BEYOND THE PAST is the second installment in Carly Fall’s contemporary, adult Supernatural Renegades paranormal romance series focusing on a team of former marines whose last secret mission to Guatemala left each member of the platoon with a supernatural power. This is former marine Lucas Tate and realtor Gabby Tate’s storyline. Although this is the second book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty.The focus of the series follows each Marine as he returns home to a different world. The military demands complete silence and secrecy from each of the returnees otherwise termination –from life-is next on the horizon. Life will become too difficult and lonely when the government orders complete compliance resulting in emotional and physical stress for each of our survivors. While Lucas roams the streets of Reno –homeless and hungry-his wife of twelve years finds herself the victim of a brutal attack and kidnapping.The relationship between Gabby and Lucas has already been established but twelve years of marriage has been destroyed by the dark and dangerous secrets Lucas is unable to reveal. With the increasing threats escalading against his wife and his life, Lucas decides Gabby will be safer if he disappeared for good. The government’s secret ‘Group Nine’ continue to hunt for each of the missing marines and in this there are many more stories to tell.BEYOND THE PAST is a storyline of suspense, action, second chances and love. A government experiment that went horribly wrong has resulted in changed lives and damaged DNA yet we are no closer to uncovering the who and the why. I think a little more background information is needed.Carly Fall writes from the heart: her heroes are human, vulnerable and real, and their stories are heartbreaking and sad. The little bit of supernatural storyline blends easily with the contemporary world of romance and love. Our heroes will get their happily ever after but it won’t always be an easy path they follow.

This book is part of a series where a military group is exposed to an explosion leaving the guys with supernatural abilities. In this book the ability Lucas comes out of the mission with is the ability to see death before it happens. Being watched and under death threats if he tells anyone what has happened. Afraid his ability and the monitoring he is forced under will one day endanger his wife Gabby, He makes the heartbreaking decision to leave her, go off grid and become a homeless wanderer thinking if she doesn't know she is safer. He is approached to join a mysterious protection organization run by a mysterious Joe Smith, so far the team members brought together are Garrett who can turn into a Bear, Brody who is a modern Poseidon and the youngest James who was assassinated for not staying hidden as ordered and attempted to find the team members. While Lucas is recovering and regaining his strength he asked Joe for one condition to his employment, watch over Gabby. A mystery agent for the government since it can't find Lucas thinks that by torture they can get the location from Gabby. The couple is reunited by Smith, but there are many wounds that need to be addressed for this couple to look past their love and find if they can have a future. There are some tasteful sex scenes, and drama a plenty. The twists, turns, heart break and looking forward. I have given enough spoilers but I highly recommend this book and this author, because she has never written anything disappointing. She can make you feel emerged in her stories without effort. I can't wait for her next book, she is that good a writer.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Suspense, action, drama - this has it all! By Zee Monodee This was my first read by Carly Fall, and she didn't disappoint! And despite this story being the second in the Supernatural Renegade series, I did not feel lost for one single moment - aka this is a story that stands alone very well.I've always loved tales of second chances, and this one was a boon because it was a third chance one, even. Lucas had already left Gabby once before, and they'd gotten back together again. And now, he leaves her once more, despite promising to never do that again.Carly Fall weaves in true emotional drama and conflict in this tale, showing you the very inside of Lucas' mind as he convinces himself it is best he leaves Gabby behind - you can totally understand his point of view, though it's a hard thing to swallow because you just want this couple together because that's where they belong. I might've been tempted to bash Gabby over the head with a frying pan a few times as she goes about her life with Lucas missing, and also once she finds him again, but again, Ms. Fall writes with a dexterity that totally makes this roller coaster ride of emotions an integral part of the experience of reading this book.I'm eager to check out the first and the upcoming third books in this series now!
