It is not a religion of terrorists, it is a religion of peace, and Reem desperately tries to impart these teaching to her children despite the devastation raging around them. It may help you to understand how people are recruited into these fanatical plots, how friends become enemies and how children with no education can ruin an entire generation.This was not an easy book to read. I found myself detaching from pieces of it so I wouldn't get sucked under by the grief and helplessness of it, but its an important book because it puts a human face on war.

They will see the misery these people undergo in their own country by their own people. This novel takes place after the capture of Saddam Hussein in Iraq. Very raw and very sad. It also explains the radical Islamist mindset and where it originated.

Since the author spent time in Iraq and witnessed what was happening in the lives of the people, he is able to give an accurate picture through Reem and her family of what he saw the people face everyday. The thought will stay with me that many people in the world would trade their best day for our worst day.
