As the single human deemed fit to map anomalies in space, Jack Haagenz works for the galactic government surveying starfields and galactic real-estate. After a long vacation, he returns to the office and is charged with performing a quick investigation of a new black hole that's forming, calculate its size, scope, and potential dangers, then report back to his superiors on whether or not it's a threat to the local planets (and if they'll have to re-route the hyperspace lanes around it). Along the way he's flushed through a wormhole, his ship is hijacked, he's captured by and escapes from a primitive race of warrior-women, and ultimately learns the truth behind where the black hole came from and why it's there...and the truth could very well kill him, and two entire planets of innocent bystanders.

Highly Recommend By AnonamoyslyBadAtSpelling I am very impressed by this book.Humor seems to flow so effortlessly to the author that it appears very naturally, and to be very well placed. It is clever, witty, and occasionally slap sticky. The comical prowess of the author is very diverse and sure to elicit laughter from any audience. Although, the humor does not distract or demean the narrative in any way. While remaining quite humorous it also very interesting from a Scientific stand-point.The world is very cleverly and interestingly crafted from a multitude of perspectives. The characters are interesting, like-able, and funny.Writing is superb.Great lore.Lots of dicks.I would definitely recommend this book.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Inventive, sarcastic, and entertaining! By Avid Reader A great read with wonderfully inventive technology, rich environments, and entertaining dialogue that stick with you. Jack Haagenz is sarcastic and ready for whatever life (or the bad guy) throws his way. There always seems to be something going on behind the scenes so you're never quite sure what's going to happen next. Brian Sheridan keeps the reader engaged and looking for more with each turn of the page. Looking forward to the next book!
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Loved it! By Kathleen Newman This book hooked me in the first couple pages. Jack Haagenz's self-deprecating humor and sarcasm had me smiling the whole time (and sometimes giggling uncontrollably). I love that he's such a normal guy who appreciates the simple things in life, wherever his job takes him...wonderful character! Can't wait for another book to see what misadventures are in store for him!
