache, but it did make me laugh and smile too. It turned out to be more than I originally thought it would be, it surprised me, kept me on my toes, and it was never boring. I didn't particularly love it because I couldn't enjoy most of it, but I would definitely want to read another Charlotte Boyett-Compo historical or any of her books again. I can't say if I would read this book knowing what I know now, but that's more to do with my own issues than because the book wasn't good - it was and I do think it's worth the read because it really does make me you feel.Moonlight Rider is a standalone, it's told from multiple points of view, and it does end in a HEA.~ Sonja, 5 Stars

THE MAN WAS RIGHT Though they kept them out of sight for the most part, nearly every group making the move was carrying arms of some type. That included Percy and his crew. Percy, Andy, Jim, and Bob stood near the former roadblock with their HK-91 rifles held at the ready until every last person, vehicle, and animal was well past it. The Indian and the two Rokons had been offloaded from the trailer and were parked near the Hummers. Being constantly on guard wasn’t easy but then again ever since the nukes started flying and martial law was imposed travel of any kind was risky. Unfortunately, staying put was not an option, not if they intended to complete Percy’s Mission.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Prepper-centric By Degas I weed through a great many offerings here at Amazon, looking for stories centered around prepping. There's not that much prepper fiction out there. I've read most of it. Some of it reads like a textbook, but is published like fiction."Percy's Mission" sits somewhere between good fiction and a good prepper handbook. I couldn't give it that 5th star because this edges over from reality into fantasy. Without giving the story away, the main protagonist sits on a section of land and has every doodad, gizmo and whatchamacallit you can think of to be prepared for just about anything. The reason I like it, is that the author actually knows how all the doodad's work and how they would contribute to a "grid-down" TEOTWAWKI scenario. I get the impression that Mr. Young has hands-on experience with a lot of this equipment.I think he's writing about his fantasy farm, and how he would build and equip it to survive and prosper, even if the unthinkable should happen. Of course, he could just be a damned good researcher. Either way, it's a worthwhile expenditure of time to read it. Oh, and the story that's used as the vehicle is also pretty good.

A tribute to the late great science fiction icon Poul Anderson, and a wonderful collection of stories by some of the genres top writers! Authors include Tad Williams, Terry Brooks, Greg Bear, Raymond Feist, Larry Niven, and Eric Flint.Poul Anderson was one of the seminal figures of 20th century science fiction. Named a Grand Master by the SFWA in 1997, he produced an enormous body of stand-alone novels (Brain Wave, Tau Zero) and series fiction (Time Patrol, the Dominic Flandry books) and was equally at home in the fields of heroic fantasy and hard SF. He was a meticulous craftsman and a gifted storyteller, and the impact of his finest work continues, undiminished, to this day.  Here is a rousing, all-original anthology that stands both as a significant achievement in its own right and a heartfelt tribute to a remarkable writerand equally remarkable man. A nicely balanced mixture of fiction and reminiscence, this volume contains thirteen stories and novellas by some of today's finest writers, along with moving reflections by, among others, Anderson's wife, Karen, his daughter, Astrid Anderson Bear, and his son-in-law, novelist and co-editor Greg Bear. (Bear's introduction, "My Friend Poul," is particularly illuminating and insightful.) The fictional contributions comprise a kaleidoscopic array of imaginative responses to Anderson's many and varied fictional worlds. A few of the highlights include Nancy Kress's "Outmoded Things" and Terry Brooks' "The Fey of Cloudmoor," stories inspired by the Hugo Award-winning "The Queen of Air and Darkness"; a pair of truly wonderful Time Patrol stories ("A Slip in Time" by S. M. Stirling and "Christmas in Gondwanaland" by Robert Silverberg); Raymond E. Feist's Dominic Flandry adventure, "A Candle"; and a pair of very different homages to the classic fantasy novel, Three Hearts and Three Lions: "The Man Who Came Late" by Harry Turtledove and "Three Lilies and Three Leopards (And a Participation Ribbon in Science)" by Tad Williams. These stories, together with singular contributions by such significant figures as Larry Niven, Gregory Benford, and Eric Flint, add up to a memorable, highly personal anthology that lives up to the standards set by the late—and indisputably great—Poul Anderson.

