Best plot twist: We will learn that Kiko is someone we already know-- he was a walk-on character in Karen's earlier novel, The Shaman Priest. Hopkins does a masterful job of creating a despicable villain. This guy has no troublesome likability-- he just needs to be shot, the sooner the better. And who better to go gunning for him than our hero and ultimate family man, Kiko? The author pulls off a satisfying ending even with a new horror blossoming into an unexpected twist at the end. I didn't feel hung out to dry, because this book is screaming for a sequel, and I am counting on my man Kiko to rub the monster's nose in it soon enough. If you can't help feeling a thrill of delight reading about underground hero hackers such as "Anonymous" or even "MOD" (Masters of Deception), you will be looking forward with glee to the answer Hopkins will come up with to the new peril she introduces in Down the Colorado. By the way, you will love the irony of the title when you get to the section entitled May 26, Monday, Memorial Day, The Ciphers. (Please tell us there really will be a sequel!)

The twists and turns in the book kept me engaged in where the story was going and how Kiko and Maggie might get ahead of action. It was really a fun story overall.

Exciting Crime Thriller By Kelly Pinella As an American family, Kiko and Maggie Perez take their three young children on a 'memory lane vacation' in the area of Glen Canyon Dam. They soon find out about a woman, who recently drowned. Since Kiko remembers seeing the woman who drowned, he provides helpful information to the sheriff and soon discovers more information about a suspect who might be responsible, a college student in the field of engineering. The story flips back and forth between Kiko and the engineer suspect, a member of a radical environmentalist group called Cipher. The suspect's name is Jag. In addition to the Cipher group, he is also part of a small terrorist group. Jag begins to take advantage of a small American group of fanatics to carry out his evil plan, in the name of his religion. The story is believable and relevant to the on-going issue of terrorists who hide behind the name of religion. There are a few sex scenes. There were many quotation marks that were missing and several missing paragraph indentations, but it didn't stop me from reading the story.Karen Hopkins begins the story where the reader sees the protagonist separately from the antagonist, alternating between chapters. I began to wonder if the two characters would ever cross paths in the story. She did a great job with rising tension, gradually building throughout. Her description of the geography surrounding Bryce Canyon and Lake Havasu sounds like she has been there herself. She provides plenty of detail to imagine the scene how she envisions it. Karen Hopkins put together a crime thriller. She did a great job describing the characters and scenes. The ending brought closure to the immediate situation, yet it left the possibility for a sequel. I look forward to reading another Kiko Perez mystery.
