David Elliot, ex-pat, ex-paramedic living in Lima Peru with his family is caught up in a plot against the government of Peru. It is led by a team of ex-military United States and Peruvian members who are trying to make the world a better place, as they see it. You see into David's mind as he is dragged along throughout the city of Lima. His depression, his wants, his needs, his anxiety. He is basically crutch to the team's leader and medic to the rest. As they move they are seen and David is put on the list of suspects and now also becomes sought by the police of Peru.
His loyalty is called into question; he too is ex-military and feels a kinship towards the members of the team. He wonders whether if given the chance if he will be able to escape or if when needed will he pick up a gun?
author_bio: Robert Peters lives in the Pacific Northwest, having returned to the States after living in Peru for several years. He has traveled and lived extensively around the world and within the US. Robert attended Art College in Seattle and has been published as a photojournalist. He served in the US Army, worked as a paramedic for fifteen years, attended two years of medical school in England and served as lead medic with an international search and rescue team to Peru. He has been writing for much of his life and has also written two compilations of short stories.

Peters takes us on a griping five day journey throughout Lima, Peru's cityscape. David Elliot, a former paramedic ex-pat husband and father is caught up with a group of anti-government fighters when an act of instinct that puts him into the middle of the fighting. Elliot dodges Peruvian government forces and just barely holds on to his role as human crutch to the group’s leader, all the while pressed into service as the group’s medic. Constantly in motion Elliot is both captive and tool to the group of fighters. He tends to the group while keeping one eye on possible roads of escape. As the days pass Elliot ponders who his allegiance rests with.Peters has penned a gripping and enjoyable read that I wasn't able to put down until I got through the final chapter. Peters keeps the action moving as Elliot navigates the various districts and classes of Lima’s complex metropolis. The whole time it felt like I was looking at the world and situation through Elliot’s eyes. Seeing what pushed him and angered him as he was taken forcibly around Lima’s metropolis, I was entranced. Elliot is both a brave, efficient medic and very human husband and father. When he sees his face plastered on the cover of the days newspaper as an accomplice to the group Elliot realizes he has a choice to make – take his chance to escape back to his life or take up arms and join the groupI came away from the book thinking I’d taken a very intense vacation to Peru. It was a great read that kept me going throughout!I give it a strong 4.5 out of 5 and highly recommend it.
