About the Author
Rev. Dr. Brenda K. Buckwell, Obl. OSB, seeks to integrate Christian spiritual formation into everyday life so that others can experience an expanded sense of God. She is adjunct faculty at Ashland Theological Seminary, a spiritual director for lay and clergy persons, a national retreat leader and cofounder and director of learning and formation for Hearts on Fire: The Fellowship of United Methodist Spiritual Directors and Retreat Leaders, as well as an oblate in the Methodist-Benedictine St. Brigid of Kildare Monastery. She has taught at United Theological Seminary and the Rueben Job Institute for Spiritual Formation through Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.

Reviews from participants in my church By Amazon Customer I was please and delighted that Dr. Buckwell was preparing us for the celebration of Christ's birth, within our own soul.I found that the first meditation (icon gazing) paired with the mandala drawing an outstanding opportunity for me to heal a very old emotional wound from my early childhood. Dr. Buckwell states. "the most mystifying work of God begins as God opens space with the heart for Divine love to gently shape the interior landscape of your heart. Small group participantA facilitator writes: The Advent of God's Word is a rich resource for private reflection as well as small groups. The author, Brenda Buckwell, invites us to participate in prayer as an experience with the Other, the Divine Whisperer. The themes of Advent: wonder and waiting, hope and fulfillment emerge from a relationship that is passionate and playful and ultimately rewarding.Another small group participant writes Dr. Buckwell has an amazing facility with words, and her book has helped me to dig much deeper within. She brings long ago scriptural passages into the present and imbues them with new meanings that resonate with my heart. She also offers ideas and words to inspire methods such as audio divina, drawing simple mandalas and/or journaling to connect with God.