Honoring by Exploring Poul Anderson’s Worlds By A Customer Multiverse: Exploring Poul Anderson’s WorldsGreg Bear and Gardner Dozois (editors)Baen, Jun 2 2015, $15.00ISBN: 9781476780597This excellent anthology achieves its objective of paying homage to one of the great twentieth century speculative fiction writers whose works crossed into science fiction, fantasy and a combo. Well written earnest essays like those authored by his widow Karen Anderson on how they met at an early 1950s convention and his son-in-law Greg Bear on entering his life through marrying his daughter humanize the late grandmaster. Thirteen short stories provide readers with a return to Mr. Anderson’s myriad of mesmerizing worlds. I enjoyed the Anderson realms starting with a visit to Hugo Award winning “The Queen of Air and Darkness” (see “Outmoded Things” by Nancy Kress and “The Fey of Cloudmoor” by Terry Brooks); and accompanying the Time Patrol (see “A Slip in Time” by S. M. Stirling and “Christmas in Gondwanaland” by Robert Silverberg). My personal favorite is Eric Flint’s “Operation Xibalba” with its dissi//////milar tone from the other entries but like the rest honors Mr. Anderson.Harriet Klausner

An homage to Poul Anderson By Duncan Iowa I 'm a Poul Anderson fan, and this anthology (Professional Science Fiction writers write stories in the manner of the Grand Master) satisfies my missing his wonderful work since his death in 2001. I didn't like everything Anderson produced, but to be treated to Van Rijn, The Time Patrol, and all the sophonts he wrote about was great. Who uses the word sophonts anyway? He did, and so many of his stories carried magic.

Rebecca Stewart, a woman with strange powers, awakens from a drug-induced coma after more than three years to find that things have changed dramatically. She had turned herself over the government agency to protect her family, and now that agency's stance on her level of threat has shifted.

As Rebecca struggles to take back her life, her caretaker, Chris, and agency friend Corrine Casten, help Rebecca piece together what she has lost and what she still has. Her children are alive and safe, cared for by a friend-another former agent. But loyalties and agendas are very different, and the people around her are not who they seem. While Rebecca sorts the past from the present, her dream double, nicknamed Two, watches over her children, learning more about who they are and what they can do. In Rebecca's weakened state, it's unclear which version of her is stronger-the newly awakened physical body or the otherworldly double-or whether she'll be able to keep her explosive tendencies in check.

Memorable and Rugged By Elizabeth N If you are looking for a soulful adventure in one of the most beautiful and intense places on earth, Whitewater: A Thriller is a must read! This novel captures you on page 1 and doesn't stop raging until the very end. The characters are richly imagined and the novel provides, in vivid detail, a physical and emotional ride you won't soon forget. Bill McGinnis takes you down a Class 5 rapid with this thriller, but you are always safe in his hands.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Thrill Ride By Roger Mc Whitewater starts off fast and then picks up the pace. It combines the experience of being in a class five river with a mystery and a love story. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and was sorry when it ended. McGinnis is a first class writer with a deep appreciation for nature, people and rivers.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Whitewater By noel robyn Whitewater is a unique thriller that blends the adventures of movie star heroes and unscrupulous villains into the excitement of white water rafting. Set in one of nature's most beautiful areas - California's Kern River and Sequoia Forest - this exciting novel weaves an exciting story around two protagonists that Ian Fleming would enjoy. Bill McGinnis creates verbal pictures of challenges, risks, love and conquest. And just when you think you've figured things out Bill shuffles the story and you're pleasantly challenged with a new twist. What makes this novel even better for me is that I know Bill McGinnis. I've white water rafted with him and I've sailed with him. He's a remarkable person who knows and cares about the earth, nature and nature's blessings. Bill is a celebrated white water pioneer and his spirit is reflected in Whitewater. If you've ever thrilled to the excitement of white water rafting, this is a book for you. If you haven't, read Whitewater and you will.

