Faithful Retelling of the Christmas in Poetic Form By Ray F Van Neste You might be tempted to overlook this book as just one more Christmas story with simply a cute story & very little biblical content. But, that would be a real mistake! I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The author retells the Christmas story following very closely the accounts from Matthew and Luke in poetic form. I was impressed by how careful she was to follow the biblical text, and the nice poetry made the reading even more fun and engaging.Part of the Christmas tradition in our house is retelling the Christmas story on Christmas morning. The form of the retelling has grown with our children, often involving them acting out, with little figurines, what I read. If we had had this little book when our kids were smaller, I would have used this for our reading. It is that good.So, as you prepare for Christmas this year, this is a fun, readable book- one which your children might continue to read for themselves, as mine have. Many books on the miserable situation of trying to find a place to sleep for the night, the poor conditions of the stable in which Mary gave birth, and the meager supplies available to the baby Jesus. In contrast, the book Christmas Time by Sue M. Barksdale has a happy, upbeat look and rhythm. Although we received this book to review in October, when we would normally be looking at Halloween stories, my son was immediately drawn to the bright illustrations. The swirling fonts and bouncy beat make the book stand out from other Christmas books for children. There were a few too many verses, which made my son lose interest midway through the first reading. After the second time, though, he was willing to sit through the entire book. I’m grateful that I had the chance to read Christmas Time. It was a fun way to talk with my kids about the birth of our Savior. I received this book to review. Opinions shared are mine.

Very impressed with the author and artist who brought this story to life before our very eyes page after page. My 2 year old flipped through every single page asking 'Who's that!?' and 'What's that?'. I can't think of a better way to introduce him to the true meaning of Christmas than this book. Thank you for it and God Bless you all!
