Review ''The history of guitars has been told many times before, but a new book takes a fresh approach. In Boutique Acoustics, writer Michael John Simmons chronicles the story of the American steel-string guitar and how today's premier crafters of acoustics are producing some of the best guitars since the 'golden age' of Gibson, the Larson Brothers, and Martin....Boutique Acoustics is geared toward that guitarist. More than just recapping history, the book also includes a reference section, detailing some of the options available to players, with guides to body shape, tone woods, and construction, and a selected list of contemporary boutique-guitar makers.'' --Acoustic Guitar Magazine

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. there are much better choices out there By B. C. Robbins Unfortunately I bought this based on the title alone, expecting it to be a book about the burgeoning custom guitar industry and the art of small luthier shops. If I had read the description, I would have seen it's really dealing more with guitars of major companies over the past century plus. Very little in here about what is going on in the custom world today and the artisan luthiers that are redefining the art of making guitars. For what this book covers, there are much better choices out there.