Fine genre piece By wiredweird Terra incognita: check.Savable babe: check.Treacherous traveling companion: check.Death cult and/or human sacrifice: check.Inane romantic misunderstandings: check.Everything else in the genre's list: check. This time, "there" is the bizarre and unknown world outside the US. Some poorly-stated conflict divided the world into America (South America included, not that anyone important lives there) and All The Rest. Sabotage and misfortune drive Our Hero et al. outside the ken of civilized people and onto the carnivore-ridden shores of Great Britain, then beyond. Beyond means "where all those guys who aren't Anglo-colored live."The story has passed its 90th birthday, so WWI was fresh in mind for the original reader. Burroughs knew that US isolationism was a dream or nightmare on many minds, as it is when I write this. He played and preyed on that to create the setting for his next pot-boiler.But he did it really well. Also known as "Beyond Thirty" (the thirtieth line of longitude), this historical artifact carries all the distressing prejudices and jingoistic assumptions of its time. A modern reader might like this best if it's read at arm's length. You'll want to taste all the racist and implicitly imperialist culture of the time, but not swallow. We're not perfect these days, but it's nice to know that we're doing a damm lot better.-- wiredweird

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Burroughs adds social commentary to his pulp fiction yarn By Lawrance Bernabo In "The Lost Continent" (a.k.a. "Beyond Thirty") Edgar Rice Burroughs provides an interesting combination of adventure and social commentary. The premise behind this novel is that the United States did not get involved in the "Great War" in Europe but instead followed its isolationist tendencies to such an extreme ("The East for the East...The West for the West") that no one from the United States has gone past 30 degrees or 175 degrees latitude for over 160 years. It is now 2137 and a raging storm has thrown the Pan-American aero-submarine "Coldwater" past the 30 degree mark. The damaged vessel under the command of Lt. Jefferson Turck lands in England and German helmet and Felis tigers. In time, the crew will discover what happened to "The Lost Continent" of the Old World. Of course, since this is a ERB novel we know that there will be a damsel in distress for Lt. Turck to save from the great evils that he finds. One of the main strengths of Burroughs was his ability to create ancient civilizations. "The Lost Continent" is actually atypical for Burroughs who usually plunges his heroes into these strange new worlds a lot quicker than what happens in this novel, so this time around there is much more of a sense of mystery to the proceedings. Still, by the last half of the novel we are definitely on familiar and well-trod ground in terms of a ERB adventure story. Before World War II Burroughs wrote "Beyond the Farthest Star," about a distant planet that had been at war for centuries and where technological advances in warfare threatened to destroy all life, which makes it the other ERB novel to check out if you are interested in looking at another example of his rare attempts at social commentary. I do not think the payoff is worthy of the set up in "The Lost Continent," but it is intriguing to think that the United States completely cutting all ties with Europe was a viable basis for telling a futuristic adventure.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Adventure and a Look at WWI By Randy Stafford After reading Peter Hart's The Great War: A Combat History of the First World War, I thought it might be fun to read a science fiction novel that touches on the war, indeed was written during the war and even before America entered it.Now, I'm not a Burroughs fan. I find him way too dependent on coincidence. And the plot is hardly surprising - Pan-American naval officer accidentally crosses the forbidden Latitude 30 W, meets a barbarian queen in Britain, instantly falls in love with her after rescuing her from some baddies, gets separated from her, and, after some whopping coincidences and a whirlwind tying up of plot threads, is reunited with her.But it is also usually unappreciated how politically topical and even satirical Burroughs could be on occasion. Here, amidst the adventure, are wry bits of satire on what the consequences of the Great War could be for European civilization and white imperialism. And, just maybe, there's also a swipe on the sanctimonious Wilson Administration on the brink of WWI.Burroughs's fans, of course, will want to read this. And those interested in cultural responses to the war might want to take a quick look at this one too.

