By Nippy The Cat Until a real, thoroughly researched bio of Pete is released, this entertaining piece of hack work will suffice. Be prepared for such howlers as Humphrey Bogart attending the Los Angles premiere of Lawrence of Arabia in December of 1962!

Instead of research, we are given rumor, innuendo and unsubstantiated claims. There are no annotations or notes and much of the information is based on gossip or enhanced drunken stories told, no doubt over a pint of bitters. It makes the reporting of the National Enquirer look scholarly.The "producer" of the book wrote at the beginning of the book explaining how they got their quotations of conversations long ago. He stopped short of saying they just made them up.Not only are their many, many unsubstantiated allegations and stories in this book with no sources, but at least one of the stories on Alec Guinness has already been thoroughly disproven and yet, Darwin Porter is marching it out again, well aware that Guinness is dead so he won't be suing!For people wanting read to an actual biography on Peter O'Toole which covers the major events of his life and work, you'll have to pass this book up, because you don't get the facts and interesting parts of his life. I took this book out of a local library hoping that the title was just to sell books, it isn't, because the book focuses pretty much totally on Peter O'Toole's predilection for sex and the freaks and perverts he encounters along the way.If gossipy trash is what you're after then knock yourself out and read this load of absolute rubbish.

Essentially this is the literary (and I use that term VERY loosely) equivalent of a newspaper tabloid. Lots of "shocking" and lurid details -- with no attempt at attribution or even moderation. After the first thousand times you hear about O'Toole's drunken binges or sexual exploits, the entire story begins to degenerate down to the level of the kind of stories you can hear bandied about in a middle school locker room. Factual errors galore; there's a lovely description of views of the Swiss Alps as O'Toole drives through the Brenner Pass. Only the Brenner Pass connects Austria with Italy - Switzerland is further west.Not recommended for anyone with an emotional age greater than eight years old.
