About the Author Born in California Karen Hopkins moved to Chile at the age of seventeen. After completing a university degree she worked for Pan American Airlines based in London, and traveled through Europe, the Middle East, India, and South America. Later she and her husband taught school in a variety of interesting places including a private school in Panama, Ticaboo, Utah on Lake Powell, the Navajo Nation, an inner city high school and a community college on the border. Ms. Hopkins traveled extensively with her family in Mexico and Central America, camping in the remote highlands of Chiapas and Guatemala for many summers. She currently lives and writes at home in Arizona.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Ernestine's Side of the Story By Kathy Green I am a fan; I have loved all the Karen Hopkins titles and I liked this one the best. Hopkins writes about Native Americans from direct experience, and blends tribal lore with modern spiritual metaphor in a way that creates a resonant and even logical magic for me. There are as many ways to process the notions of good and evil, justice and revenge, as there are human events multiplied by the people who experience them. I believe one reason we read and write is to find new ways of thinking about these imponderables. Frankly, Ernestine teaches the reader one way to work through and recover from the trauma of a violent rape that nearly killed her. This tale also celebrates the modest heroes who are always part of an important achievement. Ernestine's quiet victory was deeply satisfying to me.