In pursuing their passions and goals, collectors engage in ingenious ways with artists, galleries, museums, and auction houses. Examining the attraction of collecting, its multifaceted social sphere, and the financial opportunities it seems to offer, this book also addresses how taste is formed and identifies possible radical shifts in the art system today. Here, the motives and behaviour of internationally operating collectors are analysed, disclosing the unwritten rules, active networks, and persistent myths of the rapidly growing field of art collecting. Based on the PhD research of Dutch art historian Marta Gnyp, it provides a wealth of information, theories, and empirical research.

Sound and timely theories relating to the complex field of contemporary art collecting By Ivar Zeile This is a terrific book for anyone involved in contemporary art, from dealers to artists and collectors. It's hard to theorize on the topics that Gnyp lays out, and overall they may not necessarily reflect the state of the art market as a whole, since most of the information relates to the top-level of international contemporary art. But as a dealer myself in a market that is not recognized as having prestige or value outside of itself, I do feel that the information resonates deeply and across the board for the most part. And if nothing else, it's good to have someone with his background and depth in the market to provide useful analysis that uses current examples of text and thoughts from players in the field. The last several years has provided a wealth of written material coming from various perspectives that didn't exist prior, and Gnyp's book is a very useful and purposeful addition to that discourse.

After the great civil war, many of the survivors sought a safe haven in the promised land called Texas.

Some stayed to help a struggling republic grow into the great state it was destined to become.

Some looked to steal and plunder, ever on the outside of the law, while others wanted to simply be left alone. These were the men who would seek solitude in the great mountains of the west. A few stayed in Texas to trap in the Big Bend.

Others wanted to see the high country of the Rocky Mountains. This is the story of one of those men.

Sam Raines would follow the wild and raging Rio Grande from its entrance to the canyons of Big Bend to its start in the San Juan mountains of Colorado territory.

Along the way he would find many challenges.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Enjoyable Read By Redbud Winds of the Rio Grande is a fairly typical Western fiction with a decidedly Christian emphasis that I appreciated. The hero is Sam, the strong silent trapper who just wants to be left alone to enjoy God and explore His creation. He imperceptibly falls in love with an Indian girl, Spotted Fawn, who also enjoys solitude; only now the solitude expands to includes God and each other. This is a sweet and pure love story imagining their strenuous journey through the wildest parts of the Rio Grande valley and canyons together.I liked this book even though it has a few unique word uses, typos, and formatting glitches that shouldn't cost it a whole star, but I couldn't split one. It held my interest enough that I essentially read it through in a single session.

Slave to Fortune is a captivating historical adventure.

Tom Cheke’s world is turned upside-down when he is kidnapped from his home on the Isle of Wight by Barbary corsairs during an audacious night raid.

Sold into slavery in seventeenth-century Algiers, Tom carves out a new and promising life only to have it shattered once more when another twist of fate throws him into the hands of a Scottish knight of the Order of St John and into a turbulent world of ciphers, spies and assassinations.

Tom’s memoir is a remarkable account of how a boy comes of age, grasping life from the setbacks of fortune. It is a tale of friendship and reconciliation, of intrigue and deceit, in which trust is betrayed and deep-rooted beliefs and values are cast into doubt.

In Slave to Fortune, DJ Munro skilfully captures a bygone era of galleons and gunpowder. Pirates and secret agents cross swords with crusading knights as the plot twists from the alleyways of Algiers, through the splendour of Malta and the canals of Venice, to maritime Portsmouth and the rustic charms of the Isle of Wight.

With echoes of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Kidnapped and J. Meade Falkner’s Moonfleet, Slave to Fortune is an uplifting, intelligent adventure. Suitable for all ages from teens upwards, it will spark curiosity and keep readers enthralled.

