By Zaabaa Since I don't seem to get much reading done anywhere else, I'm always looking for exciting new additions to the home office, which will supply joy to people other than myself. I recently came across this novel, fun book, and have been quite pleased by its contents. While the title may suggest crass humor, and trust me every page is illustrated in the worst (or best) of ways, such as elephants made up entirely of poop, this book is actually quite informative. It makes sense that people would want to shy away from the offal subject of deification, but, when you think about it, people dedicate their lives to the stuff, and it makes society livable. This book traces how poop moves through a city, how animals poop and what happens to it (i.e. in SeaWorld), who wants to buy poop, and some of the many uses of the busy brown. The illustrations, every page remember, keep things lightbrownhearted and fun, while the text provides much interesting information. Perfect for poopers of any age!

Seriously, this book was way more than I thought it would be when my cousin gave it to me for Christmas. It truly knocked my socks off. Not only were the drawings a hilarious delight (and a big hit as my main coffee table book to have out at parties), but when you sit down and read it, it is actually a very thorough, descriptive look at poop throughout the ages--who knew so much about something we do every day but never stop and think about! Not me, that's for sure. I thought the historical context provided when looking at poop throughout the ages was entertaining, fun, and incredibly enlightening. That is something I honestly have never thought about and I love that I now have all these fascinating factoids stored away. 40 BILLION gallons of sewage still spills into Manhattan's surrounding rivers and bays every year?!?! That's insanity! Not maybe the most charming fun fact, but I think the right person at the right party will definitely pick up what you're laying down. It's fascinating conversation and fascinating knowledge to have and even just keep to yourself. And not only that, it was a very accessible read. I think that was my favorite part. It didn't take itself too seriously. It allowed us all to enjoy the read, have a good laugh, and also (and probably most importantly) have a good learn.

By JQ This book is interesting because it goes farther than just providing some shocking poop numbers. The book is really more of a historical narrative of our sanitary systems through various cultures and situations. This historical narrative is made concurrently to the list of illness and diseases that are a result of unsanitary conditions and how we have developed ways to combat the bacteria that exists in poo. However, one of the most important takeaway is how we have decided to treat poo and consequently water at sanitary plants currently. The author warns about the future of our sanitary plants because they are not as effective as they could be and that we are continuing to figure out how to handle poo.