It harks back to the seventeenth century when the seas around Europe were rife with pirates and when dodgy dealings between high-ranking politicians, Royals, clergy and businessmen were the way of the world. Drawing on a wide range of historical detail, from smuggling on the Isle of Wight to raids from Barbary corsairs, this story takes you on an unforgettable journey with the affable Thomas Cheke. This tale will appeal to a range of readers who enjoy an adventure. It is reminiscent of Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped with the added intrigue of decoding a cipher and visitations of exotic lands.

A lot of research had gone into this book, and the historical narrative felt right. Decoding a cryptic puzzle and an insight into the life and times of the boy from the Isle of Wight as he feel into the hands of pirateers and then slave owners had me wanting to know how it would all come out. A great read.

Since we got this book in the mail my kids (age 7 and 4) ask to spend time every night looking at the pictures and reading about them. The photos are very eye-opening and give the kids, and myself, a new perspective on this world we live in. The quality of the printing and paper is quite nice as well. We have a lot of books around but this one seems to have captured the kids' attention more than any other.

This is a dual language book, the main purpose of which is to be a study aid for the intermediate and advance level students studying the Russian language. From a grammar standpoint, the focus of the book is on verbs of motion, which frequently present a challenge to the students. In each of the twenty chapters there are several verbs of motion used with various prefixes that change their meaning. At the end of each chapter, there is an exercise: fill-in blanks with a missing verb from the text, which allows the readers to check how well they understand and remember the material. The vocabulary of the book is not simple, so for the convenience of the readers each chapter is translated into English. At the end of the book there is a list of the most common verbs of motion and a list of prefixes that are frequently used with them. We strongly believe that the process of learning should be fun. That is why the plot of the book is a mystery story, which captures the attention of the readers. Nobody will be able to put this book aside without having finished reading it first! One wintery Saturday morning in a small town in Siberia, Russia, a girl named Olga gets on a bus headed to a ski resort, where an American acquaintance named Bob is impatiently waiting for her. This meeting is extremely important not only for them, but for all of mankind, for they are both nuclear physicists with key knowledge about a sinister plot currently being developed by a group of scientists. Those scientists are working on deadly rays that might pose a grave danger to the whole world. Only Bob and Olga can foil this dastardly plot! But, unknown to Olga and the other passengers, the bus goes in a totally different direction, taking Olga and the others farther and farther away from their planned destination. When the bus finally stops, the driver orders the passengers to exit, then leaves them stranded in the middle of nowhere, forcing the passengers to fend for themselves! Will Olga and Bob meet? Why did the bus driver abandon the passengers? What will happen to all of them? Can the sinister plot against all of mankind be diverted?

By NY(C) Amazon Customer Verbs of motion are a notoriously difficult topic in Russian grammar. The book does a terrific job of presenting a large number of pre-fixed verbs of motion in context, thus making them both easy to understand and to memorize. I hope that the author writes more books on the Russian language. The book is expensive for its size, but to me well worth it.

By NMCA Charlie Bowles This book begins a series of lessons beyond the basic grammar. This book shows the use of verbs of motion (e.g. GO verbs) in a fun story about a group of people taking a bus ride that goes terribly wrong. The story will be extended in follow-up lesson books. This is for students, with teachers or tutors, who are moving beyond the basic grammar usage of the earliest lessons.

This book By Debbie Lennon I just finished reading Part Two of Whispering Trees and I thoroughly enjoyed it! This book, like the first, was one I just didn't want to put down. Captivating from beginning to end. I'm excited to see what happens in the third installment. What will become of these soldiers who became friends in the midst of war and turmoil? Will they meet again? Will they make it back home safely to their homes, worlds apart from each other? Can't wait to read Part Three!!

I am looking forward to the third installment.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Not what I expected By Athena The miniature sword is cute but the book is not what I expected. Maybe I misunderstood the description but I thought it was a story about the Knights Watch not just information about the movie characters.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Very small book 3 inch in height By DP I read other reviews and product description. My mistake was misunderstanding that when people mentioned product being small I thought they were talking about the sword. So to be very clear the description of size is not only sword but book as well both are small and about 3" in height.
